I was a little on the fence on springing for the $40, but after watching the season I pretty much have to. I hope it's at LEAST a decent fight and not over in 30 seconds flat... I fear for Shamrock.

Elvis Sinosic vs Tito Ortiz, The fight got stopped way to early because of a weak cut on Sinosic's forehead.

Leben Florian is a great example of a guy dominating only to get stopped by a cut from a elbow.

Those are 2 off of the top of my head stopped directly from elbow cuts. I have seen way too many fights that have cuts caused by elbows. Honestly I wouldn't mind if they wore some kind of an elbow padding. And I won't even bother with the myriad of illegal downward elbows that are used in fights.

Watch pretty much any Matt Hughes, Tito Ortiz, Randy Cotoure and any other wrestler fight, they all fight in a similar way, Take down, pin against fence, Throw elbows and try to cut them.

Some Other fights stopped on cuts, not all were caused by elbows.

Evan Tanner v Elvis Sinosic (36)
Matt Hughes v Gil Castillo (40)
Pedro Rizzo v Tre Telligman (43)
Cabbage v Tank Abbot (45)
Vitor Belfort v Randy Cotoure 2 (46)
Joe Riggs v Chris Lytle (55)
Melvin Guillard Marcus Davis (Ult Fighter 2 Finale)
Evan Tanner v David Loiseau (UFN2)
Jonathan Goulet v Jay Hieron (Ufn2)

I am working tonight, but during my dinner break, I decided to order the PPV and record it for when I get home. Well, I was shocked that my cable provider wouldn't let me. A message came on saying it was too early to do order the event. This was at about 6:30 p.m. with the event starting at 9 p.m. Is this customary? How late do you have to wait to order? And it certainly sucks for those of us who have to work and can't be there to set the DVR. I guess I'll try to get home by midnight when there is a second showing ...

uteotw 07-08-06 10:55 PM

You have GOT to be kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a )!@#*(!@)* joke. 1 minute 18 seconds. A few elbows in a row and he STOPS the entire fight?!? OK, so Shamrock didn't look great, but it was just getting started. What a ripoff and complete letdown.

P.S. I guess tonight's first fight was a somewhat decent example of a fight being stopped due to 18 gallons of blood covering the guy's entire head and half the mat!

I didn't pony up the dough for this, but are you saying that the most dangerous man in the world got his ass kicked in just over a minute? I just saw the show on his training regimen. Shamrock was babbling about training his heart muscle to go three five minute rounds. If he knew it would only last 78 seconds, he probably would have laid off of the training and had more twinkies.

zuffy 07-09-06 09:43 AM

I didn't order the ppv nor watch it yet. The highlight of the pvv though was the Dana White's announcement of Wandy Silva vs Chuck Liddell in Nov :jawdrop: I hope this will happen, Pride champion vs UFC champion, but the scheduling doesn't seem right. Silva has the OWGP in Oct and Liddell is fighting Babalu in UFC 62, 8/26.

That was the worst UFC in a while...I mean the Shamrock/Ortiz fight was pretty much what I expcted and the fact is if the ref wouldnt have stopped it, Ortiz would still be dropping elbows on him, but the Arlovski/Sylvia fight was worse than an amateur boxing match. The UFC needs to do something about their suck-ass heavyweights. Why doesnt White go get Cro-Cop or Fedor, because watching the heavys fight in UFC is about like watching paint dry.

1. Because the UFC doesn’t pay like Pride

2. Fedor or Cro would easily run through and embarrass the UFC HW's.

zuffy 07-09-06 12:34 PM

Crocop to UFC = instant HW champion.

For those who haven't seen the Main Event here it is:

The only real highlight of the night had to be the Silva announcement. Though I'm really skeptical that it will happen. I still remeber Takada anouncing that Fujita and Sakaraba would fight in the UFC a couple of years ago.

Both Arlosky and Sylvia would get smoked in Pride. Fedor is the best fighter in the world. If you haven't seen him fight then you must watch these videos.

I know, but still pisses me off...I doubt I will buy another UFC ppv until they start putting together better fight cards.

Thrush 07-10-06 02:34 AM

The only good thing was the announcement of Lidell fighting Vanderlei. While Silva isnt quite the beast he was a few years back I doubt he will have much trouble handling Chuck.

tbird2340 07-10-06 06:38 AM

Most disappointing UFC ever.. :(

I was SOOOO pumped up to see this one.. Man, what a letdown. Ortiz vs Shamrock to end like that and that fast was a huge letdown.. So I was like.. Alright, first fight I was really looking forward to is over, we still have Sylvia vs Arlovski and no way that will suck..

Well, watching each these guys not wanting to commit to much for 25 minutes SUCKED!! I mean, the first fight was over in less then a minute, the second fight was awesome IMO and was over in less then 3 minutes.. Then this.. :sadbanana:

The first fight was the bloodiest fight I have ever seen. Joe Daddy kept his cool after getting rocked hard and ended up winning. Props to him..

I think Mir is done in the UFC unless he starts training seriously.. I mean, he was gassed after the first 2 minutes and barely won the fight.. Does anyone else even remember this Dan Christonson from TUF 2?

Also, the announcement for Vanderlei and Chuck.. Chuck fights 8/26 and if he wins he fights Vanderlei in October?? What if Chuck gets hurt? He'll only get 2 months (at the most) to heal?

SpaceBoy 07-10-06 08:02 AM

I ponied up for this ufc, my first in like forever, and agree was very letdown. The shamrock fight imho was called to early although I think it would have been over quick either way. Shamrock was able to jump right back up seemed into it. I can't see how they started talking about a shamrock Tito 3 fight. who would get suckered into that one, not even me :)

Agree the heavyweight fight was even worse. I'm glad I watched that one on dvr.

That first fight was tough to watch I've never seen that much blood looked like a bucket of red paint on him.

tbird2340 07-10-06 08:41 AM

Wow... I just watched Liddell get owned by Rampage Jackson.. I never seen that fight before and just watched it on youtube. Jackson landed some huge shots and I've never seen Chuck get handled like that..

Whats funny about that match is Dana White it on Commentary and he keeps complaining about how Chuck isn't following the game plan. I saw Rampage get his ass handed to hm by Wanderlai Silva on Pride man he hit him so hard Rampage fell through the ropes.

zuffy 07-10-06 09:44 AM

I don't see Silva beating Liddell that easily or vice versa. Silva don't have much of a chance to take down Liddell, especially in the cage, for any GnP. Liddell's sprawl is too good. It will be a striking fight and I will give Liddell a better chance of winning. If Silva gets too wild with his aggressive punching and kneeing, Liddell can knock him out with one punch or sting him with one, follow by a shitload of punches. It will be an interesting fight if it does happen.

That was hilarious, wasnt it? Wandy just clutching and throwing knee after knee, and next thing you know, Jackson is out like a light on the ropes.

Wandy/Chuck could really be something if it happens. I would favor Silva to win it.

The thing about Chucks sprawl is it isn't that great. When people have committed to getting him down and kept at it, they have been successful. What Chuck does better than anyone else is getting beck to his feet immediately.

As far as Silva he fought arguably the hardest puncher in MMA Mark Hunt (who happens to be a heavyweight) and took all the Hunt could give him and still didn't go down. Silva's got concrete in his head.

I think the problem Chuck will have with Silva is the same one he had with Rampage. Facing someone who is bigger, stronger who hits very hard and isn't intimidated to stand with Chuck. I mean Since he fought Rampage Chuck has been basically matched up against wrestlers and grapplers. He hasn't fought anyone with decent stand up in years. Silva's Muay Thai is brutal, particularly his work in the clench. Witness his 2 dismantlings of Rampage. Who hasn't been the same since. I don't think it will be a walk over for Silva. Not at this stage in his career. But I still don't see much of a chance for Chuck to pull out a victory.

BTW, I think both of these guys would get owned by Shogun who IMO is the best LHW out there.
