Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell on 'Prison Break'

LOS ANGELES -- The convicts of "Prison Break" are having their time extended -- and in the world of television, that's a good thing.

FOX has picked up the buzzworthy series for next year, meaning fans will probably get to see the event of the title actually happen. The decision isn't a big surprise, as "Prison Break" earned solid ratings in the fall and has improved on that performance since its return earlier this month.

The bump in ratings has come after a long hiatus in which viewers were left hanging as to the outcome of Michael Scofield's (Wentworth Miller) initial attempt to break out his death-row inmate brother (Dominic Purcell). Because of FOX's heavy midseason slate, led by "American Idol" and "24," the network had to leave "Prison Break" on the shelf for nearly four months.

Both episodes since its return have drawn more than 10 million viewers, an improvement on the show's season average of 9.38 million. "Prison Break" is also averaging a fairly healthy 4.4 rating among adults 18-49 since its return, a big improvement over FOX's season average for Mondays at 8.



The pickup also puts the network's drama roster in fairly good shape for next season. "House," "24" and "Bones" have already earned spots on the 2006-07 schedule; a decision has yet to be made on a fourth year for "The O.C."

yeah.. but let's say the show gets exteneded for 4 more years... How long can they do the guy breaking out of prison thing? They are already on the 2nd route out of the prison...

It would be like 24 being in hour 14 and then deciding to extend the season... They can only stretch out things so long

Yep - this would have been a perfect miniseries.

I heard that the Producers and FOX are discussing a "possible" season 3. How they would do it, I have no clue. Wentworth Miller said in the recent Entertainment Weekly that after the conspiracy is resolved, the show should end and I totally agree with him.

It's obvious this is headed into a "Fugitive" type show once they escape, but who's to say it won't take a few seasons to finally figure out the conspiracy? ..There's obviously a lot that they can do (and stuff than can go wrong, close calls, etc) while they're on the run, but obviously that can only go so far (plus the conspiracy) stuff before it gets totally stupid..

They already said it in the post. By the end of the season it will be out of the prison. After that it'll be a Fugative sort of thing where the cast is running away from the law. A sort of mad mad mad world type of adventure. I think they can atleast take it for three seasons without much thought.

Xfiles ran for 9 years..and I still havent figured out the conspiracy..

I hope OC makes it heh.

hahahah that's quite true .. but this is a bit more realistic (although a lot would never go on..but there's no aliens..)
