I really liked how they briefly showed other characters in this episode. The whores talking about Mrs. Ellsworth was a nice touch.

I also enjoyed the Jewel trying to give bacon and eggs to the guest scene.

I agree with Shannon that Olyphant's the weak link in the show. He doesn't ruin the show or anything. But in most of his scenes I find myself thinking about other more capable actors they could have gotten to play Bullock. Hes just out of his league with this material.

Loved this episode. Liked the scene with Al beating the crap out of that guy. Seemed like the camera was really low to the ground, giving it a very odd perspective.

I think Olyphant does a fine job. I can't imagine with the care that Milch takes in this series that Bullock isn't being portrayed as exactly as Milch wants him to be.

I agree. I think Olyphant is amazing in this role....his performance is actually one of my favorites on the show. I think the rage he can convey with one piercing glance is great. Somehow he is unrecognizeable to me in this role....when I look at Bullock I don't see Olyphant at all....and it's not like his appearance is that much changed for his character....but somehow he seems like a completely different person.

+ +

He's my favorite character not-named Al. He was missed this ep, imo. And Sol trying to talk shop to him at the table so as to calm him down was killing me.

I loved this ep, except when the acting troop ground it to a halt a few times. I don't mind when they Langrishe character interacts w/ Al or Hearst, but when he is dealing w/ the rest of the troupe I start to fucking yawn.

And I think Jane may have finally confused me at the end of the show - usually I can follow along, but she finally lost me.

Trixie telling Jewel that Alma at both plates after doing her cart-wheel and the ensuing reaction from the gimp were great. Those two characters are placed so perfectly throughout the show.

I love Johnny's continued rise to stardom in the Gem.

And Dan's explanation to Elsworth of the morning's events was the best part of the ep.

Why didn't they kill Farnum off earlier this season? If not before?

Anyone else notice that W. Earl Brown (Dan) wrote this episode?

Beat me to it.

Anyone know if he or any of the other cast members have written an episode before?

Ricky Jay wrote one during Season 1:

I didn't get the scene where Langrishe was explaining that a new girl would be sleeping in the theater to that brunette? Who was she?

Yeah, I usually don't get lost in any of the conversations on this show, but this week I didn't get what was going on with the acting troupe at all.... The conversation between Langrishe and the new girl went right over my head.
