As for the conjecture about a big death next episode
Spoiler:
from the preview, it looks like both Dee and Anders will live on. It's pretty easy to tell that Starbuck is hugging Anders in Galactica's hanger despite the preview's attempt to make it appear she's embracing Apollo.

Oops, you're right. Forgot about that.

Galactica was just minutes from being destroyed in Exodus, Part II. Other than "so they would have some left to use in The Eye of Jupiter", what were they saving them . . . . ah screw it.

I seem to recall that when Baltar asked for a nuke, it was a big deal because the Galactica only had a few (three, if memory serves). And one of those was used on the Basestar in Kobol's Last Gleaming Part II.

They could have resupplied with nukes when they hooked up with Pegasus.

I just assumed in the "Kobol Galaxy" nuclear weapons are rare and priceless. My reasoning for this is based on the fact that the Cylons hardly ever use them.

You'd think every Cylon attack would include about 50 nukes being used against Galactica. To my recollection I can only remember one Cylon nuke hitting it's target and that was in the mini-series, I think.

i seem to remember nukes being fired ship to ship between galactica and a basestar at some point during season 2 though I could eaily be mistaken.

I think I'm starting to get annoyed by the show. In the opening credits, it says the Cylons have a plan, but I, for one, am having a hard time seeing any. Destroy humanity? Nope - they let the New Capricans live. Colonize Earth? Why - what is there to gain? Aren't the original 12 colonies enough, since radiation doesn't seem to bother them? And they sure don't seem like they have a master plan when it shows them discussing options on the basestar.

Any ideas to set my mind at ease?

Excuse my religious overtone for a minute: "God has a plan, we just don't understand it" was something I always had drilled into my head growing up.

The Cylons "ultimate" goal is to destroy all of humanity. If that means letting the New Capricans live in the short-term, so be it. A truce to get the Eye of Jupiter? Again, the ultimate goal is in mind. I figure once they get to Earth and know they have a handle on what exactly "all of humanity" is, they can start with the wiping out part.

Or maybe I just don't have any idea what I'm talking about.

Makes sense to me, Chew. If they believe there's a 13th colony then they want to make sure they get there without just wandering the cosmos forever until they happen upon it like Cavil would rather do. Their goal seems to be getting to Earth to inhabit it themselves as a promised land or paradise. If there are Humans there as well, they'll deal with that when they get there. Getting rid of Galactica and the rest of the fleet seems a short-sighted goal at this point.

I just got around to watching this tonight and there was one thing that bothered me. Where did the fleet jump to? Wasn't the previous ep. all about how they had to lead each ship with a raptor to get throught the radiation cloud? Did they just jump to the other side of the planet and hope the Cylons don't look there?

Other than the few minor quibbles I thought it was a pretty good episode.

I wonder how they'll handle the Athena - Roslin meeting request. I liked the way they wrote the scene where Adama asked Roslin about the baby. It shows that he does care about his officers, political subterfuge aside.

I thought that the planet was on the other side of the star cluster, and once they were through they could just jump forward again... I think the reason that they had to go THROUGH the thing the first time was that it was so large, they'd starve to death by the time they finished jumping AROUND it.

This was the most interesting part for me. All season I kept thinking, "man this sucks. The relationship between Athena and Adama has grown so much, it's going to be awful when she realizes he's been lying to her all this time."

Turns out he WASN'T lying, it was LAURA that was lying to HIM. That blew me away, and I was actually kind of comforted that he hadn't betrayed Sharon.

I'm pretty sure you're exactly right, and I'm sure this is going to seem harsh, but how are so many other people not getting this? I've seen this discussed on a couple other boards, and so many people do not grasp the scale of the stellar phenomena that was blocking the way. Thus, through it was the only option. Now that there through, there's more "regular" space with planets n' stuff.

Same here, this is really going to put a dent in the relationship, hell maybe even another military coup could be in order?

Something else I read on the SciFi channel's board, if you go back to the episode where we see Starbuck's apartment, there's a bit of artwork that looks awful familiar. Mr Moore's golden child may be even more important than we thought.

I can see how it's kinda confusing. The podcasts help explain certain things, and Moore repeatedly states that he doesn't want to spoon feed the audience, and I think I'd rather be slightly behind the show than always knowing what's coming up next. I think since we only saw the cluster from inside, getting an idea of scale was next to impossible. I'd say that maybe they should have had an establishing shot, but how do you SHOW something that large? I think it's best left up to the imagination... kinda like a Cylon Basestar.

Funny thing was Anders survived on Caprica for months, and in the resistance on New Caprica, yet a pilot Apollo needs to order him around in a ground mission...yet everytime they have to plan a FLIGHT mission, they hand the heavy lifting off to Starbuck or Kat?!?!?!?!?

As for Anders, I think he as much as admitted he had only planned strike and fade maneuvers while on Caprica, and probably New Caprica also. I imagine anyone who watches enough TV could handle at least one of those before blowing themselves up. For an organized defense he needed the guidance of an officer.

That said, as for Starbuck or Kat planning the missions instead of Apollo, Lee Adama's unofficial backstory is that he is only a reservist, and has been promoted over Starbuck because he has a cooler head, despite her being a "better" pilot than he is. Part of leadership is knowing when to take advantage of the talents of those under your command.

Wheres this unofficial backstory?

As I recall, in the episode with the attack on the Cylon trillium mine, when Starbuck was called into the planning room to assist with the mission, Tigh made a cooment that she's never been to a military accadamy, which implied that Lee had. Plus in the Pilot, lee sure looked like a carear officer.

From the Battlestar Wiki
The subtitles under Apollo's name in "Final Cut" list him as "CFR". In the podcast, RDM explained that this stood for Colonial Fleet Reserves; likely analogous to the U.S. Army Reserve, the U.S. Air Force Reserve and such of the United States military; and Apollo is in that because, as stated above, he wasn't sure what he was doing with his life and wasn't sure if he was going to pursue a full career in the Fleet.

I know I'm not the only one who's ever seen a link between BSG and Robotech, so I though somebody might get a kick out of this. I think it's the first season version of the theme, so it's a little different, but still neat.

Check out the Dec 21st post of this guy's blog for the video, I have no idea how to the Youtube thing or I'd just put it here myself
