I think this Jacob/list thing is a red herring. My best guess is that Jacob is just their man on the outside and the list is probably a version of the flight manifest that didn't include Jack because of the way he had to talk his way onto the plane. I think they definitely want us to buy that either Jack isn't supposed to be alive on the island or that he wasn't supposed to be one of the people abducted by Michael. I'm just not buying it.

the jack/kate/sawyer storyline is stupid and unbelievable.

kates flashbacks suck, her story is getting more and more convoluted. Its ridiculous.

This show is slowly turning into a very bad soap opera.

'The Others' are a joke. Who are they and what are they doing?? who cares.

It's clear that with the ratings plummeting that I am not alone with that sentiment.

Do you continue to watch the show just to complain about it?

Again, a misconception. Ratings for Season 2 averaged 14.2m (it started incredibly strong, and dropped considerably each week, especially once the on-again-off-again hiatuses started), the ratings so far for Season 3 are at 16.4m.

I'm enjoying the show a great deal this season, the flashbacks seem to just be spinning their wheels and reveal little we didn't already know about the characters, but it oddly isn't that distracting to me.

might be a stretch, but she could hve been crying because she relieved that she wasn't prego. Like the FBI guy said, she knows she can never settle down. If she's pregnant, that would have made it nearly impossible for her to leave.

Do we have to spoilerize theories or speculations? If so, sorry I didnt...
if this is hte case, why would she have sex with Sawyer? I don't get that part.

And can someone explain why the guy wants to kill sawyer so bad?

Instead of screaming "I can't, I can't" over and over, couldn't Kate have just said to Jack that they're on a separate, smaller island? It's not like it's a hard concept to explain, and it would've taken just as long as saying "I can't" over and over...

I just get frustrated at aritficial stupidity that conveniently comes and goes just in order to drive the plot.

Actually, it would've been a much better ending if Kate had said "We can't run - we're on a different island", and then cut to a close up of the resulting surprised/startled look on Jack's face, and end.

"Eye Patch Man" is actor Andrew Divoff (Wishmaster, Another 48 Hours). I saw his name in the guest credits last week and recognized him in his split second of screen time. I'm thinking he may be Jacob.

Am I the only one that got the impression that Alex was Ben's daughter? Why else was he so worried about whether she asked about him? Do we know that Russo was pregnant before she crashed on the island?

What, is Jayne hosting America's Funniest Home Videos this week?
At least they are getting work.

I coincidentally watched Slither with Nathan Fillion before I watched Lost last night. I didnt know he was going to be in that episode.

Why dont any of the characters ask the questions that we would ask, like where are we? What is that thing? Instead everyone has to stay silent so that they can drag the plot out.

It's either Patch Adams or Patch from Days of our Lives ... I'm not sure yet ...
Well, you know he is back on Days of our lives don't you?

Whatever the reason was, Jack looked at the screen, got the gun, and came back and stared at it again..then Ben came in and said something like he was surprised too, he thought it would have been Jack. And then boom, he changed his mind, right then and there, and scheduled surgery for the next morning. So it had an impact on him.

That would have been a better ending had the audience not known that there was a second island. Since the viewer has known about 2 islands for several weeks, the shock value (at least for us) would have been zero. Leaving on a cliffhanger that the audience already knows would have been anticlimactic to say the least.

Plus some female-sounding voice let Jack know to try opening his door, and that's when he went wandering around to the areas that the others were leading him to to see the monitors. Was it luck that one of the monitors were showing Sawyer and Kate post-coital at the time, or was it a playback loop for Jack's benefit?

Prior to watching this episode, I had thought that EW had indicated prior to the season that something mind-blowing was going to happen in this episode and was very disappointed that nothing that amazing had actually happened; but now checking their website, that's not exactly what they said:
Spoiler:
Three new cast members will also crash the island: ER's Elizabeth Mitchell (''We'll confirm that she's sexy, but we can't confirm whether she's an Other,'' says Cuse), Related's Kiele Sanchez, and Love Actually's Rodrigo Santoro (who's been dubbed the Brazilian Tom Cruise but, according to Cuse, ''will not be jumping on any couches''). And we'll learn what transpired after Desmond turned the hatch's fail-safe key and lit up the firmament. ''On a scale of 1 to 10,'' hints Lindelof of that event's importance, ''it's a 10.'' But there may even be an 11: ''Something's going to happen in the middle of season 3 that blows the doors off the show again,'' he says. ''You'll look at [the Penny scene] again and say, 'Sixty percent of what I thought I saw was dead-on, but the other 40 percent I never even considered!''' Consider us, as usual, 100 percent confused and intrigued.

Actually nothing in that quote states that they were talking about this episode. I'm reading half way through the season, and this episode is what about 1/4th...maybe i'm reading it wrong.

I liked this episode. I don't care if they solve everything yet. It was compelling and tense...that's all i need.

Exactly, Ben gave his word to get him off "this" Island... I noticed that right away also.

I don't think she said "I can't" in reference to the dual islands (though that is certainly another reason), but rather for the theme that they drove home with the flashbacks and her history: that she doesn't want to run any longer.

Here it is, in all it's cut-and-paste glory:

Spoiler:
A theory:

Something happened on the beach with Ben and Kate. When Jack mentioned it, she looked away. And Kate's screaming "I can't" when Jack tells her to run, I believe that has less to do with the fact that they're on the wrong island than something else. I mean, they're about to kill Sawyer, got a gun to HER head too, and she doesn't want to run. Why?!

Cause I think Ben told her to pretend she loves Sawyer...even though she really loves Jack. Ben planned this to fuck with the guys. Ben played Jack. He played Sawyer. All part of trying to get Jack to do the surgery.

So Kate doesn't want to run because of Jack...cause when Alex said "don't believe them, they're going to kill your boyfriend"...what's not to believe? They were pretty obvious that Pickett wanted to kill Sawyer. So that's not what Alex was talking about. She was talking about Jack...who Alex knows is Kate's true love. And Alex knows they're lying and going to kill him...he wasn't on the list. And that's what Kate knows too, and that's why she doesn't want to run.
Spoiler:

I still agree with this theory. As I said after the first episode of this season, the Kate and Ben breakfast scene, and Kate's wrists afterwards, were too odd to be thrown in just to be ignored. I still think they are going to flashback and show us what happened just like they did with the losties going into the hatch during the first few eps of season 2.

But by then, who's going to care about it? These long 3-month breaks between the revelations will suck out their potency.

He doesn't necessarily have to be her biological father. Remember that Alex was kidnapped as a baby, and brought up by the Others.

.... I'm still waiting for an answer or two from the pilot episode. I can see the writers letting us wait a few months to revisit this plot point.
