Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip "Pilot" 09/18/06

"Pilot"

Spoiler:
Matthew Perry, Bradley Whitford and Amanda Peet head up a top-notch ensemble in this drama, which chronicles the backstage goings-on at a popular late-night comedy-sketch show. First up: “Studio 60” showrunner Wes Mendell has a public meltdown, and newly appointed network president Jordan McDeere scrambles for damage control. Sarah Paulson, D.L. Hughley, Steven Weber, Timothy Busfield and Nathan Corddry also star. From “The West Wing” producers Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme.

I really enjoyed the premiere episode.

Me too. Also liked that I was able to see it early via Netflix. Certainly helped lock itself into my Tivo Season Passes for the fall!

Haven't seen it yet, and really looking forward to it. I think this one will do well.

After seeing it earlier this summer, I got so excited, and the promos that they have been showing lately of new scenes from what I am guessing are upcoming episodes are really funny!! I can't wait until next week when I get to see a fresh episode!

Loved the pilot and the scenes for next week are very promising (it airs a day earlier in Canada). Definitely my favourite new show so far and I'll be tuning in weekly...I can only hope others do as well.

Does NBC show stuff 16:9 on their non-HD channels? My HD-DVR is rapidly filling up with stuff from Fox and ABC that gets cropped for non-HD broadcast. Can't remember what NBC's policy is with this.

Looking forward to this tonight.

NBC shows SNL in a widescreen presentation.

They also show The Office letterboxed in SD.

For those with DVR or other conflicts, or otherwise miss the NBC premeire, Bravo is re-airing the pilot at 11pm ET on Wednesday and Sunday.

All of the critics have been praising this show for the last several months, and the Internet "buzz" is good too.

I'm watching, but all I'm saying is that with all this hype, unless it's better than sex on top of a chocolate pie in heaven, I'm going to be disappointed.

Uh, I guess you'll be disappointed, then. It's never a good thing to believe the hype, just watch and judge for yourself.

So what is the difference between this and the Tina Fey show? I'm thinking I have the 2 of them confused.

The extent of my knowledge on that question: This is an hour-long drama with some comedy. Fey's is a half-hour sitcom.

That's it.

Aaron Sorkin couldn't land Tracy Morgan. 'Nuff Said.

I watched this early. I really enjoyed it and have high hopes for it. My favorite character so far is Cal Shanley played by Timothy Busfield. His character and storyline in the pilot just bring back memories of my Multi-cam directing class. I was a little worried about Amanda Peet and Matthew Perry, but they do a fantastic job. Sarah Paulson is also really good. She seems very natural. This is the first I have seen of her work. I just hope it will be nearly as good as Sports Night. I will be very pleased if it is.

Sarah Paulson is the weak link for me, but then again, I've never enjoyed her work in anything I've seen of hers.

I almost watched this online last week (AOL is broadcasting it for free), but decided to wait until the pilot tonight to catch it in HD. I can't wait to check it out. I'm a huge West Wing and Sorkin fan (I love The American President and Sports Night), so I have nothing but really high hopes for this. The fact that the reviews have been stellar (USA Today gave it ****/****) are only making the wait that much longer.

Both the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald gave this stunning reviews.

I'm only checking this out because of the glowing reviews. I've never seen any of Sorkin's stuff so I am interested in seeing how I might like this.

I'll watch tonight, but my expectations are very low. I really hate Sorkin's previous work.
