I guess I am in a minority that I really felt bad for Jake the way Hanna talked to him. I know he's not her dad, but he's got her best interest at heart. And she is a teenager and should have some adult guidance in her life. Her rejecting that out right wasn't right, actually. She's got a dad already, WHO IS DYING and lives in ANOTHER STATE! They need to clamp down some rules on that girl, both Jake and Nina.

sq240 10-23-05 08:48 AM

I disagree with Jake's behavior. He has no right to be laying ground rules in Nina's house. I think Hannah hit the nail on the head when she told Jake off. I can't stand Jake and between him and Ephram's constant whining, it really drags the show down in my opinion when they are on the screen. While I still love the show and think it is one of the best written shows on TV, it had been a little too depressing this season. I think Madison would be a great character to add. Personally I would have liked to see Ephram stay in NY and go to Julliard. I think Everwood is the type of show that could survive two different locations because the cast is so strong.

Gilmore girls has ten times the amount of plot and 1,000 times the sense of humor that this show has. and most times gilmore girls barely has a plot. if you are going to be depressing all the time virtually then you have to have something big going on.

i thought the show hasnt been depressing (which is what i was expecting)since this season started.

the stories are pretty lighthearted and lean more toward humor than the usual soap opera-ish stories they get criticized for. From the commercials it's just the same. I thought it was cause of the new day and timeslot they were trying to get new viewers, as the episodes and clips so far havent been relying on past seasons to get people to watch. And the cast is 3 times larger than when the show started, but seems to be well balanced and interesting still. They still havent had a breakout show this season that sets it apart from other shows.

I've read somewhere that in future episodes we'll be seeing more of Steve McQueen, so if you're annoyed by him, be prepared.

Those soap opera-ish stories are what I watch the show for. There is not any other show that can bring a tear to my eye like this one COULD. I am an old romantic at heart and this show preys on it.

The humor was much much better last season. The flower arrangements and the dominoes were a waste of the best actor on the show.

As for ephram, When the circle of Ephram, Amy, Harold and Andy is in full spin, the show is at its best. Ephram's role is crucial. They need to try a little harder at making him likeable or at least substitute Delia in a more dramatic way.

Don't get me wrong. I still enjoy the show, but the quality has been dropping slowly with each season.

Hannah said something about Jake being a freeloader not paying rent, but isnt it true last season, Nina lost her job so he bought the diner just for her to run?

A Tom Amandes directed episode, and I thought it captured the classic Everwood qualities and provided some insight to some personal growth, especially w/r/t Ephram who has still got Amy in his head, but too bad she's pretty much moving on with Reid, and that horizon is looking much brighter for her for now. Seeing Andy and Ephram actually talk to one another without any animosity was a step in the right direction for their relationship.

Jake has turned into the Tazmanian Devil of plastic surgery, perhaps he's feeling the heat of financial burdens. Having Edna finally coming around and getting herself up to speed with the new medical technologies plays with the notion that you can teach an old dog new tricks after all. :)

Is Bright really okay with the situation with Hannah's stance of no pre-marital hanky-panky? For now, even after semingly making up his mind, Hannah's other intangibles won him over, for one night, at least.

jmoney48 10-28-05 10:16 PM

i dont see the bright/hannah thing working... unless this season is the season "bright grows up because of hannah"

yeah, its too bad ephram will probly have no chance w/ amy now... maybe theyre having her hook up with reid cuz hes pretty much the opposite of ephram... then when it doesnt work out between her and reid... she will go back to ephram :P

Patman 10-28-05 10:23 PM

The 14 year old piano "student" cracks me up because he's always giving Ephram crap, and Ephram pretty much takes it because it's just karma making a house call on a regular basis now with these lessons.

Ayre 10-29-05 02:41 AM

Great episode and most definately a return to the feel of the first few seasons.

The script was on a totally different level than the earlier episodes. I wonder who got the writing credit. Acting was much better as well. Maybe they work better when they actually have something good to say.

This show was somewhat of a rite of passage for the fathers. Both realizing that you cannot treat a child, as a child, forever. Good stuff.

Even Dr. Teeth got his own storyline.

B.A. 10-29-05 06:14 AM

I'm still mad that we didn't get to see Naughty Pilgrim Amy.

Goldberg74 10-29-05 09:10 AM

But we did get to "French Maid" Cheyenne on Reba last night! ;)

... and this episode was great. Afterwards I asked my wife if we could have post-marital sex since we are married. :D

I loved how Andy asked for the bottle of wine after Ephram said he was still in love with Amy... and then to see him overhear Amy telling Hannah about 'the kiss' I felt that we are back on a downward spiral between him and his son... again.

boredsilly 10-29-05 10:41 AM

Good episode, but I really don't like the new Amy relationship. Those two have zero chemistry.

I don't get the new Amy relationship. The guy is supposed to be a butt pirate, but is macking on women. I guess he bats both ways.

Bright jumped to the conclusion that Reid was gay when he said he lost his [EMT] partner.

He's been straight the whole time... we've just been conditioned to think other wise.

That's good writing.

... but Amy falling for him isn't.

Chauzer 10-29-05 07:32 PM

good episode. .was nic eto see efram and andy on good terms again

Jadzia 10-31-05 10:11 AM

I finally got to see this episode, since it was delayed in Detroit until Saturday night.

I remember when Bright first learned that Reid was "gay', I posted here that I thought he assumed incorrectly, but everyone here told me I was nuts.

And what happened to the girl that Reid was kissing on in the library? Why does Amy assume he is available?

calhoun07 10-31-05 03:50 PM

Because Amy is the town slut.

Jadzia 11-03-05 04:01 PM

They should not title an episode like that for a show that takes place in the mountains.

Goldberg74 11-03-05 05:00 PM

"And I'm freeeeeeee.... freeeeeeee fallin'!"

They should rename the episode "All Down Hill". ;)

Patman 11-03-05 10:17 PM

11/3/05

Some reflective bits come out of the mediation between Andy and Jake, probably more than Nina had anticipated, but probably won't find out for now.

Amy being flustered by Reid was funny in spots, and *gasp* they even talked about keeping it casual, and contrasting that with high school relationships. But still, with Ephram lurking around, the 3-way love triangle should emerge soon enough.

Harold and Rose's subplot was well-meaning, but not as interesting. At least they covered Rose's anxiety and its manifestion in her making plans on a "farewell" tour of the world, so to speak.

Ephram's stepping outside of himself and seems to want to help his protege reach his Julliard dream, Ephram had a great self-realization that he was becoming his own dad.

Jadzia 11-04-05 09:50 AM

I don't understand why this kid would be applying to Juilliard already if he is only 15. I know Ephram went to some summer program for high schoolers, but do they have a a regular program for high schoolers, too?

And I don't understand if he doesn't have $100 for an application fee, why not get a job? A paper route even? My first paycheck from my minimum wage job in 1987 was $93.17, he could surely make more money now. Of course, since Ephram doesn't know how to get a non-piano job, I guess he didn't think to suggest this to Ephram, Jr.

Daniel-A 11-04-05 01:19 PM

I'm getting less and less out of this show. The only things keeping me entertained are the scenes with Bright and Hannah. And Delia when she is on. Everything else is annoying me. Particularly anything involving the adults.

Chauzer 11-04-05 03:22 PM

good episode, i liked i

Goldberg74 11-04-05 04:14 PM

"... maybe we'll play with matches." - Hannah to Sam, trying to get him away from the dinner table.

My wife doesn't know David Sedaris from The Killers. Gee what would you choose? Talk about two different types of people.

The therapy session.
