When he was hitting the tv, he also pressed the button on the front panel of it which changed inputs - probably from the Line 1 video feed it was supposed to be on to coaxial or something. The guy who tried to sneak in there switched it back to line 1.

I saw that and thought this was the rerun of the last SNL with a Target skit, so I turned it off. Oh well.

Okay, I'm gonna dissent a bit. I thought that 3 of the skits (Pirate convention, hotel room TV, and SG-SARS-Guard) were pretty solid and clever at times. As this seasons averages have been, that puts this show above the fray, imo.

I've gotta side with Mr. Goose on this one. None of them were horrible, but I did find myself chuckling alot (despite PS's obvious cue card reading).

The only skit I didn't care for was the Gays In Space, but I was upset to see Maya replaced by Will, but he did a good job.

The digital short was well done, loved the ending with the falling bandana. But the Pirate Convention was by far the highlight of the show, with Wiig's Target Cashier as a close second and the Hotel TV skit (I got the screw up and it was dang funny... especially when he was inserting raunchy questions before her 'scripted' answers).

"I can't wait to tell my sister how great this break has been."

Boo. Fucking Lorne Michaels.
I watched the Seattle feed, and the skit was intact. I wonder if they choose at the station level what to air?

...And here's a reference pic from the Golden Globes. I hadn't seen it before. Makes the Drew Barrymore bit make a bit more sense.

I thought the Target sketch was good and the only thing good about it was Sarsgaard.

Am I the only one who thinks the Target skit was painfully awful? I thought it was awful the night Wiig did it when Cook hosted and it was just as bad tonight. Wiig's character in that skit is almost as bad as Dratch's Debbie Downer or, dare I say it, Sanz's Carol. Sadly, that's the most we've seen out of the new woman so far and I already want her gone.

This episode was one of the worst of the season. The only laughs that the show got from me were when the pirates were saying, "SARRRRSGAARRRRRD!" I thought "Young Chuck Norris" was clever, as was the "Peter Sarsgaard Sars Guard;" but that was it. All of the other skits were just horrible and hard to watch.

What makes it even worse is that my friends and I laughed more during the first thirty minutes of a terrible Mad TV repeat that was playing on FOX. And Mad TV hasn't been funny in years (some may argue that it hasn't been funny ever).

While I'm awaiting the Martin/Prince episode, I'm just waiting to see how bad the writers can fuck it up. Seriously, this show needs an overhaul. NBC needs to fire Michaels and 90% of the cast and writing team and just bring new people in. Fuck it, they could probably bring in the cast and crew of Mad TV and it would probably be a better show.

I’ll go with a on this one. No bad skits, even the Carol one was okay.
Good one. You're funnier than anything that aired on this week's episode.

I don't watch SNL regularly but I take a peak once in a while. Watched last night's and thought it was pretty bad overall.

Surprised to see some folks here like it, guess it's just not my type of humor.

Worst of the season that I remember.
Yeah, I'm also surprised about Charlie's review too. I really want to laugh and through the years, I think we might have lowered our standards for what is really funny.

I also found the pirate sketch to be painful and just plain redundant. SNL just runs one joke down to the ground. And I don't know what was that funny about the woman in the Target sketch.

I saw Shattered Glass too and didn't make the connection!

I am NOT getting my hopes up for Steve Martin -- he will still be surrounded by THIS cast. Hopefully they're using the two weeks they have to write some stuff that's, you know, FUNNY!

I got the connection right away, but it didn't make the sketch any more enjoyable.

Good movie though.

Since this episode sucked, I'll use this time to interject this:

Das, I can not tell you how many times I have looked at your avatar and wondered "What the hell is that from?".

Well I saw that movie last movie, and I laughed out loud when I saw a flash of that image. I can honestly say that me laughing at that image was the ONLY highlight of that movie.

The Strokes were great (esp. the 1st song), I liked the opening, and I liked the Hotel skit (not because of the screw-ups, but just from being in hotels sorta like that in Las Vegas with the annoying channel hyping everything at the hotel.) I also liked the Pirate skit, maybe because talking like a Pirate is fun! Everything else was mediocre, but seeing it all in Hi-Def was great.

And please, SNL, for the love of the TV gods, stop doing the Carol skit NOW!!!

You have got to be kidding me. The show was absolutely wretched. The only remotely funny bit was the hotel sketch, and that was only because the prop malfunction gassed up a sketch that was heading for an otherwise mere chuckle finish. This was one of the least funny episodes I have ever seen. Saarsgard was terrible as a host. The writing lacked any cleverness or fresh ideas (save the hotel sketch). The big memorable laugh of the night according to many posters was some enormous fake boobs. Har-dee-har-har.

When are they gonna do a "24" parody with Jason Sudeikis as Jack Bauer? That guy was born to spoof Kiefer Sutherland.

wow, remind me to NEVER hang out with Charlie Goose.

only thing i liked was the pirates skit. "What be your favorite fast food restaurant specializing in roast beef sandwiches?" "what be that first website again?" "Ted? - Here"

the hotel skit was relatively funny because of the "technical difficulties". 20 bucks says michaels thinks people actually liked the skit for what it was, and makes dratch's hotel info woman a recurring character (a la debbie downer).

carol was HORRIBLE. hell, the word HORRIBLE doesn't even describe it. I don't think there's a word to describe it.

as for the target skit, yeah, it's funny that the cashier just runs off to get something... but that's it.

For me, Sarsgaard drained the life out of every skit. It was one of the more painful SNLs in quite a while. That's saying something.

Yeah, I'd have to dissent from Mr. Goose as I found the show to be quite awful. Young Chuck Norris was alright, and there were a few light laughs on the hotel tv sketch, but the rest of the show was pretty awful. Saarsgard's flubbing several lines didn't help either.

In recent years I've gotten into the habit of watching SNL later on DVR so that I can skip over bad sketches like Carol. Sometimes I can actually watch the show in less than 40 minutes.

The only reason I still watch at all is because of the occasional great sketch like the Hotel Room and musical guests like The Strokes.

Everyone is pooping all over my thumb. That's okay though, I still thought the episode was funny, in spite of a poor host. Am I an SNL apologist? I don't think I am. I try not to be anyway, although I do admit to being a bit generous. If the show makes me laugh, that's enough.
The one thing that everyone agrees on in the weekly SNL thread is that Horatio Sanz sucks. Hell, I've even grown somewhat fond of Kenan Thompson.

Assuming I have no interest in the musical guest, which is about 80% of the time, I can watch in about 20-30 minutes.

I'd like to see it as besides a few choice cast members (Hader, Samberg, Parnell, Hammond, Rudolph, and maybe even Thompson) that a good portion of the cast currently sucks.

And Sanz doesn't suck. He sucks and blows.
