The looks on Gilby and Jason's faces during Lukas were hilarious.

And he still didn't open up his voice...he's going downhill fast, IMO.

Jill was so bad, wow.

Dilana is the only girl worth watching.

Toby didn't do much for me either...him and Lukas were probably the favorites after the first couple shows, but have really faltered of late.

There is really no front-runner now. There are a few pretty good people, and a whole pile of crap.

Oops.. the Suede song was all I could think of when i heard the song titles.

BDLOU 08-01-06 10:15 PM

As soon as Zayra, Patrice, Jill, and Josh(good singer but not right for the band, Supernova) go, we will have an actual competition. There are 3 groups for the rest.

Getting Better
--------------
Ryan
Dana

Getting Old Fast
------------------
Lucas
Dilana

Holding Steady
---------------
Toby
Magni
Storm

It will be interesting to see where they all go from here. Hopefully they will get rid of two singers tomorrow to save us the agony. Jill and Zayra need to go NOW!

Yeah Lukas was disappointing. That is an awesome song and he remembered probably 1/10 of the words.

magiccmom 08-01-06 10:27 PM

Loved Ryan and Magni tonight. Thought Storm was really good, so was Josh. Dilana is a great rocker and very entertaining..she is authentic to me, but I dont think she can front that band. Jill was awful and Zayra is a JOKE, but they practically told her they will keep her around . If Jill and Zayra end up in the bottom 3, Jill will go home so they can continue to laugh at Zayra. I thought the same thing about Lukas, singing with his back to the audience, it was really strange. Toby was too safe tonight. Dana isnt the worst, but she is predictable.

mllefoo 08-01-06 11:30 PM

Zayra was painful in a jabbing a fork through my brain kind of way. My god.

I absolutely agree. I thought it was his Mr. Brightside - a song that catapults him into the elite of the competitors.

A PERFECT comeback for her would've been "So I guess the Chili Peppers are letting you come back?"

LET him come back? Dave never WANTED to be in the Chili Peppers. They asked him and he repeatedly declined. They finally confronted him at a jam session in L.A. and he finally agreed to do it since they're all friends (Flea played trumpet on JA's first studio record). He pretty much did it as a favor. They agreed to split after OHM, he was not kicked out.

I don't understand the bashing of someone who was part of Jane's Addiction when the likes of Nickelback and Hoobastank are out there running rampant. Dave gets a free pass for the rest of his career as far as I'm concerned after Nothing's Shocking and Ritual de lo Habitual. I like RHCP just fine, but I'd put those albums up against any two albums the Peppers made. Any day.

Big Boy Laroux 08-02-06 09:46 AM

Toby, Jill, and Zayra were in the early bottom 3. replace Toby with Lukas, and I agree with it (although Toby wasn't great or anything). but i think Lukas has enough supporters to avoid the bottom 3. so that third spot is up in the air for me.

Lukas was boring, and just plain WEIRD. 80% of the song was spent with his back to the audience.

Ryan absolutely KILLED it. I haven't really liked anything the guy has done so far (and he's pretty dull in the reality episodes), but that really was VERY good. but where did the strings come from? was that just piped in, or were there other players there we couldn't see?

Zayra was an absolute JOKE. the fact that the guys had to cut to commercial because they couldn't think of what to say was hilarious. but you know, i could definitely see her sticking around past Jill. keep zayra for one more hilarity-filled go-round.

Jill - Gilby hit it on the head, she definitely oversang it. that was bad. i wanted to cover my ears. and her stage antics were horrible again. here's a little fist pump! high-five the crowd! i can be a rocker!

Dana wasn't bad, but come on, no way she wins this. "i'm getting a tattoo tomorrow! i'm a rebel!"

Dilana was entertaining. i actually liked it when she opened up into that higher register. who the hell was the guy that gave her a ride on his shoulders? that was pretty funny.

Josh was actually very entertaining. the beat-box could have come off as a joke, but he pulled it off. aside from the flub at the beginning, solid performance. but he won't win this. the fact that he turned down "higher ground" because he'd do it stevie wonder style shows exactly why. he's a good singer, but not right for the band.

Magni didn't wow me or anything. decent performance.

Same with Storm. It was good, but i didn't think it was worthy of all the praise it got.

BDLOU 08-02-06 10:22 AM

I'm calling it now. Jill AND Zayra go home tonight. They need to speed this up.

Actually, it'll come down to these two and they'll send Jill home hoping to see Zayra one more time. The Jill will swallow Zayra whole with her gigantic mouth and argue she should stay now but the original decision stands. So, you're right, but not because of Supernova.

DRG 08-02-06 10:27 AM

Okay, after the fact...

Patrice - Pretty decent. It wasn't a wow moment, but I thought she did a decent job of hanging with Tommy out there. I love the spiked up hair.

Dilana - Great stage performance, although I thought vocally she was just good.

Josh - Didn't sound bad at all. He probably has little chance of actually fronting Supernova, though, as the stuff he's good at is way more laid-back.

Zayra - Terrible, but not as painful as some of her past jobs. Her revamp of the music actually worked well. I think the new arrangement made her vocals a *little* more palatable here, as I wasn't trying to compare it to the previous version. Her singing still sucks but at least she put on an entertaining show here.

Jill - Awful. A completely generic rearrangement of the song. She somehow took the life out of the song by overrocking it.

Ryan - Well, I called that one wrong. This was superb. He really rose to the occasion and made this song engaging for me, which is a shock. He needs to bring that same passion, that obvious joy of performing, to his heavier performances.

Lukas - Not good. It just felt like he wasn't trying. He might've had a chance to cover up his weak vocal performance with his stage performance, but he showed a lack of energy tonight. He just looked defeated for some reason.

Magni - As I said before, I hate Coldplay, this song in particular. I watched enought o think he was doing a decent job. But I had to fast forward the rest.

Toby - Sort of a blah performance for me. I couldn't find anythng wrong with it, but THIS is the one that put me to sleep.

Storm - Another one that was technically okay but it just didn't register as anythign special to me.

Dana - She's finally starting to 'get it' IMO. But that's probably still not enough to make her ready for this gig.

rkndkn 08-02-06 12:55 PM

Ryan should get the encore tonight -- that was excellent! When he hit that long note, the look on Toby's face was priceless -- like OMG, Ryan might be a contender after all.

I'm also thinking a double elimination tonight of Jill and Zayra. Good riddance, especially to the latter.

Chrisedge 08-02-06 01:02 PM

I actually thought Zayra did an interesting take on Tommy Tutone. In a complete car crash kind of way, but I was entertained.

I know she's terrible...but

This isn't really directed at your quote, DRG, but I think that statement kinda sums up the point I want to comment on. I can't stand seeing Dana perform. She drives me insane. Yes, she's a good singer, but she's terrible for this. Last night, I felt like it was the encore of some Country concert where she does the wild "Rock n Roll" song to show her audience how Rebel she is. The week with Nirvana "About A Girl" it felt like she decided to play dress up, but on some dark eyeliner and look and sing "scary" - like a 14-year-old slumber party or something. And of course her rediculous comments like (paraphrasing) "I'm going to get a tatoo," "I'm wearing combat boots and everything," etc, etc.

Now, I know everyone hear hates Zayara and thinks she needs to go. Is that why Dana's getting a pass for now from you guys? I'm kind on the Supernova side of the fence: Zayara's obviously not right and a terrible singer, but she does provide the WTF entertainment for the night.

I would buy that they think Dana is "cute" with her silly wannabe rocker attitude, but the fact that they keep saying, "Hey. Good job. You're improving. You're showing signs." bugs me.

I'm really not that crazy about anybody on this show, but I just expect Dana to get a lot more criticism out here than she seems to get right now.

This would not surprise me at all.

Cory02 08-02-06 06:34 PM

I think the guys might keep Zayra around just to see what weird shit she comes up with next week.

The competition might end up being pretty close. Ryan had an excellent performance to make up for all this previously forgettable efforts. Lukas was just awful. He looked like a totally different person and his vocals get old after a while. Storm did a great job, especially when you compare it to her previous, high energy performances.

Patman 08-02-06 07:46 PM

Well, the voters took that choice out of 3/4 Supernova out of their hands. Zayra survives!

potvin48 08-02-06 09:42 PM

So, my DVR missed the last 10 minutes, who got the boot?

I find Zayra more entertaining than most of the remaining performers. That superhero outfit? OMG!!! Go Zayra!!!

deadlax 08-03-06 01:19 AM

I like Zayra, and enjoy her voice. I still think she sounds a lot like a cross between Bjork and the singer for the Cranberries. If she put out a rock/indie album i'd listen to it at least once.

My theory is that Zayra is trying to see how far she can go and not get booted. I think she might be sleeping with Newstead.
