FRONTLINE - "Sex Slaves" - 02/07/2006

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/slaves/

Did anyone else see this latest episode of PBS Frontline? Just shocking to see how women are being sold into slavery in the sex business in this day-and-age and governments in all of the countries involved are really doing nothing about it.

I saw it, and the fact that the police know who is doing it and condoning it is what is sick.

I was flipping channels last night and came across this program. Couldn't change the channel after the first 5 minutes. It was sickening. But it also seemed like most of these girls knew what they were getting into but their economic situation was so tragic that they felt like they had no other option (like the girl that decided to go back into the sex trade because of her sick brother). Living in USA, we rarely get to experience that level of poverty that forces you into voluntarily selling your body and putting yourself through brutal beatings. I for one would like to beat the shit out of those pimps. One of these days, I sure hope they get what is coming to them.

I got the impression that the police, especially in Turkey, are completely paided off.

(And that judge who gave Vlad a suspended sentence was probably paid off too.)

That particular story made me think "Why didn't the filmmakers just give her the few hundred dollars she needed for her brothers' operation?" How could they let her go back into that world? (And looking at Frontline's own discussion board, some other viewers were thinking the same thing.)

did you see the part when the guy was looking for his wife, the man wanted the tape of the conversation he had with the pimps wife, but the crew did not want to give it up because they would become part of the story.
