The problem with Lost being broken up is that it's a serial. House and CSI, for instance, and highly episodic (though House has background stories going on, they rarely take the foreground). Lost, on the other hand, it's way more annoying since theres really very little closure in every episode.

It needs to just go on like 24, dammit. (4 eps - 1 ep - 1 ep - 1 ep- 1 ep - 1 ep - 1 ep - 2 eps - 1 ep... so on and so forth)

ABC is destroying its new found life. And this is almost the lineup it should have been from the get go (8p Alias, 9p Lost, 10p Invasion).

Fucking ABC. So this is, what, 6 clip shows for their 3 major series in under 4 months?

I'm finding it humorous how you people are more upset that it's a clip show than you would be if it were a repeat!

It's because it just shows that they know the scheduling is lame for a serial show.

They know they show it so fucking sporadically that they have to have a couple clip shows per season so people know what the fucks going on when it comes back.

How far has the story advanced this season?
Quite a bit, I think.

...there were no tailies
...the hatch was just a door in the dirt
...the others were just a few pirates we saw on a boat once

Everything we know about the above came from this season

Spoiler:
1. House
2. CSI
3. Lost
Comparing Lost to House or CSI is pretty stupid, as there are hardly any long-term storylines in House and CSI, whereas Lost is all about the long storylines.

The problem is (with the exception of the others) most of those revelations were in the premiere or the first 2 or 3 episodes.

And all together probably 4 or 5 eps have answered those questions, while the rest have just stalled.

I think it's a nasty tactic. It is pretty much a wash for the casual viewer. Some people will be happy they can get caught up quickly. Others will be upset that they remembered to tune in and got this.

It's the hardcore fan these things screw. Many will feel the need to watch to see if the arrangement of the clips hold some sort of clue to where we're going. Others will suspect they'll show us something very important.

As for me, I plan on recording and then reading anything I see online that evaulates the importance of the clip show. If it's just stuff I have seen, I'll kill it without watching.

And just like you tell your TIVO not to tape repeats, so can you not this episode.

I thought the clip show was interesting in it's reach (from day one on). It's clear what the producers want us to concentrate on - faith vs. science. That will be the central theme for the remainder of the season.

I hated the fact it was a clip show, but I must say if it wasn't for a clip show I would never have caught on to Lost. So chalk up as a show for the new viewers. Off to watch Bones.

I'm surprised this hasn't lost more viewers over the season kinda like Commander in Chief.
It's losing viewers...
New Lost Hits New Low
Wednesday's installment of Lost — unofficially titled "The One with Rose, Bernard and Three Minutes of Actual Story Progression" — drew 15.7 million total viewers, the series' lowest ratings for a new episode this season. Electromagnetic impulses can't heal wounded Nielsens?

Definitely agree. Though, Lost is all about long storylines that demand you pay attention to the little nuances to fully enjoy the show (or at the very least, read the threads here ).

A thread that has nothing to do with the episode. *sigh* And I was going to point out some interesting things from this epi that haven't been discussed before.

Please, tell me what option you can set on a TiVo that will automatically detect and ignore clip shows.

goofee girl, your post seems to indicate that there was new material in this episode. Please elaborate?

Ok, what would be a better comparison? Second season of Buffy?

5 episodes - 1 week off - 5 episodes - 1 week off - 1 episode - 4 weeks off - 4 episodes (in 3 weeks) - 1 week off - 1 episode - 1 week off - 2 episodes - 6 weeks off - 4 episodes

Second season of X-files?

6 episodes - 1 week off - 3 episodes - 2 weeks off - 2 episodes - 2 weeks off - 2 episodes - 1 week off - 5 episodes - 1 week off - 1 episode - 2 weeks off - 1 episode - 1 week off - 1 episode - 1 week off - 4 episodes

Second season of West Wing?

2 episodes (same night) - 1 week off - 7 episodes - 2 weeks off - 1 episode - 2 weeks off - 1 episode - 1 week off - 1 episode - 1 week off - 4 episodes - 1 week off - 1 episode - 2 weeks off - 1 episode - 2 weeks off - 4 episodes

And here's this season of Lost again...

5 episodes - 2 weeks off - 4 episodes - 5 weeks off - 3 episodes - 1 week off - 2 episodes - 1 week off - 1 episode - 2 weeks off - 4 episodes - 2 weeks off - 4 episodes

I'll be the first to admit the scheduling for Lost gets under my skin, but what's actually stupid is to think it's anything but the norm with network television shows.

You know a shows in trouble when they have to do a recap show to get everyone back up to speed. This show has one season at best at the rate their going.

No new material. Just some things that I don't remember being mentioned before. Not an issue since people don't want to talk about the epi now.

Umm, no. They're not trying to get current viewers up to speed.

They're trying to entice new viewers (who are otherwise hesitant scared to jump in mid-story) to join the bandwagon in time for guess what.... May sweeps.

Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy do the exact same thing... both had recap shows last Sunday.

First through third seasons of 24 would be more appropirate.

24 had some huge breaks in those first 3 seasons. I seem to remember a few month long breaks. Either way this thread is wasting my time.

As I already said, consecutive airings just makes the inbetween-seaons hiatus MUCH longer. That is NOT a problem for 24 with its isolated storylines. It IS a problem for Lost with storylines that carryover each year.

Fine, so just have a single recap show before the season officially starts to catch everyone up and then go 24-style. That is much better than the current model.
