I didn't say that I believe the stereotype, but clearly many people do, and that joke wouldn't exactly help. My point was that DL should dislike that joke much as the Willie jokes.

Watched the episode and thought it was an improvment. I thought the new writer's joke about slavery, the burning bush, and the memo was hilarious but I guess that's just me. I get Charlie/Bailey vibe from the character's set up so we'll see where Sorkin goes with it (if it goes anywhere at all). I know Studio 60's being bumped next week, does it have a new slot or is Friday Night Lights just testing the slot?

The unfunny comic they hired reminds me of Toby. Toby was a lousy campaign manager, yet he said things that convinced Leo he was good to have on the campaign.

Homer: Ah ha ha, it's true, it's true! We're so lame!

Anyways, I just watched this episode and I was worried reading the first few posts in this thread about how everyone thought this was the worst episode yet, because I thought it was the best one so far. But then enough people chimed in with how much the loved it to restore my faith in this board...
Even the Eli Wallach stuff worked on me - that's the kind of stuff Sorkin does best, not hipster comedy.
Now, I figured out why it was a better episode episode than normal:
- No material or skits... um, I mean sketches from the "show".
- Less Sarah Paulson than usual - God, I fucking hate her...

I'm not sure why folks are still dazzled by H and his crew.

Bah. I didn't think this episode was anything great. The "blacklist" writer storyline made no sense in the overall scheme of the show and was poorly played out. The search for a star was contrived, and the family tour was nonsensical. Preachy, preachy, preachy.
I wish this should would find its voice, because when it does (e.g., last week's episode), it can be great. When it misses the mark, it's down right pendantic.

Tom: My parents don't know what I do for a living.
Simon: Are they alive?
Tom: Well, they live in Columbus, Ohio. So...barely

Simon's "escape from the gangs" backstory was more interesting the first time around when it was called "Boyz n the Hood"
Your brother is standing in a field in the middle of Afghanistan!
Jack's rant against "Nations" was my favorite part of the episode. Are we supposed to hate his character?

I agree completely. He is the best character; I guess because Sorkin wants his fans to hate him so much.

I too stopped watching CSI: Miami this year. I used to really like that show but Horatio's overacting got worse and now its spilling over to the other characters as well.
Its also turning into a fantasy show and soap opera rolled into one. It used to be somewhat real in terms of story lines. The longer the show goes on, the further away from anything close to reality they go.

I love S60 and I hated West Wing. I live in the north east.

I'm another one who found it unlikely that mom and dad never heard the "who's on first" routne, but I still found that subplot quite legit - how many people out there know their parents love them, but also know their parents are clueless as to what they are doing out in the real world.
And the Eli Wallach subplot was quite simply one of the most rewarding pieces of writing so far for this TV season.
