James Brown Funeral on CNN

Is anyone been watching this. It is amazing. I want it on DVD. They even put the cape on his casket. Unreal.

I guess this is the appetizer for the Ford funeral coverage.

Cape on casket. Nice.

Okay.. I'm gonna say something that might not go over well...
This guy was nothing more an a thug. He beat women. He treated them like crap. He spent time in prison. Why all the gushing?
Why is it that we glamorize thugs like this? Why is CNN giving this more than 10 min of coverage?
I didn't wish the guy dead... but give me a break. He beat women!!

Perhaps it's that pesky beloved award-winning musical legend thing...don't know how anyone could ever want to celebrate that....a man dies and we should focus only on the negatives...

Give ME a fucking break.

I'm more disturbed by the gushing reception for the fleeing child molester. I guess they had the good sense to turn away O.J. at the door. It was great entertainment watching it however.

I agree his personal life was not the best and discussing his personal life was not what was intended in this thread. I merely was asking if anyone saw the funeral that was televised and that musically it was incredible.

Well, people are filled with dualities. This is something we should be accustomed to. If not, those who lose a famous person they admire will no doubt get a crash course in it sooner or later.

You're right, James Brown was no saint - none of us are (even saints!), but the funeral celebrated the contributions he made musically and socially, which were considerable. I don't think anyone would like it if their faults were dwelled upon during their funeral - even if all they achieved in life was threadcapping.
