I wonder if this has anything to do with the two endings filmed (one if the show went on, one if it got cancelled). Perhaps they had to either push some of the storylines forward or condense the scenes, in order to wrap them up so they would time left to give the show a proper sendoff.

Patman 05-24-06 11:18 AM

No, I think the ending coda was exactly as written, show near-death subplots for Rose and Bright, and a marriage finally getting started, only to have the rug pulled out from under Edna and Irv as Irv suffers either stroke or heart attack.

Too bad their isn't a next season, we could have been introduced to Andy's half brothers Tommy, Johnny and Timo, along with Uncle Teddy.

Jadzia 05-24-06 02:37 PM

I am surprised that the WB promo department is still calling it the "season finale" and are making no mention that the show is ending.

For PR purposes, they cannot have Everwood ringing up a high rating for a series finale. It wouldn't look good.

What a fantastic episode. As with all shows there are a few clunker episodes but the storytelling in this show is top notch. Where most shows beat people over the head with what is happening in a scene (Jack to Audry: "I'll be right back... I promise...") Everwood has for the most part developed the plots and scenes in a beautiful manner. The storyline with Andy and his father was just an awesome arc for the series and is actually a fitting time for it to be happening since the series is ending.

Nina is really pissing me off. I have always pulled for Andy to be with her since it is obvious he so desperately wants it, but I am starting to think she is beneath him. The notion that she is staying with Jake because she took him back is ludicrious. I think there are rare cases of bad timing. The rest are just caused by people wanting to use bad timing as an excuse.

ChrisHicks 05-24-06 07:57 PM

my tivo lists next weeks ep. as the season finale with no other eps. to follow. strange.

I had heard about Irv being the one to kick the bucket a month ago, but forgot about it until they showed him preparing breakfast (and after getting his wish from Edna to do some traveling since Jake was closing up shop).
When he was making the breakfast I actually started to cry because I knew he was either going to keel over on his way to the room or he was going to find her passed away in bed... both of those where heartbreaking and I just started choking up.

With the case of Andy's Dad, I really like where they seem to be going with this plot device. The first several scenes where almost hard to watch (I caught myself looking away on several occasion), but afterwards I started to get it. Before they introduced the father I couldn't really think how they would be able to wrap up the show doing justice to the last four years, but with the scene with Delia, everything seems to be coming full circle, and with three episodes to wrapeverything else up, I think that we'll have closure...

Everwood 5/29/06

Just a reminder that 3rd to last Everwood airs tonight, and then a 2-hour series finale will air next Monday. Besides The Apprentice, it's the only new scripted show on TV tonight. :)

In the last episode, it didn't look good for you-know-who...

Patman 05-29-06 10:52 PM

Well... it was okay, showing how Irv affected the lives of the men of Everwood was good, but not great, though I did like the final scene with Andy and his own father to tie up that loose end. I did like the Amy and Ephram scene.

Goldberg74 05-29-06 11:07 PM

I watched the last three eps of Everwood in a row tonight (been out of town) and it was a good three hours of television.

I know this has been said countless times in the countless Everwood threads over the last four years, but Tom Amendes did it again with his flashback with Irv tonight. His acting and his character are one of the best things about television these days and he deserves some sort of recognition for it.

I'm not ready for this series to be over, but I will enjoy the series finale next week.

Chauzer 05-30-06 12:01 AM

i thought this episode was great.. its cool how they didnt just close the irv story right away but showed how he affected everyone's lives.

series finale next week :(

andy proposes to nina.. i really hope she says yes it would suck for jake, but andy really deserves her after everything he's gone through and overcome here in everwood

it'd be cool to see nina and andy get together, andy's dad staying to live w/ him, efram n amy gettin together, hannah and bright get back together.. but i dont htink all of that will happen, probably gonna have some sad thign happen :(

this is defiantely one of the best shows on tv, sad to see it go next week

critterdvd 05-30-06 12:02 AM

I didn't find this episode to be above average, but it was a very good set-up for the episode that follows... I have to add that the producers really like to pull at the audiences heart-strings in the last scene of their episodes.

I am really glad that the wb is actually advertising next monday as the '2-hour series finale," the show deserves a true 'series finale' and not some random 'season finale' that has been the fate delt to many good shows.

And the song that played over the last scene with the "fields of holly"... what is with that song! "Dawson's Creek," "Buffy the VAmpire Slayer," "7th Heaven," "Gilmore Girls," "Felicity," and "Roswell" (that I know of) have all had that song, and everytime it gets to me...

hahn 05-30-06 02:28 AM

"Fields of Gold", originally by Sting. Not sure who sings this version, but I think it sounds a LOT like Eva Cassidy.

Man, I JUST found out today that Everwood wasn't picked up for CW. I think that SUCKS given that they renewed One Tree Hill AND Seventh Heaven. Honestly, I wonder if TV execs ever even watch their own shows.

That said, I actually think it's decent timing to end the series. I'm only a little annoyed because I think the show deserved a little more time to wrap up its stories. Now it feels a little sudden. I wish they would've booked them for a half season to give them a proper buildup for a finale. Anyhow, I think CW made a big mistake.

Ayre 05-30-06 08:14 AM

Too much crammed into a single episode, but I guess that is what is to be expected.

Whatever happened was overshadowed by the fact that the series is ending and my favorite show will be off the air.

dek 05-30-06 09:56 AM

Only 1 ep left :(

FUCK YOU CW

DRG 05-30-06 10:57 AM

Good episode. I like that they managed to give Irv a fitting memorial and simultaneously move the story forward. Hopefully everyone gets some sort of fitting closure next week (which is thankfully two hours). The one I feel kinda bad for is Delia, since she's never had a real chance to break out as more than a glorified background character, especially in the past two seasons.

Do you think they'll have her "party" next week?

I hope so. She's been practicing for so long. ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if the party is the setting when everything starts to come together with Andy/Nina and Ephram/Amy... it will probably be the reason that everyone is at the same place at the same time...

On a different note, did anyone else find it kinda mean (like throwing salt in the wound low) that the WB kept advertising them moving 'one tree hill' to its "new time" almost every commercial break durring 'Everwood.' I mean I will admit that I campagined a lot more for OTH's survival than EW, but that was just low to all the EW fans...

Patman 05-30-06 03:28 PM

I laughing more at the description being used for this year's season of Smallville as being "Legendary" But I digress...

bigjim25 05-30-06 05:23 PM

Bright is not that bright. I loved it when he said something like he wanted to join the army because they don't allow women and Irv was like have you ever met your grandma. They must have known for awhile that Everwood wasn't coming back because damnit, it would not be the same without Irv!

That bright scene was the best line last night. And as for Irv, I never though of it like that, but your right... the show never felt the same when they stoped with his introductions, and he was a huge part of the series (more than most probably think).

"For one thing, ewwww..." - Harold Abbott

Patman 05-30-06 08:51 PM

The commercials for the season finale are killing me! They give away the store (so turn the channel if you happen to catch on the WB this week).
