This story is weird. When Hayes was on the Opie and Anthony radio show they asked him about the Scientology episode and he said he had no problem with it. He said the show spreads their satire on everyone and all religions equally and basically repeated what Matt and Trey said time and again about the point of the show.
Now all of a sudden the religious satire bothers him? Sounds like his favorite church is putting pressure on him and he caved to it.
Man, am I glad to be an athiest.

It does make some sense as Hayes had no issues with the last time they insulted scientology (which was the David Blaine episode a few years back), he just asked not to be in it.

He was on the show for 9 seasons, his character was well liked and he was a fairly important part of the show, but now he doesn't want to do it anymore for whatever reason. I don't think that's any reaon for them to "send a message". It's not like he's the first person to ever leave a TV show.

They mentioned this on Nightline tonight. The reviewer kept calling him "EYE-SACK" during the narration. Fucking annoying.
Off topic...when did Nightline become a tabloid show?

I really hope that there is an episode in the near future that really trashes scientology again. Though "out of the closet" will be hard to beat. Maybe one that has Chef dieing after doing something grotesque?
Where was Hayes during the episodes that were slamming Catholotism? Fuck him, South Park doesn't need him.

How could anyone be on that show and NOT be offended at least once. That's the charm of the show. It fucks with EVERYONE!!
Hayes is being a bitch on this but I'm 99% sure his "Higher ups" in "MINDHEAD"...OOPS! I meant, "Scientology"
are forcing him to do this. I wouldn't be shocked if later we find out that Tom Cruise personally made a big stink about this until Hayes caved in....

Scientology is making him quit. He was on Opie and Anthony right after the episode was on, and they asked him about it, and he said they make fun of everyone, all religions, it's just the way the show is. I'm sure Cruise and Travolta caught wind of it and made a stink to Xenu, so Xenu is making him quit. I just hope Xenu realizes he won't be able to afford his auditing anymore.
A great future episode would be Chef getting kidnapped by Scientology (led Cruise and Travolta), and then using him in the future holding up signs that say "Help Me", "Save Me", etc. Then they could replace him at the lunch line with someone else. Could breath new life into the show.

A co-worker and I were joking that they should have an episode where the alien living inside Chef leaves for his home planet, so he looks the same, but sounds different. Then they could get some lame white guy to do his voice. Someone like...Michael Bolton.

For those interested, I captured and posted it. Both are in DivX6. The shorter clip just has them talking about Isaac Hayes and the other is the entire interview.
Dave Letterman - Isaac Hayes snipit 4MB
Dave Letterman - Entire interview 46MB
