The Shield - "Trophy" - 2/7/2005

Spoiler:
Kavanaugh bugs the Strike Team clubhouse to get his stalled investigation back on track and Vic and the guys attempt to end a deadly prescription drug ring. Dutch tries to discover Claudette's secret as the two work a missing persons case

Sounds like your typical fucking awesome Shield episode to me.

What happened to sweeping the clubhouse for bugs?

It should be obvious what happened at this point. Let Kavanaugh try to say he wasn't using privileged information now. :D

Absolutely brilliant. I'm just waiting for Vic to turn Aceveda against Kavanaugh.

Jimmy James 02-07-06 10:00 PM

Now that's the FW I have been waiting to see. I hope Vic realizes it isn't over between the Strike Team and Kavanaugh.

IDrinkMolson 02-07-06 10:01 PM

Wow. I think that was the best episode EVER.

tsohg 02-07-06 10:07 PM

Whoa  talk about balls to the walls. I thought it was over for Vic when they shot that guy even though I knew it wouldn't be that easy to take him down. Great suspence. Forest earned his spot on the show tonight with that last scene.

MovieExchange 02-07-06 10:08 PM

Wow... Kavanaugh losing it at the end was great. Now THAT is the intensity I've been expecting out of Whitaker, and it looks like he's going to keep that intensity next week.

If they're really ending it, it's a shame on one hand, but on the other hand it's nice to know that they are going to go out at what looks to be the top of their game.

joshd2012 02-07-06 10:08 PM

 The Sheild

Totally unbelievably good episode. Had me suckered in the whole time.

Flay 02-07-06 10:11 PM

Best episode of the season. Whew, that was quite a ride.

Mowork 02-07-06 10:13 PM

Wow....... just..... wow...

Amazing episode tonight. Whitaker absolutely CRUSHED it!!!!!

MovieExchange 02-07-06 10:28 PM

Dani's comment to Vic that the father doesn't know about the kid, and "couldn't handle it right now if he did"..... a hint that Vic's the dad, or a red herring to throw us off who the real dad is?

I could see that as Dutch or Julian as well.

I kinda think it's Vic cause the last person we saw her being intimate with was Vic when they were staking out in front of Monica's house last season but I could be wrong. It could be that pawn shop guy that was hounding her last season too maybe she finally gave in to him.

Michael T Hudson 02-07-06 10:56 PM

Great episode.

MovieExchange 02-07-06 11:01 PM

So nice I had to watch the replay.

MrX 02-07-06 11:04 PM

Very good episode

Whitaker going apeshit at the end was great.

Patman 02-07-06 11:04 PM

While I wasn't suckered in, it was great to see Acevada's sheepish look after the IAD f-up, and then Cavanaugh's Hulk-out was hiliarious.

Ranger 02-07-06 11:06 PM

Fantastic episode.

Jimmy James 02-07-06 11:06 PM

I wasn't suckered in simply because I couldn't imagine what direction the show would go in if Vic *wasn't* setting Kavanaugh up. The only thing that made any sense to me as a twist was going to be that Ronnie had also been turned (thus no bug sweep). That seemed like it would get unnecessarily messy, though.

sauce07 02-08-06 12:18 AM

Great episode, seeing kavanaughs reaction when he realized what he did in the warehouse was amazing.

"I ooze gentle"

Bateman 02-08-06 01:07 AM

Damn that was a great episode. I was expecting something to work out in the end that would deal with the 10k they were asking for but I wasnt expecting the complete turnaroud that happened.

I was also amused that Dutch refered to himself as Dutch Man.

Next weeks looks to be just as intense.

That had me on the floor. rotfl

I too think Vic is the father. I can see something tragically happening where she loses the baby, or its life is in jeopordy, and Vic has to do put himself and the strike team in danger to save her and/or the baby.

Also, I'm not sure the rookie is going to get anyone killed like I thought last week. It is just too perfect of a set-up for her to fail - and when is anything that cut and dry in the show? Possibly an investigaion of Dutch-Boy?

I agree, this episode absolutely rocked!

vegasbaby 02-08-06 07:28 AM

Anyone notice that Scott Brazil is Co-Executive Producer ? He was involved with Hill Street Blues years ago ...

Now I know why this show is back on top of its game this year.

mullivan 02-08-06 07:47 AM

Great episode!

And I still stand by my prediction that Vic is the baby's daddy and the child will be born with autism.

Charlie Goose 02-08-06 08:21 AM

Knowing that Ronnie sweeps the clubhouse for bugs every day, I figured they were setting Kavanaugh up to fail. Also, Vic is way too smart to make a deal with the Russians while the team is already balls deep in an IAD investigation. It was a beautiful thing to behold. Even the weak captain took a piece, "Get those cuffs off my men NOW!" Kavanaugh is going to be desperate now, since anything he does will look like a vendetta from this point.

How many more episodes until the Dutch Man taps that rookie cop's ass?

When Danny was rubbing lotion on her extended belly, I got a bit of a chubby. Who's with me?

Vic's kids have autism and not down syndrome.

Even better was the way Vic played Aceveda to Kavanaugh--Those little moments: the stop & chat last week, the little arm squeeze on the way out of the IAD "bust," etc. With Kavanaugh watching, he's getting more and more in doubt about whether Aceveda's with him or with Vic, and Vic just keep watering those seeds of doubt...

Genius.

sundog 02-08-06 08:59 AM

[HOMER]So the cops knew that Internal Affairs was setting them up?...[/HOMER]

heh, after the sting, I was laughing so hard when Vic acted all disgusted that IAD would bust good cops.

I knew the fix was in on Kavanaugh really early. The cut from him to the clubhouse, focusing on the trophy and the way they were practically talking right to it clued me in. It was just by the end, I didn't know how they would pull it off.

The only thing, those looked like actual bullets they were loading into the guns as Lem left for the night. Granted, I don't know exactly what blanks look like, but the rounds they loaded had bullet tips poking out of the cartridges...

Still a great episode. It looked like Whitaker was doing some Ghost Dog moves in one scene.

dadaluholla 02-08-06 09:03 AM

So there's only like 5 or 6 episodes left now?
:(

Brazil has been with the show since season 1.

It's a 22-episode season, being split into two parts.

As for tonight's episode, my favorite scenes were the ones where Kavanaugh is listening in on the wiretap and taking notes. Very well staged. (Reminded me of "The Word" on The Colbert Report).

dadaluholla 02-08-06 09:30 AM

Ok, Thief is set to premiere on 3/28 so we've got 6 left, putting the Shield 1st half finale on 3/21. I think Thief is only 6 weeks worth of shows, so is Rescue Me starting in May then?

pezboy 02-08-06 09:57 AM

No one has mentioned the sweetest part of Vic's plan, which was when he tipped Aceveda to the drop. Beauty. Forrest was made for this role.

Also, I fear for any dectective that grills Vic's ex.

Cusm 02-08-06 10:09 AM

So could Vic start hounding the department through his lawyer, the press and brass about being persacuted by Kavanaugh and what appears to be his vendetta against Vic?

While he possibly could, I don't really know if he'd want to. I imagine that his plan is to just get the IAD investgation to stop once and for all, not go on the offensive.

How about 7 million.

Vic one step ahead of Cavanaugh. As cool as last night's episode was, I hope it doesn't always play out that way because it played out far too easy.
