Watching them kiss at the end was like watching some chick make out with a grizzly bear. -eek-

I'm enjoying the Andy/Amanda thing, even if it is wrong. I'm glad to see Ephram and Bright's friendship rebuilding as well. Dr. Jake is starting to grow on me, and Hannah is startign to fit in really well.
The Ephram/Amy thing is starting to get tiresome, however. It's the only place in the show where the drama feels somewhat forced to me. It's like the writers have to go out of their way to create new tense situations for these two to be in. |

Originally posted by shoppingbear Dangit dangit dangit! I didn't turn my VCR off so it didn't record, anyone care to recap for me?? Did he talk to Madison or not?? Andy convinces Harold to do his "pro bono" work with John and Amanda so that Andy didn't have to see her again because of his improper attraction to her, which is mutual. Andy encounters Amanda at the school play, and it's a chilly encounter to say the least. Harold shows up at Amanda and John's house, with slide projector in hand and proceeds to go cover the benefits of using colors as emotional therapy for John. Amanda is not amused, and basically fires Harold on the spot as she's given up the chase for progress in John's condition. Ephram spots a flyer for "Joe Lies" playing in town, and this was the band that Madison fronted last year. So Ephram's curiousity, plus getting spotty advice from Bright upon a chance encounter at a diner, gets the better of him, and he cancels his date with Amy to go check out "Joe Lies", and Ephram finds out that it was all for naught as the band has a new female lead singer, but one of the band members gave Ephram her number. Later, Ephram tells Andy that he went to see "Joes Lies" in an effort to see Madison, and that gets Andy all verklempt, but he is relieved when Ephram said that Madison isn't in the band anymore, that he was over Madison, and he left Madison's number (written on a napkin) with Andy so that perhaps Delia could talk to her if she wanted that to happen. Andy is doubly relieved to have the number now. Amy goes digging around Hannah's evasiveness when it comes to her parents, and Nina at least confirms to her that Hannah's parents aren't living in Hong Kong, but Hannah would have to be the one to tell her the rest of the story. Amy go to talk to Hannah, and finally Hannah admits that her father is stricken with Huntington's disease, which is pretty much a degenerative mental disease with no cure (this was gleaned from Amy's research in the library, and Dr. Jake returning some overdue books and adding to Amy's understanding of the disease). Amy is said for Hannah, but that's precisely why Hannah was guarded about her father condition as she didn't want to be the girl to be pitied. Hannah also tells Amy that when her older brother went off to college, her mother didn't have enough resources to take care of her and her father, so that's why she's moved in with Nina for her final few years of high school. Ephram feels guilty about going to see "Joe Lies" and when Amy comes over to talk about Hannah, Ephram thinks Amy is going to bust him about seeing Madison, and when he lets the cat out of the bag, Amy gets indignant and defensive and leaves in a huff. Ephram should have just played it cool, but he just can't. Andy goes to see Amanda after finding out that she kicked out Harold, and before you know it, they finally kiss, and kiss, and I could have sworn to see some French being spoken between them... credits roll. |
Thanks Patman! :) Sorry I missed it (well, not the kissing, Anne Heche is :yack: ) but excellent recap. :)

I finally managed to catch this last night. Not a bad episode overall. I am getting sick of Amy making everything with Hannah to be a charity project. Glad to see Hannah stick up for herself and kick her to the curb on this one. Also, I do think the Andy bit is wrong. I was glad he had the willpower to say no a few weeks ago, but now :( .
I like Bright and Ephram's interactions, but I think at this point in his life Bright could be self destructive for E. Look at the advice he was giving him even though he knew his sister was "the other girl". ... Good to see Delia has more of a backseat these days. I do NOT miss her getting screen time. What grade is she in anyway? I don't suppose we'll see her as a freshman while E is a senior next year. I also think the next new ep isn't until end of Jan, but that's okay since they are only on episode 10. That gives them 12 to play with - hopefully we won't have the usual April drought. |
I think Delia is like 10 or 11 nowadays. Maybe they'll send her away in the summer and she'll return next season as a 16 year old.

It was nice to have this back on the air w/ a new ep - too bad it was just an okay ep. Nothing really stood out...

I was sad about Irv and Edna. :(

Where else on network TV do you see elderly, sexually active, bi-racial couples? I hope Irv doesn't leave the show. He hasn't been narrating this season, has he?
|
If he has been, it hasn't been every ep.
|
They got rid of the narration this season.
The on-again, off-again Amy-Ephram storyline grated on my nerves a bit, but is probably the same storylines that plays out for many young couples where one feels like the 2nd banana in the relationship and simmers about it instead of being proactive about the situation (until this episode). So Ephram and Bright are making their way back on their own on-again, off-again relationship (hinted by last couple of episodes before this protracted break). Liked the Edna on edge with the patient scene, but I wasn't all that moved with the Irv-Edna subplot. Andy and Amanda's subplot is so painful at times. Andy is in a can't win situation. The heart wants it, but every other rational bone in his body knows it's just not right. If Amanda were a widow, things would be fine, but not this way, it's too sordid. |
I enjoyed the show. My favorite part of the show was the conversation between Andy and Ephram at the hospital. Ephram is afraid to say I love you Dad but he related that to Andy in his own way. :)

You know, I wasn't even aware this was on this week. I thoguht it might be, but it's been so long...
Anyway, I thought it was a decent ep. As I said above, it's been a while so I almost forgot where we left things. I did remember Ephram and Amy and their rift. Having said that I was impressed how Amy handled it and that they did not break up. I would have liked to have seen a conversation between Amy and next door girl to show a little more of Amy's thinking process. It was interesting to see how much guilt Andy is feeling over what happened. I was hoping he would tell her he didn't have any feelings for her and that we wouldn't see her again (not that I don't think they have chemistry). I just feel as though Andy is falling from his usual moral high ground. I'm willing to bet this comes out publicly and Ephram supports him, but then he'll find out about Madision and turn on him. I'm also willing to be Ephram and Amy give this retooling a shot for about a month, at which point there is a huge fight. Then a few weeks will pass and she'll get her acceptance from Princeton knowing she did not apply... I really felt Erve's pain, and thought Edna was the one acting out. However, when she gave him his "office" and said write, I thoguht for a few minutes that his book would be the story of Everwood, and it would begin with "I wasn't there the day Dr. Andy Brown's life changed forever...", but I guess that's not how it happens. Overall, I'd say a good episode to get back into things, plus a thumbs up for no Delia! |
