I agree with movieking - weakest episode yet...still some mildly entertaining stuff (LG was great) but not much of a plot to drive this one... still, I'll take average Sorkin over half of what's on other shows.

Who's the woman who plays Nate Corddry's mother? I know I've seen her before ...
Edit: Never mind ... I figured it out. She's one of those character actors who's been on everything. Her name is Nancy Lenehan. She's Earl's Mother on My Name is Earl.

A 50-year old white middle class Joe Sixpack has never heard of "Who's on 1st" nor Abbott & Costello.
I make light of carbon blobs, but Mr. Sorkin took it to a new level.
I had a glimmer of interest in this show after last week's episode but this one was a total yawner.

I loved this episode. The stuff with Corddry's dad was heavy-handed, but everything else was great. The one thing I wanted most out of this show was for Sorkin to bring his love and reverence for television history to the forefront, and we got a lot of that tonight plus some good character development. Tipsy friendless Jordan is hilarious.

I'm with Patman and das. Damn good episode if you ask me. Eli Wallach was terrific as the "freshman" comedy writer.
Was Aaron mixing and matching NBC, CBS, and ABC's early history to create NBS' or did he steal one specifically?
Loved Matt's reactions to the three cocktail waitresses. MP can do facial reactions like none other.
I can buy a middle age J6P not knowing Abbot and Costello. I met a girl at college a couple of years ago who had never used the Internet before. Of course, she blames me for her addiction.

My wife and I agree with das and Lunatikk, we really liked this episode. Although it was kind of slow, we got to see the innerworkings of some of the characters and see the other side of the show (the after party).
The only thing I couldn't wrap my head around were the three chicks that Danny was showing around. Why were they there?

Great episode, especially the parts with the blacklisted writer. I didn't realize that was Eli Wallach. I always forget that he's 40 years older than he was when he played Tuco.

I thought it was very good, with the exception of the parents.
LG's 3 lines were great.
Peet must not have gotten the memo that she's supposed to keep the huge jacket between her belly and the camera at all times

Treasure was the best looking one of the three, IMHO.

I can't. I really think it is unfathomable for someone of that demographic not to know Abbott & Costello or if not their names, the "Who's on First" skit, er, I mean sketch

I think it's interesting that half the people posting so far thought that this episode was really boring, and the other half thought it was the best so far.
Count me in the 2nd camp.
I loved this episode. We got an entire show without any of the lame "skit" elements, an absolutely great performance by Eli Wallach, Amanda Peet was really funny as drunk friendless Jordan, and the little subplot with Simon, Matt, and the new writer was really good as well. I hope they show more of the new writer too.
Am I the only one getting "Charlie" vibes from him? I know he doesn't look anything like Charlie from the West Wing, but the whole mentoring/apprenticeship that Charlie got from everyone on the West Wing seems similar to the type of role that Simon and Matt might have for the new guy. Just a thought...
