Deadwood "A Two Headed Beast" 7/9/06

Spoiler:
Huzzah, Dan Dority. Huzzah.

Merkin Muffley 07-09-06 10:06 PM

So long, Captain ****face.

aktick 07-09-06 11:23 PM

One of the better fights I've seen in a while. :D

Stupid hot-headed Bullock. So what did Al have in mind that Bullock just eliminated?

Charlie Goose 07-09-06 11:31 PM

Ain't that just the way of it? Poke out a dude's eye, and he's got no fight left in him. I think Major Dad was actually missing the captain.

So much for the brokering of the deal for the livery.

I like Brian Cox, but whenever he or his acting troupe appears, the show stops dead.

slop101 07-10-06 12:09 AM

I didn't understand what was going on with Ellsworth and Alma - why did he reject her advances? Did he realize she was stoned? Even still, why would he ask to move out then and there?

Kiliing Hearst I think with the Captain out of the way. I think that's why he got himself arrested. Safest place is in jail.

spainlinx0 07-10-06 02:16 AM

I was extremely tense during that fight. It was excruciating to watch, and I was shocked that the Captain didn't win that one.

sven 07-10-06 04:57 AM

His eyeball AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Michael Ballack 07-10-06 06:15 AM

That was one of the most brutal fights I've ever seen. Great stuff. Sad to see the black stable owner shoot himself. Outstanding episode overall.

P.S. That one gentlemen is sure horny for the fat broads. :)

CPA-ESQ. 07-10-06 08:50 AM

Great Fight between Dan and the Captian!!!

Why in the world did the stable owner shoot himself? He had the Money, just jump on a horse and ride out of town.

He was a black man in the mid 19th centruy. He was called a liar, obviously one thing Hostetler could not stand to be called. Had he tried to attack Steve, he would have probably met a lynch mob on his way out of town. I guess he felt there was no other course of action as he could not convince Steve that was the board, could not beat him as he wanted. I found it odd myself.

Count me in on the confusion over the Elsworth/Alm exchange. Did he taste the dope on her breathe? Will she get help before Hearst takes advantage of her using?

Fielding Mellish 07-10-06 09:34 AM

After seeing an episode like last night's, let me just say four words:

Tony and Carmella Who?

Did he taste the dope on her breath?
That’s the impression I got.

Good call. And Hearst maintains his position - one step ahead of everyone else in the camp.

This show now has my wife riveted, and she wanted nothing to do with Deadwood’s first two seasons. I’d love to see if the show’s ratings have possibly improved this year over last’s.

Incredible episode. Things that I've been wanting to see for a while started to happen. Loved the fight and really liked the Elsworth/Alma scene...really awkward stuff. Bullock coming to get Hearst and there exchange was fucking classic.

I was behind an episode (although I've seen half of this one so far) and wanted to ask a question regarding last weeks. Since I assume no one will pay attention to the other thread, I'm asking it in here.

Last week Adams returned and was talking to Al. Adams said he had been looking for Wolcott(?) and Al said something about while they might have been friends he needed to stop looking. This confused me because I don't remember Wolcott ever being around Adams, and I thought Wolcott's demise was known by everybody (although I confess I don't remember for sure). Anyone care to fill me in on what that part was about?

sundog 07-10-06 10:42 AM

They were discussing Hawkeye, Adams' former partner whom Al does not like or trust.

Ah thanks. Now I remember, Adams said he was looking for the guy whose name Al said never to speak again. I guess I just assumed that was Wolcott for some reason. Looks like Hawkeye was only in a couple episodes so I don't feel so bad.

Cusm 07-10-06 11:38 AM

What are the odds Adams will really flip sides now that the Captain is gone and Hearst needs some muscle?

david12 07-10-06 01:12 PM

Adams isn't going to flip.

lukewarmwater 07-10-06 03:13 PM

he flipped before.

and as for the eye fight scene:

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

slop101 07-10-06 05:13 PM

Anyone got a screen-grab of the gouged eyeball? I think I need new wallpaper...

I took it that he tasted it and then looked carefully into her eyes and saw the glaze.

cross 07-10-06 11:21 PM

Could someone explain what's the deal with Steve and the board he signed?

Was this in previous episode?

Yeah, that was my take, too! She looked pretty f*cked up, so I think it was obvious to him. Ah well, his loss. Although, you have to admire his principles. She would've been hard to turn down... -other-

My reply got really long, so I stuck it on my new blog instead of taking up half a page here (not to self-advertise). Some folks said they found my thoughts on Deadwood insightful a couple of weeks ago. I've been trying to figure out what Hearst's deal was, and the short answer is, I think he's just fucking crazy.

For the long answer:

Your insights are brilliant.
