Family Feud with John O'Hurley, anyone?

This started yesterday- we're getting two episodes a day here, but they don't seem to be in any order. The first episode they aired had a returning family!

I'm a huge fan of the Richard Dawson and Ray Combs era, and they seem to have finally nailed the feel of the show after those awful Louie Anderson/Richard Karn incarnations. The set is an update to the classic one, and they brought back the family poses in the beginning of the show. O'Hurley wears suits and knows how to good-naturedly insult the contestants, just like Dawson.

The only thing I don't like is the music- they kept that generic-sounding tune.

What was wrong with Louie? I actually liked him the best.

I'd rank them:
Louie
Combs
Karn
Dawson

I just never liked Dawson. He always seemed so creepy to me.

I didn't know Peterman was the new host.

For me, Ray Combs will always be associated with Family Feud. I grew up watching Ray host the show (from 1988 to 1994 on CBS and in syndication) and his era of Feud is the only one I care to watch. I probably have a couple hundred or more episodes on tape (from GSN) including the July 4, 1988 CBS premiere. Nobody ever did it better than Ray. I can't say enough good things about him. He was funny, sincere, and energetic. Family Feud had such a high energy level (especially in terms of hosting) the six years that Ray was on and it has never been duplicated. I even like the 'Bullseye' round that they added in 1992. Ray's suicide on June 2, 1996 really hurt me bad. Even though I only knew him through television, I still felt like I lost a really close friend. I still miss him, over ten years later.

The 1994-1995 syndicated season with Richard Dawson was mildly entertaining, but a far cry from the greatness of the Combs era. Firing Ray was the worst decision the producers of Feud ever made.

I don't watch the 1976-1985 ABC/syndicated episodes with Dawson, the 1999-2002 syndicated episodes with Louie Anderson, or the 2002-2006 syndicated episodes with Richard Karn. I never found them entertaining.

I like the new Family Feud with John O'Hurley as the host. I always like the family poses at the beginning of the show. Glad they brought that back.

What is the 'bullsyeye' round? I don't think I ever watched Family Feud with the Bullseye round.

Can't top Dawson for me. Combs was good, as was Karn, but Anderson was terrible. I'm interested in what O'Hurley will do.

Why did they fire Ray Combs? He should be hosting something on GSN at least.

Bullseye was added to the CBS edition on June 29, 1992. The show expanded from thirty minutes to one hour and was renamed "Family Feud Challenge." On September 14, 1992, Bullseye was added to the syndicated edition. This edition remained a half hour show, but was retitled "The New Family Feud."

Bullseye was played at the beginning of each show and determined how much money the winning family would be playing for in Fast Money. During the first half of CBS' Family Feud Challenge, the families started with $2,500 in their banks. Five questions were asked. For the first question, the two heads of the families would face off at the podium. For the second question, the second family members, etc. The first question was worth $500, the second $1000, the third $1500, the fourth $2000, the fifth $2500. Thus, a maximum of $10,000 was possible. All that mattered in Bullseye was the number one answers to the questions. If you gave the number one answer, money was added to your family's bank. For the second half of CBS' Family Feud Challenge and the syndicated half hour "The New Family Feud," the families started with $5,000 in their banks. Bullseye questions were worth $1000, $2000, $3000, $4000, and $5000. Thus, a maximum of $20,000 was possible.

When Richard Dawson returned to the syndicated one hour edition of "Family Feud" on September 12, 1994, Bullseye became the 'Bankroll' game. Only three questions were asked instead of five. For the first half, families started with $2,500 in their banks with Bankroll questions being worth $500, $1500, and $2500, for a possible $7,000. In the second half families started with $5,000 in their banks with Bankroll questions worth $1000, $3000, and $5000, for a possible $14,000.

Ray had six children with his wife, Debra (Debbie). About a year after his death she remarried and soon had a seventh child.

I didn't think anyone could be blander than Richard Karn, but I was wrong. The next host will be a large glass of whole milk.

But that still doesn't answer his first question, since Combs was fired from the show before he killed himself. Low ratings were the reason.

The only Family Feud host I'm interested in watching wears a tight vest and molests the female contestants.

Can you imagine if it were after?

Studio Exec at Ray's funeral: Ray, I know you're dead and all, but I need to make this official. Your fired.

I'd watch it.

They could manipulate his body with strings like he's a puppet, and have someone else do voiceovers.

I still wish they would bring back the old theme, at least during the opening.

i always hated the fact that on FF it seemed the first few rounds never mattered - all you had to do was win the last round (where the points where tripled).

you could seemingly win the first 3 rounds for a total of say, 280 points then they would say "we are running out of time - the points are now TRIPLED!" so whoever wins that one round wins the whole thing.

I forgot to check it out right at the start of the season. I have scheduled a few episodes on the DVR so I can evaluate the show. As far as my opinion of the hosts go, I rank them:

Dawson
(giant gap)
Combs
(giant gap)
Anderson
Karn

My guess is that John might be able to make it up to Combs territory based on his TTTT tenure.
