Arrested Development renewed? NY Post Online rumor PAGE SIX

Richard Johnson from Page Six - WE HEAR . . .

February 28, 2006 -- THAT fans of "Arrested Development" can relax. Word is Showtime not only picked up the canceled Fox show but also ordered 26 more episodes . . .
Here is the link from Page Six if you have a New York Post ID (free to sign up)

That would rock, considering there were only 53 episodes total. I may be ordering SHOWTIME.

Now the thing is, do you believe the journalist OR the New York Post?

Chew 02-28-06 11:31 AM

I think the Showtime rumor has been floating for a few weeks now, but it hasn't gone past "rumor" stage. When Showtime actually announces the next season, along with a start date, I'll be

twikoff 02-28-06 11:38 AM

showtime?
does that mean nevernude will be able to go completelynude?

Drop 02-28-06 11:48 AM

I think if it goes to Showtime, they should either stay with the censoring or just have the first episode filled with curses, even use a curse in episode title.

Either way I'm happy if this is true.

mdc3000 02-28-06 11:53 AM

Kristin at E! online said yesterday that as far as she knows, it's still rumour, but a reliable cast member said a deal is "CLOSE", so right now it was a little better than 50/50 it would be back... So I think until showtime makes an official statement, this is the same rumour, so it's not officially a done deal yet.

The Post? Uh huh... sure, I believe it.

Cusm 02-28-06 12:52 PM

I will pick up Showtime the day this is official.

BDB 02-28-06 02:19 PM

I too shall add showtime.

Cartload 02-28-06 02:25 PM

Hmm, just added Showtime and HBO to my cable lineup. I did this for The Sopranos, but I'll keep it for AD if it does go to Showtime.

Josh H 02-28-06 02:30 PM

I wouldn't add showtime, but would rather just wait for the DVDs. But it would be great news if it pans out.

Brent L 02-28-06 02:37 PM

They better leave in all of the censors. That is one of the tiny pieces of the heart of the show in my opinion. I look at it as the "documentary filmmakers" doing the censoring, and not the network.

Michael Corvin 02-28-06 03:21 PM

my little tribute(dvdcovers), just finished(98% done) season 3 today, I hope it isn't the end.

Same here. Getting Showtime would involve switching to digital cable for me, and it is more hassle than its worth (getting it to work with my standalone TiVo, more $$, room for a cable box, etc. etc.)

movieking 02-28-06 04:20 PM

This has been rumoured in many places before. Word has it Showtime was looking to pick it up for 2 13 episode seasons, and they are very very close to signing it.

I would finally be able to watch it in HD (no Fox on my cable and no OTA) and this would add more HD content overall to my cable package. I have been waiting to add Showtime for a good reason and this would give me that reason, and I would let them know why I added them.

There's got to be a better way to say that.

As much as I loved the show... I can't see it getting renewed. It wrapped up so nicley that I would rather just leave it at that.

But for the sake of everyone else in this thread... ignore this post, Showtime. :)

Since NewsCorp owns both the Post and FOX if this doesn't pan out as true, can we add this to the list of ways FOX doesn't support good shows?

obscurelabel 03-01-06 08:52 AM

Blecch ... one of the local radio stations this morning reported as fact that Showtime had picked up 26 episodes. I get to my computer and find out it's just the same unsubstantiated reports in the OP. I feel as if a doctor just said "we lost your father" ...

He's going to be "all right". God, I love this show!

mmconhea 03-01-06 09:08 AM

I'm going to show my support and sign up for showtime the moment it's announced. I'm not taking any risks with this show. It's worth paying to keep it on the air.

Sure, why not?

bub2000 03-01-06 11:47 AM

Hmm. Wonder how a Showtime deal would work up here in Canada.
Though Sopranos was shown uncut/uncensored on CTV, but late at night, and years after it aired on HBO...

Michael Corvin 03-01-06 12:21 PM

I doubt I would sign up right away as that would be a waste of my money, but I'd probably have Showtime installed a week or so before the episodes start airing.

wergo 03-01-06 02:05 PM

I agree that they should keep the (self-)censorship in regards to language; it just makes it funnier.

But I am looking forward to lots of full-frontal nudity.

Just as long as it's Lindsey Funke and not Tobias Funke. Mrs. Fingerbottom should ALWAYS be wearing clothes. And probably cutoffs under the costume, just in case.

Say, would I be being greedy and ungateful to ask for them to make Justine Bateman a semi-regular as well?

It would air on TMN (The Movie Network) which is a premium channel. They air all the big Showtime and HBO shows.

ESG927 03-02-06 09:08 AM

My husband called me this morning to say that he too heard on the radio that it's picked up by Showtime. Now say what you want about the media, but I really can't imagine it being broadcast that Showtime picked it up if it wasn't.

We won't be adding Showtime to our cable because cable costs so much here. But definitely will buy it on DVD. Can't wait for Season 3 to come out!

Personally I think the "censoring" -- the blurred out body parts and the beeped curse words -- are all part of the humor. I just love it that Buster's "stump" is pixelized when he's not wearing his hand or hook!

Well, Showcase airs WEEDS, which is what Showtime would pair AD with I believe, so TMN might not be the definitive answer to that question... why TMN didn't pick up Weeds is beyond me....

Just keep in mind that DJs mention tv and movie rumors all of the time. Hearing something in the radio doesn't make it gospel.

Until Fox or Showtime themselves speak up, it is all still rumors.

LasVegasMichael 03-02-06 11:00 AM

We I guess I'm one of the few that already has Showtime, so it will be an easy switch if it pans out. I'm surprised thaere are not more premium channel subscribers on this board for shows like Bullshit and Curb. We get the package deal for all premiums, and it really does not add that much more per month (including HD DVR), for what you get.

the number 26 was the red flag for me. That's an abnormally large number for a major network, full season, show, let alone a smaller premium channel. Now if it said 2 year contract, 13 shows a season, I'd buy that.

I wouldnt be able to add Showtime, but I would just for this show.

I'd rather pay them directly to send me dvds ASAP.

JTH182 03-03-06 02:07 AM

I believe they DID say 2 years 13 eps... which would be awesome!
