Yeah, that's where I was getting that. In addition, we have reason to believe that they have a facility that is at least partially underwater.

Maybe it's more like there was a cloaking device hiding the island from sight that is no longer functional because (one of the) facilities generating the magnetic field is no more.

Ah, that's another question. What was Mr. Friendly saying to Ben when Sawyer was coming to? Something about the sky going purple and not being able to get something working since then. Wife was blabbing to the 2-year-old at the time and I didn't want to rewind it and look like an anal jerk because I knew I had you guys anyway...

Joeboo835 10-25-06 11:31 PM

1) He said that the island was twice the size of Alcatraz (spelling?). That island isnt' very big, so twice that isn't very big at all. They could have seen this 2nd island and didnt' think much of it due to size.

2) I think he's keeping sawyer alive to blackmail Jack into something (i.e. healing the tumored spine).

Thats a kick ass name for a band "Healing the Tumored Spine".

edstein 10-25-06 11:36 PM

Did anyone else here Henry say towards the beginning that "the sub was back"? Or did I here that wrong?

Joeboo835 10-25-06 11:37 PM

I heard that too, course i just thought it was code for that group.

Yes. 6 posts ago ;)

I thought I misheard that, but you and Jimmy seem to have confirmed it, or we're all just a special form of crazy.

GoldenJCJ 10-25-06 11:38 PM

^^ I heard something to that affect too.

Would that be blackmailing Kate into doing something to blackmail Jack into doing it? I'm not sure Sawyer by himself would be enough to blackmail Jack into anything.

I didn't get any more than you did, but it could very well be that there was an electromagnetic pulse that disabled their more sophisticated equipment (like perhaps the crash cart?) instead of some sort of cloak.

1. The seperate island thing does make sense considering the way The Others have been using boats and the interest they have in keeping the survivors from having boats.

2. Juliet is a "fertility doctor." Was she involved with Claire while The Others were holding her captive?

3. Ben mentions that The Others aren't killers. And so far we've seen them use non-lethal ways to subdue their captives like stun-guns and gunshots that only nick or wound. But we DID see Goodwin kill Nathan and Ethan claimed to have killed Steve. (Though when given the chance, he didn't actually kill Charlie.)

4. It still looks like The Others might be super-strong. Ben gave Sawyer quite a pounding with the truncheon; though I think Sawyer still should've been able to overpower Ben if he wanted to. Unless he was weak from being undernourished. Sawyer's a pretty big guy; probably a lot stronger than Ben, too. Also looked like Ben left himself wide open on a couple of those blows.

Ranger 10-25-06 11:57 PM

can't really remember but i thought danielle was the one who took claire?

My thoughts on the 2-island controversy:

1. They're all currently on the same island and Ben was showing Sawyer the island that contains The Others' little suburb to keep him in line.

2. The supposedly underwater Hydra station actually connects the 2 islands (which may explain the "if you run, you can make it there in an hour" comment in the season's first episode).

the big train 10-26-06 12:26 AM

Any chance Sawyer's money ended up in the bank Kate robbed?

Mercury&Solace 10-26-06 12:38 AM

A rather boring and uneventful episode...........I loved it :)

Flashbacks are pretty much pointless at this point. Other than being shoehorned into the island plot, what exactly did the flashback have to do with the island? Season 1 & most of 2's were useful since they showed why the characters were on the flight. The recent ones we could do without. What's next, we find the Hurly wipes his ass 6 times he craps and the flashback is when he is five and it gives the reason.

Kate was looking real good chainging and squuzing her ass out of those bars, nice!

like chess above I hate myself for continuing to watch this show.

It's maddening to me. If I get stuck on an island the first thing I do, is walk around the permiter. explore the fucker.. anyone who has been on any island maui etc knows that you can see islands all over the place in the distance.

damn stupid show

I agree with this. He could've possibly been lied to about the pacemaker, why not about "another" island?

Also, next week's thread will have multi-colored spoilers and be posted 48 hours before airtime in our new and improved "no holds barred" wrestling/fighting sub-forum.

Be there!

What's maddening to me is that they all seem resigned to stay on the island.

Like I mentioned in the thread during the episode that Jack had his first confrontation with that dude from Deadwood...he said to Jack it was "their island" (or something like that) Jack's response should've been "Keep it. We wanna get the fuck outta here". The only person who really seemed eager to get off was Michael.

Yeah, but would your island have smoke monsters and hostile 'others?' Sans those deterrents, I'm pretty sure they would have mapped the entire island by now. Meh, who am I kidding? You're right.

Also, sans being trapped in a cage and in fear of your heart exploding.

I thought it was an excellent episode with great character development for Sawyer's character, but not quite up to last week's. Still great though and I'm loving the way the producers have approached this season -- more action, less shitty side stories like a ring being lost or killing a Tree Frog.

By the way, does anyone know how this rated? did it pick up a little from the 16.3m last week?

This is my biggest problem, but I still enjoy the show a lot.

And they don't even throw the audience really much of anything that would even have us believe these people, even the ones in the background, aren't perfectly content living on this island where people are mysteriously dying, food drops come from the sky, etc.

I also had almost the same reaction to what Jack should have said.

Well, to be fair, it's also an island they've tried unsuccessfully to get off twice before, the first having resulted in a kidnapping and a gunshot wound. Michael tries to get off ... "OK, leaving the island is dangerous, but not impossible". But then Desmond ends up back after trying to leave and they start questioning themselves.

They've used non-lethal methods when they needed/wanted something from people. Maybe you're referencing a different time, but Ethan did kill Charlie when Jack and Kate were chasing him through the jungle. Charlie was dead when they found him and Jack resuscitated him. Also, the Others shot Sawyer when they took Walt and threw a bomb on the boat that could've/should've killed or severely injured Michael, Jin or Sawyer. The writers have shown us several times that the Others really don't have a problem killing people that get in their way.
