Wow, if anyone's watching the postshow coverage on E!, Paula Abdul was HAMMERED!!! Which surprised me not at all of course, but I do think someone over at E! should've been merciful and ended that interview the moment she started slurring her words and making odd hand gestures.

Could've done without the song, but the opening was good. I would've been happy to have the show run a little long if they could've thrown in a few more jokes or bits. It felt like Conan was barely there. A lot of writers in the credits for so little. Direction was pretty terrible.
Love that The Office won. & Andre Braugher - even though I wasn't crazy about Thief, he was fantastic in it. Nice to see Elizabeth I get all the awards. You could just tell when watching it that it would sweep. Also nice to see Kelly Macdonald win even though no one in the audience knew the movie or who she was. If they're going to show these things, maybe they should rethink how they do the guest star awards.
Colbert was great.

I am so happy about The Office, 24, and Kiefer Sutherland winning that I am willing to let things like the Tony Shalhoub win slide. Those make me happy.
The show was pretty ok tonight. It wasn't stellar, but I didn't want to turn the channel more than a few times. That's a step up from last year.

I agree. Every single major member from the best ensemble to grace the television screen in years deserved an Emmy award and none of them have one.

Who the hell is Blythe Danner?

I think this year's Emmy wins were the result of a nominating system that just shut out way too many deserving shows and acting performances. Hopefully, the Television Academy will streamline the nominating process and with the WB/UPN merger into CW network, we might actually see shows that truly deserve Emmy nominations actually get them.

Did SIX FEET UNDER win anything?
Personally, I'm over the emmys... done the camels back was broken this evening with Alan Ball not winning either writing/directing (Kudrow & grey's anatomy's snub didn't help either)

Guess everyone else has the same opinion as me.
Keifer, 24, Piven
The Office, Julia Louise Dreyfus
Shalub (again!), Megan Mullally, TAR in the family edition year
Danner (again!), Alda (he's got enough)
Alan Ball's Everybody's Waiting script not winning -- perhaps the best series finale ever.
Just realized that Mr & Mrs Warren Beatty are a combined 0-for-8 in acting awards at the Oscars and Emmys. Bet they're big Golden Globe fans.
Loved the opening, even if it was derivative of Billy Crystal. Loved how the look of the picture changed from series to series, just like they look on TV. Very cool.

Was I the only one who thought Hugh Laurie's presenter's skit was hilarious? The way Helen Mirren kept looking at him was priceless, and then trying to trip him up with big words.

Why the hatred for Shaloub? I'm a big fan of everyone else but Sheen that was nominated in the category (yes, even Kevin James, who I think is underrated), so Shaloub winning was fine for me.
Of course, there has to be some controversy. I hate hearing this shit. The plane crash bit was obviously a reference for Lost. Of course it's horrible that a plane crashed and people died, but this whole PC thing is just brutal. Would they also postpone Lost since it revolves around a plane crash, or is just the reference to one actually taking place in the present?
LOS ANGELES (AP) - It was meant to be funny. But a fake plane crash during the opening Emmy awards skit made many cringe on Sunday - the same day 49 people died in a fiery plane crash in Kentucky.
The skit, aired live at the start of NBC's Emmy telecast, brought a swift response from the general manager of NBC's Lexington, Ky., affiliate, WLEX. "It was a live telecast. We were completely helpless," Tim Gilbert was quoted as saying on the Lexington Herald-Leader's website.
"By the time we began to react, it was over. At the station, we were as horrified as they were at home," Gilbert said.
Criticism of the sequence also appeared on other websites Sunday night, including the Los Angeles Times, where television columnist Scott Collins called it "cringe-inducing" and "of questionable taste."
The prerecorded opening segment began with Emmy host Conan O'Brien boarding a private plane to Los Angeles. Asked by a stewardess if he was nervous about hosting the show, O'Brien answered "Nervous? What could possibly go wrong?"
The plane then shook and pitched violently, sending O'Brien out of his seat and seeking shelter in an overhead baggage compartment.
The skit didn't show the plane crashing. Instead, it cut to O'Brien emerging from the ocean onto an island resembling the one in Lost, where he meets a cast member.
Emmy show executive producer Ken Ehrlich declined comment when asked about criticism of the skit at the Governors Ball after the show.
The skit aired live on NBC just hours after a commuter jet in Kentucky crashed into a field and burst into flames, killing all aboard except a co-pilot.
Gilbert said he was home watching the Emmy show with his family when he was "stunned" by the Emmy skit. He said if he had known about it beforehand, Lexington viewers wouldn't have seen it.
Gilbert said he plans to ask NBC for an apology.
"They could have killed the opening and it wouldn't have hurt the show at all," Gilbert said. "We wish somebody had thought this through. It's somewhere between ignorance and incompetence."

"wouldn't of hurt the show at all" they say? It was a great 7 minute opening, just about the highlight of the evening for me.
