"Jericho"- New Show on Wednesdays

Ultra conservative friend of mine said the same thing. "I don't like it because the idea kind of scares me."
It's supposed to! It preys on that fear of extinction. That in combination with the fear for survival should make for some gripping television.
... only if the writers handle it well.
Major Dad seemed a little miscast.

Major Dad actually plays a good role! After seeing him in the pilot I thought they did a good job casting him.

EW reckon it'll get the chop early on this season.

I don't think so. I think that its only real competition is Bones, which is also a Drama, and there is a big chunk of audience that doesn't watch that show. That being said, hopefully viewers won't be drawn to watching the DWTS results as opposed to this, but you never know. I think that it has a fighting chance of getting through!

why do you think jusitce will be canned soon?
As far as JERICHO is, I personally LOVED the pilot... it was engrossing, and at the end I just wanted to watch more and more... While I think the major arc will probably take a backseat to the small town/reshaping stories-of-the-week, it should still make for a good TV show.
