I am sad, but I don't feel like it ended on an "unfinished" note. If Hurwitz is going, best it not continue and become like "Moonlighting" Season 6 or something.... We had a good run, 2.5 seasons of greatness.

Well, like everyone else, I want 8 trillion episodes of AD, all of them at the highest level of quality. But that's not possible, and I would rather see it go out at the top of its game.
Hopefully, Hurwitz is hard at work developing his next show, and hopefully, that one will actually catch on with the public (only to suffer a precipitous decline in quality and be taken over by John Wells in later seasons. Wait, that's not right).

I don't get Hurwitz's position. If Fox had given a full commitment this season, he would have done 9 more episodes which is 3less than what Showtime would have committed to for the fourth season. Is Hurwitz admitting that any further shows done on Fox for the third season would have been lousy? In essence, Fox did the right thing by pulling the plug? Doesn't make sense to me. I wonder if Hurwitz felt that he was not being compensated enough under the Showtime deal, and that's why he nixed the offer. If he really felt that he could not have done a 12 episode fourth season, he would have known from the beginning.

What I want to know is what happened to Steve Holt? Did he ever find that hand in the park?

and there may be some validity to the final line of the show:

Hurwitz said he had briefed most of the show's cast and writers about his decision. He said executive producer Ron Howard asked him to consider serving as a consultant on the show if 20th Century Fox and Imagine figured out a way to continue it without him.
"I said I'd be happy to do that, but that as showrunner, I've gone as far as I can go," he told Variety."

Despite his defection from the show, Hurwitz left fans with one final straw to grasp, hinting to Variety that he may still be interested in adapting the series to the big screen.
