the Sopranos -- "the Ride" -- 05.07.2006

"the Ride"

Christopher makes a surprise announcement; Paulie pays a price for cutting costs at an Italian Street Fair; Tony embraces the "old school."

Hard to believe we're more than 2/3 of the way in. It went by so fast..

I haven't watched the last two episodes. Am I going to be lost if I watch tonights episode? I predict that like most of the shows nothing has happenned except introduce new sub plots with no conclusions. I am a big fan but have gotten turned off with last season and so far episodes of this season.

Did I mistake this week's episode instead for Dr. Phil? WTF? Emotions and kindness.....one of the weirdest episodes I've seen so far.

Yes it was odd. The only thing that really perked my interest is when Phil was sending his guy to RI. Isn't that where Vito is?

I loved the flashback to Chris telling Tony about Adrianna. It's something I never thought we would see, and wondered how it went down (I didn't think Chris would have as much trouble with it as he did). The rest I didn't really care for. Bobby's acting might be worse than AJ's.

Vito's in NH. And where was the reference to sending someone to RI?

Nice to finally see the scene of Chris telling Tony about Adrianna and the feds; I'm pretty sure that was shot about two years ago as part of season five but didn't get used for pacing reasons. Aside from that, I didn't really care for tonight's ep., it just seemed too overdone in the emotional area. I hope Paulie gets whacked, he's becoming a burden to everyone.

Did anyone else recognize Hugh the Borg as the young Puerto Rican priest?

Not bad, but not very compelling, either - I kept getting the feeling that I might become bored at any minute.

That's another thing. For most of this season, even in the episodes I really enjoyed (the last 3 have been sub-par, in my opinion), I've found myself looking at the clock and wondering how the episode isn't over yet. It's just been dragging (again, in my opinion).

Wow impressive you recongized him from the Borg shot. He was also playing a tranny on Nip/Tuck which is why he looked familiar to me, but he was also on last season of 24, although for the life of me I can't remember his part.

Weird episode tonight - but enjoyed it. I liked the change of pace and the ending with Paulie and his mom was satisfying. I hope that Tony and Christopher keep up with the 'old school' hijinks -- they've been missing the fun involved in that.

I thought this ep sucked. The last 3 have gotten progressively worse.

I keep waiting for something to happen that looks like it may set up the series finale but nothing yet.

Thank you. It was driving me crazy that I couldn't remember where I had seen him before.

At the carnival. He was mentioning to Phil they had some vitamin heist but had to do it "tonight." because the troopers were all over it. Tony said they'd split 50/50 so to take it somewhere like RI. Now that you mention NH it is probably not relevant.

The important part of this discussion is the fact that they decided to cut Johnny Sack out of the loop (and therefore profits) on this heist. That one little exchange set up a lot. Between this and the constant remarks about Johnny crying, it looks like Phil is positioning himself to take over for Johnny. And Tony seems to tacitly agree.

I thought I was going to get to point that out.
