I don't want to over-analyze this, but on the Jericho website the map of the town shows three roads labeled 40, 83, and I-70. Assuming 40 and 83 are US-40 and US-83, there is one town in western KS where all three roads meet.

Oakley, KS, whish is 250 miles E of Denver, 75 miles from the CO border on I-70, or approx 60 miles as the dead crow flies.

Granted, there's no chance that the "I-70" on the Jericho website map is the actual I-70, since it's pretty apparent that there's not an interstate highway there, but Jericho is at the junction of three roads numbered 70/40/83 and is in western KS -- which describes Oakley.

Quick someone go to Oakley and go to the edge of town and take a picture pointing west.

And detonate a nuclear missile so we can skip forward and see what happens to the town and it's citizens.

Decent episode. I really liked how the last scene was framed where we just keep seeing the ex-cop's hand taking pins out of the drawer - very effective. Glad the prisoner story is finished and I could have lived without the shootout. For a teacher that woman was not the sharpest tool in the shed. Seriously the only character I care about is the ex-cop (and I think there's more to that than he's telling) and I'm so happy that they didn't make him one of the escaped prisoners.

Jericho did not shed any viewers from last week, so it's holding the line in terms of viewership so far. (But Dancing With the Stars Results show still beat them handily by about 40% more in viewership).

in regards to the local people not knowing the cops... I got the impression from the criminal transportation bus, that the criminals were being transported from one place to another, and just passing by Jericho (since they were out of the actual town when they crashed). The cops were probably from the town they originated in. Didnt catch if the cop car they were driving was from Jericho or not though... Since they could of stole the cop car traveling with the bus from their original destination, or the Jericho cop car that came across the crash.

I'm almost sure the police car said "Jericho" on it.

Not only did it say "Jericho" and "Sheriff", the cameraman spent many seconds on it in slow pan to beat home to the audience that this was the sheriff's car, and these were bad men.

They could have also used the technique of having the men's eyes dart back and forth - Then we would "suspect" that these men were Badddd Neeeews!

You and I both. I was less than enthralled by the pilot, and this latest episode hasn't changed that initial impression one iota. Regardless of the potential the premise holds all I've witnessed thus far is an underwhelming mix of uninvolving characterization, an apparent teen melodrama arc in the making, and cliche piled upon cliche.

This show is ridiculous.

That shootout

I'll keep watching, of course, until I get bored.

I think the show is ok, definitely tedious at times but at least the little substories seem to resolve themselves pretty quickly. E.g in the pilot episode, the lost children in the bus and in this episode the convicts. That could have been dragged out over a few episodes.

I will give the show another couple of eps then may move to to archive for the summerbreak category. That's when i 'record' all the episodes of a show and watch them in one hit when the tv season has finished and there isn't as much to watch. I did that with Supernatural last year, i couldn't get into it from the first couple of eps but watching the whole season i in a week i really got to like the show.

I was thinking more along the lines of Tanner and Maj Eugene Denton from Damnation Alley :-)

With Jerico, I don't care if Depp-lite repairs his wounded relationship with his father or if the little kids without parents hook up and become buds. That should be the seasoning, not the entree.
It seems to be all too common these days that they only write the beginning of the show and even the writers have no idea where the story is going. No point writing the whole story if you don't know how long it's going to be on. It makes for good entertainment up front, but inevitable suckage when they have to explain their way out of the situations they have created. The soap opera stuff is just filler to drag the show out. The show is pretty good so far, but I have a feeling I won't stay with it.

I did really like the suspense of the radio channel thing, I had not seen that done before.

For the first 3 or 4 years, the guys over at 24 were only plotting 8 episodes at a time, so it CAN work. BTW, 24's writers/producers have always had the best motto for their show (stated on the 2nd Season DVD set): "It doesn't always have to be realistic, but it should always be entertaining."

Wow, I want to not like this show but love it. The problem is that it is too horrible. I think we all (or mostly agree) that the concept is pretty great. Unfortunately the writing, directing and producing is soooo bad that it just takes away from when anything half decent happens.

The cliches are so bad. And what the hell is with the horrible soundtracks? Its like the writing and direction cannot create the atmosphere (unlike Lost) so they try to cover all the faults up.

Seriously, am I the only one who rolled their eyes and/or let out a groan once every few minutes?

Problem is we see police procedurals every day...24 CAN just entertain and were not left yearning for long discussions about Miranda rights....but post-nuclear holocost shows are few and far between, and most people are gonna be more interested in what would REALLY happen to society if this were to happen

"24" is a good example of what I meant. They use story arcs where Jack Bauer will battle one villain only to find out there's another villain behind that one and the various arcs are tied together in a season-long "save the world" premise. The old shows "Wiseguy" and "Crime Story" did this really well, too. I think writers for shows like "Lost" don't have a complete story outline in mind and they put a bunch of strange stuff early on but then wind up having to make up some stupid BS to get out of the corner they've painted themselves into.

I'm in the same boat. That scene was very effective and well done, focusing on the basket of pins as he continued to take more and more out.

I know we didn't see all of the cities he marked, but it seemed like the show made a point of showing LA but then panning down to San Diego, indicating that LA had not been hit. Who would nuke San Diego but not LA?

This is probably my #1 complaint with the show (well, aside from the bad acting - skeet is at least serviceable. his dad, mother, and brother get on my nerves to no end - especially the brother). in the pilot, the snow patrol song they selected for the crow scene did not fit AT ALL. it was like someone said, "hey! snow patrol is in the latest soundtrack by zach braff! it's hip! let's use it!" totally mis-managed use of music.

Same here. After finally watching the episode last night, I wasn't that into it until the radio scene.

Now I hope to god that he reveals the list to somebody else (and us) in the next epsiode instead of pulling a LOST, and keeping it to himself.

Well didnt Ulrich's character say he was heading back to San Diego when he left Jericho in the first ep? I dont know if that means anything, but they made sure that they should him putting the pin into San Diego.
