That full minute of silence while Tommy was assessing the situation (and getting more and more insane) was incredible. Between that and the 27 seconds of silence between Pam and Jim on The Office (Boat Cruise) it just goes to show how key a lack of yammering can be to a good show.

Garrity eating Maggie's cherry elicited a chuckle from me right away.

Gil - I also love how they took their time after the reveal and muted the surrounding conversations. Very well done.

OMG!!! Great show, how did HBO miss this one?

I do not know if this has been asked yet, but who sings the theme song?

I liked how Maggie would go from 'Wanna make out?' mode to 'I'll slit your throat' mode in a heartbeat. She really is insane.

Tommy's wife gets less and less likeable every ep. She hates him, but jumps over to his brother? Its not like they're that different.

Sheila may be a psycho, but she and Tommy do make a good couple (although still dysfunctional).

Von Bondies. I wasn't aware of this but Rescue Me has a soundtrack cd out. I was thinking about picking it up. They always close the show with great songs.

Agreed that this was an awesome episode - Tommy and the tape was great.

Also, some hilarious spots for It's Always Sunny... "Vietnam...get me a beer, bitch!"

Sheila is pretty much the most sympathetic character on the show. She's been treated like shit by pretty much everyone: Used and abused. Plus she's fantastically trashy.

Plus having Sheila call Tommy on all his lying tics was pretty funny at the beginning when he feigns knowledge of Mrs. Turbity.

And I will say this again, she has the best tv sex of anyone ever! Between this and The Wire - better than any softcore porn and beats some hardcore.

Did Charles Durning have a stroke? I know he's very old, but he seems to have aged signifacantly this year.

Good show, but it seems like sometimes it wants to be a 1 hour sitcom.

I liked the exchange between Tommy and Sheila where she catches him lying and says how well she knows him and all his ticks.

The song was on MVP 2005. I played that game so much that I got real sick of that song. then I started Rescue Me and was like christ this song won't go away.

How much would it have cost to get Aretha Franklin's "Rescue Me" for the opening theme song? Of course, the look and feel of the show probably doesn't lend itself as well to Franklin's song.

There is NO sitcom I have ever seen that has the dramatic depth of Rescue Me.
The show's hilarious, but there are innumerable scenes that are as gut-wrenching as the other scenes are funny.

Un-freakin-believable episode!! This show just gets better and better. It's got to the point now where Tuesday is now my favorite day of the week.

Someone give these people some emmys

This may be approaching on my favorite show of all-time.

I second that, it's in my #2 slot only rivaled by Six Feet Under. What a phenomenal show.

I'm glad they didn't drag out the "Tommy doesn't know" aspect, and Johnny definately had it coming to him. When Tommy threw him over the table onto the floor, I applauded. Oh man tensions will be high next tuesday!

Yeah that party scene was incredible. Watching Leary sit there in silence and let his emotions pile up inside of him was just incredible to watch.

Also, anyone else think we will see Tommy's Dad die this season. He's looking very feable, much moreso than last season. I got a little choked up at the end when everyone poured outside after the fight and they cut to Tommy's dad sitting by himself eating cake. I could just feel his pain knowing that he isnt going to be around much longer and watching his family tear itself apart.

I liked how Tommy's Dad was still eating his birthday cake all by himself when everyone else was outside fighting. Great stuff.

I loved the muting of all sound, like a grenade went off too close to Tommy.

The silence when Tommy discovers his ex and brother holding hands was a great touch. It takes the viewer inside Tommy's head when he has this moment thats so intense that it blocks everything else out. Plus there's the added suspense of knowing Tommy is going to do something but not knowing exactly what. The song at the end was even perfect.

What a fantastic episode. Sheila had some great moments:

"And people call me a whore.
.
.
.
.
.
.
well, they do."

that was a great line and the way she delivered it too, too bad they used it in the preview. Tommy had every right to go off on Johnny...unbelievable moment and i think a turing point for tommy. i just hope he keeps resisting the bottle. he has surprised me so far.

great series...see my appreciation thread to post your love.
