Shield Spinoff

October 24, 2006 -- CABLE channel FX is reportedly working on a spin-off of "The Shield" starring relief Det. "Dutch" Wagenbach.

The seventh season, set to end in 2008, will be the show's last.

And yesterday, it was reported that actor Jay Karnes, who plays the cut-up cop of the otherwise hard-bitten drama, is under consideration for a series of his own.

Freakin' sweet! I've always loved his character on the show.

Not for me thanks. I've never thought his character was anything special, and without the crew, he loses any interest to me he had.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

Darn, I suppose that means that they're not going to go any further with "dark Dutch"... I was kinda hoping he'd gradually get more psychotic...

That would be like spinning off Sam Malone from Cheers.

Or perhaps they will and this series is where it'll come to fruition? Who knows...

We have that show already in Dexter, though.

That's kind of my guess. You have to transfer Dutch out of the Barn to do a spin-off with him as a detective. If he goes dark, he just quits or disappears or something. Heck, maybe he goes to prison. It would be something to see him go dark, kill somebody, have Vic find out, and blackmail Dutch into taking the wrap for something Vic actually did.

I think it's a great idea, he's been an untapped guy the past few seasons, other than the famed "cat" ep.

Mixed feeling about this as of right now.

I LOVE Dutch's character, but one of my reason's for loving 'The Shield' is that it's a great ensemble show. No character really wears out their welcome and the stories fit well. Having an 'all Dutch' show may be too much.

If they can keep the same writers and if Shawn Ryan stays on board for this, it just may work though.

The only way I'm staying on for this is if the opening features Dutch singing "Hungry Like A Wolf" while driving around on the beat
