Using the logic this thread presents, I read somewhere that Claire on Lost was going to live a LONG, fruitful life..

Is that a fact? I wonder how the shooting schedule is, because to my knowledge, 24 doesn't take breaks during it's seasons.

Do you have any examples of your statement?

they don't wait until episodes air to decide if storylines are "working" yet or not. i believe that once a season starts airing, the 24 cast and crew are about halfway through shooting the season. by that time a number of episodes have been assembled, if not finished.

I'd take the shock value of 24 over Lost's constant teasing and cop-outs any day of the week. Granted, I like Lost, but they tease us way too much and have not really shown the willingness to go that extra step. If the show's not about going the extra step, stop teasing us with it. The deaths of Boone and Shannon don't count, either, because they were dull, highly unliked characters on the show. At least with 24 you can feel something when the characters die off, and that adds an important layer that is missing from Lost. And I'm quite sure that Lost's writers do the same thing - write a lot of stuff as they go along.

man, if you think the writing is crazy now, I just read that they intend to have Mulder & Scully make appearances some time this season as well. it had something to do with the fact that Cancer Man was pulling everyones strings.

The first season was only plotted out until episode 12. Once the show was picked up for the full season, they wrote the rest of the season.

Seasons 2 and 3 (maybe 4) were written in 8-episode blocks. That's why episodes 8 and 16 had story climaxes.

This season they specifically plotted the first 2 hours to make a mini-movie.

All of this was picked up from print and online interviews with Howard Gordon and writers of the show.

Kiefer Sutherland has mentioned in past interviews that at some points they were still shooting episodes while later ones were being written.

As for the big death last night, Howard Gordon stated in a recent interview that the episode was filmed back in December, so that was before the first episode of the season aired, but it also means that they were still writing and filming the latter half of the season as the first few episodes aired.

Good thing Lost doesn't go for only shock value the way 24 does.
I know that the writers of Lost have yet to learn to make each and every episode exciting. Each episode doesn't need to have something shocking in it, but it does need to advance the story along each and every week. Usually a shocking event leads to continous advancement of the story and it seems to hook viewers in.

Not to go too much off topice, but I think you are incorrect here. This character was eliminated when the actress demanded more screen time, bigger storylines and more money. Plus she was supposedly a bitch so they killed her character off.

The bit about Chase is rather unnerving considering we were just told that he basically dumped Kim and is no longer on the show - being essentially replaced by a VERY worn-down looking C. Thomas Howell.

During Season 4 one of the cell phone numbers was an actual non-555 number. Some people called it and actually got through to the set and talked to crew who said they were filming like the 15th episode (the 3rd or 4th being the one with the number)

Yeah, Shannon isnt killed in Lost Season 1 but Boone is (I didnt like Shannon much either BTW, she's fit but a bit of an empty-headed, vacuous bitch overall IMO).

She is eaten by the monster. It was a hallucination, i.e. the writers pulling a fast one on the viewers after they promised someone would die, only to string us along longer.

Your logic = Who gives rats ass?

You don't like the show then don't post in this thread. The only show on tv in my opinion that has solid writing all the way around is Arrested Development. But I watch shows for enjoyment and dont spend my time in threads of shows that I care less about.

Chase's death wouldn't have been such a bad thing.

I haven't seen Season 5 yet, but I don't believe he has appeared at all since season 3 anyways.
