Interesting format...I like that they are trying something different. I also like the UFC on demand stuff. I especially like the part about the training regimes and behind the scenes content.

Ummm.... wasn't Nick Diaz the Grade-A Asshole who railed against Diego for taking part in the "contrived" Ultimate Fighter show? God I hate that guy, I hope he gets his ass kicked in fight 1 and we never have to see his cocky, overrated ass again.

Nick Diaz in my opinion is underrated. He is cocky, talks alot of smack, curses non stop in interviews and sounds like he comes from a messed up family but he surely has skills in the ring. He isnt a chump that just talks he walks the walk when it comes down to it. He lost to Joe riggs by a close decision and in the hospital he started a fight with Joe riggs while Joe Riggs was laying in the stretcher with IV in his arms. This was confirmed by various sources after they fought

Reading around the MMA forums, the Hackney casting seems to be wrong. His name got thrown in the mix because Gideon Ray is part of his gym. He's gotta' be waaayyyy to old to compete.
I agree Nick Diaz is a good fighter, a great smack talker, but he's a little clueless. He's lost all of his recent fights because he lacked aggression and didnt push very hard, yet from his post-fight interviews he doesnt seem to understand or be aware that he is too laid back and not persistent enough. For instance, he said his takedown stuffing against Sean Sherk and his shrugged off sub attmepts with Sanchez should have won him those fights. Thats almost like a boxer saying, "I blocked all his jabs. Why didn't I win?"

I really don't get the Diaz love here, but I've only known of him from about 2 fights before he lost to Diego at the UFN. I always hear about his unlimited potential, but all I ever see is a very skilled guy that is freaking amazing at blocking takedowns and defense. I'm still unclear as to how he would win fights unless he gets lucky from beneath someone's guard and grabs a submission. I don't think I've ever seen him actually on top of a guard position and the shit he talked before AND AFTER he lost to Diego (cleanly in my opinion) was ridiculous. Next time I hope somebody knocks his ass out just so I can hear an all-time great excuse as to why he was knocked unconcious.

I just heard a rumor that Diaz was at his regular training camp earlier in the week (Ceaser Gracie), so that must mean he was either eliminated right away or, more likely, not on the show at all.

Figured I would bump after last night's episode. Last night was the anticipated debut of the wrestler Matt. He won the fight, but to my surprise he didn't use any of his wrestling ability. Apparently he was threatened by his opponents Ju-jitsu skills. Overall it was a pretty enjoyable fight, but both fighters looked pretty winded after the first round. If Matt's punch had some zing on them, it would have been a stoppage.
It looks like he has the raw skills but I'm not sure he is battle tested enough to win the whole thing. He had to do to the ER after last night's fight.

That was a sloppy fight. If Mike had listened to what Shamrock was shouting for the entire ten minutes and thrown the knee or high kick, he might've been able to take him. Matt was lowering his unprotected face the whole time. Instead, Mike covered his head with his hands, turned his back, and actually fucking ran away. So much for being "ferocious" like he claimed. They were landing some good punches though.
And Ortiz vs. Shamrock is definitely on ppv. I was hoping it would be on TUF finale.

Agree with goose. I think if Mike listened a tad more (easy to do when you're not in the ring getting punched I know) he might have been able to pull it out.
At one time I thought Matt was going to go down, and obviously Mike was close a few times.
Pretty raw, sloppy fight, but still intertaining. I can't see Matt winning if that's the best he can do. I know he didn't wrestle, but he didn't seem to have the killer instinct to me you need. Will be interesting to see if he comes back or not. I'm sure he will but wouldn't mind him bowing out and giving Mike another chance.. although he's prob to beatup to come back so fast.
That Ortiz PPV, looks good with 2 big card matches. I think it will have to be my first MMA PPV in like forever.
Curious to see how the semis work. Will stink if Shamrock's guys have to fight one another right away. Maybe a redraft or something, however that wouldn't make sense either.

Matt isn't going to win this. They built him up so much, that seeing him actually fight was a bit of a let down. I understand he wanted to stand wth Mike, but Mike gave Matt his back on the ground like 3 times. I'm new to this sport, but couldn't he have even tried to apply a rear choke to end the fight sooner? I guess it all depends on how messed up his arm was.
I want to see Bisbing <sp> win this, and I hope he has to go through Matt to do it.

I'm tempted, but I know for some fights, even the cheap seats, ain't so cheap. Also, anyone who has been to a UFC fight live, do they put up screens showing the fight so people in the nosebleed seats can see what's going on?
Thanks.

Matt had so many opportunities to sink in the hooks and take his back but never did. A broken arm wouldnt affect you in taking someones back. That stand up between them 2 was one of the sloppiest I have ever seen. For Mike to say hes some crazy Street fighter fighting multiple people at one time was funny. He probably meant sesame street with his *put your head down and swing wildly* style. What a joke. Sometimes I feel that the more you talk the more pressure you put on yourself when fight time comes. Its like giving yourself an ulcer you dont need. Matt wont make it its obvious from last nights fight

I think that the producers of the show encourage smack-talking to keep the soap-opera type atmosphere. I couldn't believe Mike could not punch Matt in the head, Matt's hands were down the whole second round. Yes, Mike should have listened to what Ken was shouting to him the entire time. The strange thing about that is that Matt couldn't hear what Ken was coaching Mike to do and adjust but Mike still didn't do what Ken was saying.

I think if Matt's arm was really hurt as bad as he said it was, and it's not that he was scared to take Mike down, then he fought decently. Both guys were taking decent amount of punches to the head.

Matt not being able to hear is a big problem considering the great corner he has ,but he cannot hear any instructions during the fight. I still cant get that image out of my head where Mike looks at the floor with his eyes closed and swings wildly. I guess Tattoos dont make you tough and being a TOUGH street fighter on sesame street didnt help him.

Well, Mike is 34, and I am guessing just recently (maybe last few years) started fighting...You could tell as soon as he got in the Octagon that he didnt have very many skills. Im wondering though, is there something else wrong with Matt, or he just cant take the effects of fighting MMA? You would think that someone who is a world class wrestler would be in a little better shape, but I'm thinking its more than not being able to take a punch. I guess we will see.

I have no idea.
