Haven't seen either, are any of them worth watching? I dig mamet and like the shield, but heard unit wasn't very good.

Thief was more of a miniseries than an actual weekly show. I liked it, if you're an Andre Braugher fan it's worth watching.
The Unit is ok. The story with the wives drags it down.

I love The Unit. I did not think I would have based on the concept but the writing really makes it special, IMO. Much like how the writing on House elevates that show above just a medical procedural.

"Thief" was boring. I never was able to get into it.

I liked Thief a lot. It was very intense, slow burn type of show. It's a shame it didn't make it. Andre Braugher is a great actor. If you have a chance to watch it, I recommend it. It will probably play nicely as a DVD set. 6 episodes of a self contained story.
I watched the first few episodes of The Unit and wasn't impressed. It wasn't bad, but just didn't keep my interest.

Thief is well worth watching some time if you have the patience for it.
If you can live with about 35-40% of the show sucking the life out of the rest, The Unit is worthwhile. It works okay for me. I tend to surf while watching shows, so I just surf more intensely when the wives appear.

I enjoyed Thief quite a bit. And I love how they are calling it a mini-series now that it didn't get picked up.
I've watched The Unit a couple of times, and the wives' subplots completely bring the show to a grinding halt.

Either way, it disgusts me how it was entered as a mini-series for the Emmy awards even though it was cool to see Andre win an award.

I thought "Thief" was excellent and Braugher was very compelling in the lead. Because the 6-episodes had a sense of closure, it is well worth watching if it comes out on DVD.
I tried "The Unit" for about 5 episodes but couldn't get into it. I only tuned in again briefly to watch the Gale Harold episode (missed the first of two).

There will be now more Thief? Please say it's not so.
I loved the show. Wasnt for those with a short attention span. Story driven and edgy. They should have made it a Fox channel series instead of FX.

I liked both Thief and The Unit. Thief was more unique, adding a new layer of tension episode by episode until by the end you wonder how it will be resolved. While I was annoyed by some of the acting (perhaps because most of it was superb), the writing was pretty sharp.
The Unit surprised me. I expected it to fit into the comfortable (read "predictable") CBS mindset and it doesn't. It frequently veers into uncharted territory for TV (and I don't mean the locations), has a terrific cast and more backstory than LOST. Fortunately it has a better sense of how to use it.
All in all, two of the best shows of last season. Both are well worth viewing.
