It's been an entertaining season, despite the fact that there has not been a clear cut favorite person to rally behind this season.
It's not like he's using Drano. He's using things that companies use in food, thickeners and stuff.

I get that, not that I am much of a cook, but I usually do not stock xanthax gum to spruce up my strawberry's and cream.

It was interesting to see this crap put to use though

Unless you're on a whole food diet then I don't see the problem. Ever read a label on processed foods? Not that I have the stuff in my kitchen either, but if I can eat it in some Cheetos.....

Seriously though, if I spend good money at a restaurant I want some really fresh, non-lab dishes, but it sounds pretty interesting.

I totally agree with you. I'm kinda at the point where I could've dealt with Marcel or Ilan in the finale if Elia or Sam were in it also. It's just hard to take Marcel AND Ilan in the finale. I really don't feel like I have anyone to root for. Instead, I feel like I'm going to watch the last episode just to root against Marcel, even though I really don't want to see Ilan win either.

As for Top Design, I'm going to give it a couple of trial viewings. If they are able to really stick with the formula that has worked for Project Runway and Top Chef, it will probably be pretty good. And I agree with everyone else that it's nice that these shows tend to stress talent more than other reality shows.

If you want to know who won TC, then click here-->
Spoiler:
The saffron king, Ilan. Food & Wine Magazine had a link to an interview with the TC winner, Ilan, on their site for a few minutes before they pulled it. So, bully Sam gets $10,000 for fan favorite and his sycophant, Ilan, gets $100,000 as grand champion. Ilan has Betty and Elia as his sous chefs for the finale(I foresee an incredibly obnoxious celebration taking place).

Without Sam or Elia (who by the way, is HOT), I can't bring myself to care who actually won this thing. Marcel is a whiney punk and Ilan is a backstabbing coward.

More interesting info-

Spoiler:
Food & Wine has now posted an article revealing Marcel as the winner. They said that they prepared both articles so they could publish the article with the true winner immediately after it had been announced. I believe the Marcel article is just a CYA effort by F&W for letting the cat out of the bag about Ilan. The Marcel article seems to be slapped together in a hurry(with misspelled words, no less). Unfortunately(for me), I still think that Ilan is the winner.

Yeah. Food and Wine Magazine is trying to do damage control. I'm pretty sure Bravo right now is pissed, especially as that spread across the web pretty quickly. Oh well.

However, to the winner. If it was going to be the other contestant winning I probably would've not watched season three (Sam and Elia* should be going to the final two, not Ilan and Marcel).

* By the way, Elia is a really nice person. I met her at work right when the season first started and we briefly spoke about the show and told her how I've been a fan of the show since the beginning. Very pleasant and sweet in real life, unlike that dickhead Stephen from Season 1 (who actually happens to be a dickhead in person as well).

It's hit CNN:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/TV/0....ap/index.html **spoilers**

Spoiler:
CNN says that Ilan wins too... and goes on to say that he quit his job in NY and has a "Money in the Bank" song on his myspace page.

Spoiler:
They were right... Ilan won... and Marcel wasn't too happy. Twit.

... and for the record, "Top Design" sucks. The "Mystery Celebrity" was a wash... never heard of him/her/it... but that's for another thread.

Although I enjoyed the season, these two in the finale was very unsatisfying, and I found myself actually rooting for the shmuck Marcel, becuase Ilan proves to be an eaven bigger shmuck.

All in all, good show, and looking forward to Season 3...

Well I did watch it and they were right... I think the winner of this show was deserved as he did seem to make the better food for this episode. Still wanted Elia to win and at least got to see her one last time.

Ilan is a cook and not a chef. Even in Tom's blog, he admitted thinking that many of the ideas for Ilan's dishes probably weren't his own but taken from the resturant where he worked. Marcel took risks while Ilan regurgitated dishes from the Spanish resturant. He should pay royalties to the exec. chef there. Marcel should have won and the judges made a bad decision in my opinion.

Elia is a spiteful person. She was uncompromising, refused to listen to the suggestions/criticisms of the judges and threatened to quit every other episode. I am glad that the judges called her on her BS of saying Illan's dishes were better than Marcel's even though she hadn't tasted Marcel's dishes.

horrible ending to a bad season.

ETA: The fish dish that the judges loved so much was cooked by Elia so Ilan didn't even do that much.

Because Marcel throws some Xanthum Gum in his dishes, hes an innovator? Please, everyone on that shows was a cook... Marcel should have been gone along time ago, and I didnt really like Ilian either (in fact less than Marcel) but for that episode, his dishes were better. Come on, Marcel put out a damn salad. Thats what lost it for him there.

That's the only thing that lost it for him I think. Look at one of the judges' blogs on Bravo, Tom C. He called Ilan Top Cook. He basically made all of his dishes from existing fare from the restaurant he works in. So between the two, yes, Marcel is an innovator, not because of his "chemistry", but because he actually made original dishes.

Why he decided to make a salad is beyond me...

I could accept Sam as Top Chef over Marcel, not Ilan.

marcel's salad dish was driven by his desire to do that "drssing encased in sugar" thing. even if he was successful in that, it was still a salad.

he should have tried that idea with a dessert or something, with some sauce in the sugar, and replaced the salad with something else.

In the end the most important thing when it comes to a meal is how great it tastes. I would rather have a pizza or burger that tastes great than a beautiful looking, innovative dish that tastes so so. Ilan deserved to win because his dishes tasted better.

Marcel f'ed up when he chose Mikey to be one of his sous chefs instead of Mia. Mikey even said he'd rather work with Ilan. It was just another dumb decision by Marcel that sealed his fate.

When Gail attacked Elia for criticizing Marcel's dishes even though she hadn't actually tasted them, I wish Elia had countered with, "Listen beetch, I don't have to eat dog sheet to know that it tastes bad."

Overall it was a satisfying conclusion to an entertaining season. I'm sure the show picked up a lot more fans this time around. I'm definitely pumped up for next season.

Season three has already been filmed and they're in editing right now. I only know this as my friend's brother is one of the contestants.

Actually, you're wrong about that. I was just looking over the Bravo site, and they have applications for Season 3 and also dates for auditions in certain cities, and Los Angeles isn't until February 11th or 12th, and New York happened in mid-January. Season 3 will likely begin filming in March.
