Is 'American Dreams' any good?

I've watched a couple episodes from the first season...so far, it's okay...I'm hoping it gets better. It doesn't seem like the characters are developing very much....maybe I need to give it more time.

What does anyone else think?

It's really good. Although I think I fell more in love with it in later seasons.

I remember being a little indifferent when it first aired. I loved all the female characters but I did not like how the male characters were written (dad was pompous ass, and JJ was boring).

I watched it for the music and nostalgia of the 1960's. I started watching it in season 2, which I thought was awesome. I enjoyed Season 3, but it felt uneven mainly because it spent the whole year in danger of being cancelled and unfortunately it finally was canned. I believe there was only 17 or 18 episodes in it's final season. I have season 1 on DVD and will try to get around to it eventually.

Season 2 and 3 spent alot of time talking about the impact of the Vietnam war because JJ pretty much spent all his time there.

ok cool, sounds like I should give it some time. It's not often you get a television period piece...surprised it lasted as long as it did. Of course it was probably more expensive to produce because of that. Good thing Dick Clark was on board!

It took a while to establish itself in those early episodes (a little too heavy on the teenage girl/American Bandstand thing), but once it had its rhythm, I thought it was very good. I really miss it.

Absolutely. Highly recommended. Probably the most underrated show during its life.

Pretty sure it only had 2 seasons. I think this show started the reemaergance of good music on TV

It was definitely 3 seasons. The 1st season finale was the race riots in Philly. The 2nd season finale was JJ's crew getting attacked in Vietnam. The show finale had Meg riding off with her loser boyfriend Chris on his bike.

Supposedly there was a alternate version of the series finale that tied up all the loose ends that ran over 12 minutes long.

I guess the song clearances are what's holding up Season 2 and 3 from being released on DVD.

thanks for the spoilers! I obviously haven't seen it. Oops.

for the record, I somehow managed to not get the Friends finale spoiled for almost two years. Finally saw it the other night!
