Well let's not make JD out to the pioneer of megaphone singing (I think Scott Weiland may have that honor).

As for Toby, he definitely seems eager to please, but I'll tell you, of everyone who has stood up in front of SN, he looked the most natural to me. Sounded right too.

nazz 08-31-06 03:40 PM

Yeah, I didn't mean to sound like JD invented it. It just seems cheesy to be doing that again on the same show already.

magiccmom 08-31-06 03:57 PM

The more I think about Ryan's performance..the more I agree with him leaving. It reeked of overkill and desperation...from the champagne, to the climbing on the amps, to the screeching.
I think Toby is just listening to what SN said it wants. They mentioned going to the back, Toby did...they mentioned smashing a guitar..I think Ryan did that...it's just giving them what they want. Can't blame him for that.

Big Boy Laroux 08-31-06 04:26 PM

yes, they are all pandering to what they think supernova wants. and it did not work for ryan. but as we have all said, he's just not right for their band, supernova.

I guess to some this is a good thing as it shows an extra level of professionalism, except to me it just reeks of 'fake spontaneity'. He is a talented singer and he seems like an all-around good guy so I don't wish him any ill will. He's just a little too polished for my tastes.

I think the exact opposite of Toby. He does plan a few things but he delivers everything so cool. I feel like he belongs there. Now with Storm, she just tries way too hard to come off the same way. She is CONSTANTLY begging for attention. Toby gets the attention but doesn't put in much effort.

To that person who said lukas is the only one who isn't a poser....HAHAHAHAHAH!!!
Yeah, eyeliner and skunk streaks is the most original thing I've ever seen. Take a look at half the bands from toronto and you'll see they all look like that.
I fucking laughed when I listened to Ryan's final words. Not because I thought they were ridiculous, but because he was totally just saying shit to rip on the band. You don't think he actually believed all that do you? HE's saying the shit to hype up his solo career. Believe it or not bands have made careers out of acting bigger than they are and hyping the egos. That might have been the smartest career move he's made. He's too good to front that shitty band. They only have star power going for them. I don't think one of them has put out anything remotely significant in the last ten years all because they were not the talent in their respective bands. Jason Newsted wasn't allowed to write, Gilby Clarke was Slash's second cab, and Tommy Lee is let's face it, not a talented drummer in the least. Solid maybe, but high school standard. This band will fail miserably.

Just found out INXS is playing here in November. I was addicted to the show last year, so I might check them out.

I never once said Lukas is original; I said he's the only one who doesn't come across as a poser. To me, it seems like he's the same person whether he's on stage, back at the house, or not on the show at all. The others seem like they're only playing the rocker part to win this particular contest, and that they turn their rock star modes on or off depending on when it's needed. It's like if Coldplay was in Supernova's place, they'd cover up their tattoos and bust out their acoustic guitars to show how sensitive and pensive they are.

Dismissing Storm's talents just because of her looks seems really unfair to me. She has more chops than many of the men left in the competition and she looks good at the same time. I would think men would admire a woman who can do it all. No wonder women are so confused now about what men want. ;)

We forgive the male contestants for being asses or for having a bad performance, but someone like Storm brings her all to every performance but then gets put down for being attractive.

I'd put her down for having no vocal range. That I could forgive if she'd just stay away from the songs that require more range than she has. Maybe justs stick to Ramones songs or something.

I really liked the part when they were talking a little bit about themselves and LukASS told how he worked at Hooters and "..did I mention this already, I really love beer!" What a suck-up!!!

The first time I saw the Lukas/Supernova performance of "It's On" I wasn't impressed but after rewatching it on Youtube, I think it's a really good track. Unlike the other 2 Supernova songs (utter crap in my opinion) I think this track could do really well on the charts.

Lukas really needs to enunciate more though so the words are understandable because the lyrics are actually pretty good:

LYRICS

It's On

I feel suspended
weightless
Going through the motions
Inside outside
Waiting for the cause
The desperate measures
I don't measure nothing
All the pain is left inside
With nowhere else to go

All of you fades out
Nothing changes
Come out from it all

Let it shine on
Lead me where the day is dawning
or where the light has gone

Let it shine on
You run and hide the dark inside
with what little light has left you less alone

The senses
Screaming from the benches
Looking forward
A lock to find it all
Looking through lenses
Nothing really cleansed
Range of visions grow a cloud of white
and all your faces
Darkened places
Come out come out from it all

Let it shine on
Lead me where the day is dawning
or where the light has gone

Let it shine on
You run and hide the dark inside
with what little light has let you rot inside

A lot has fade away
Learn to recognize that pain
To never make the same mistakes
You have made before

Nothing changes
Got to change this
It leads to wrong

Let it shine on
Lead me where the day is dawning
and all the light has gone

Let it shine on
You run and hide the dark inside
with what little love is left

You shine on
Just shine on
You run and hide the dark inside
with what little light has left you inside alone

After re-evaluating this newest track I'm gonna give Supernova a chance and consider buying their album.

While I know Toby is trying out for the band, someone needs to tell him that Brandon Flowers is alive and well. Terrible choice for Loukas. Storm again chooses a song with a limited range. Dilana makes a bold choice. Magni is attempting to coast.

But let's be honest. The coolest thing about this week is
Spoiler:
FIVE original songs!!

freshticles 09-04-06 12:12 PM

Man, those lukas lyrics are awful. Is there a rule somewhere that a dude in eyeliner has to mention his 'pain inside' somewhere in the song lyrics?

mllefoo 09-04-06 12:33 PM

His lawn is so emo it cuts itself. Lukas just reminds me of a goth boi who is trying too hard.

I don't like Loukas at all, but let's be accurate. Loukas did not write those - they were the bands lyrics.

If the band wants you to do something and they have the final say, you're probably better off doing it. It's the same stuff people are ragging on Storm for in this thread, but it seems to be working for her. I remember 4 or 5 weeks ago when Magni sang one of the many Bowie songs and he just stayed behind the mic, he got criticized for it. The guys in Supernova seem to love it anytime one of them goes into the crowd no matter how many times it's been done, so I can't blame them for doing it.

I just caught up on the last 2 weeks. Wow, that last elimination show was awful. I didn't really care which one they eliminated after that. I really hope they lose Dilana or Loukas before the final. Both would be a miracle, but I'd settle for one. I can't stand that raspy, froggy style they both have. I liked Loukas doing Rebel Yell and Creep, but that's it. I haven't liked any of Dilana's performances.

movieking 09-05-06 08:07 AM

The Inside the House episode was all about songwriting, and it seems that Dilana was once again rated as the worst writer amongst them all. Gilby didn't seem to care for Magni either, but I really think that he has to be given some slack because of the language barrier.

Topless Storm jumping in the pool

Damn censors!

Yeah, but to me... the band criticizing your performance and next time you make changes based on their comments, that's fine. What bugs me is when the band makes a specific comment about one performance, like "you should've smashed the guitar", and then whoever has the next performance up smashes their guitar and they're priased for it like they're some sort of geniuses. I know this sort of thing isn't limited to Toby, but it still bugs me. It just screams "sucking up" to the band, which I know is the basic point of the show but it doesn't have to be so on-the-nose.

LordofWar 09-05-06 09:02 PM

Toby was the only one that entertained me tonight. Storm is such a wannabe.

nazz 09-05-06 09:44 PM

I'm surprised to find myself saying that Storm tore it up tonight. My expectations were not high but she delivered on the cover and more shockingly on the original.

magiccmom 09-05-06 09:58 PM

I dont think anybody beats Toby's natural energy onstage. I agree about how much fun he makes the performances. I couldnt understand Lucas lyrics..but I didnt like him tonight. And Dilana has fallen from grace. She went from seeminly a good fit for the band, to looking so out of place there. And what a burn by the house band..did you see the look she gave them? Storm enjoys everyones performance..while Lucas and Dilana seemed pissed if someone is doing well.
