Looks like the vortex(bermuda triangle) theories could be panning out. The [small]plane takes off in Nigeria and crashes in the south pacific?

Was Eko supposed to be on the plane? Maybe that was a first attempt to bring him to the island and the gold tooth man ruined it, forcing him on flight 815. Kind of like Final Destination's "cheated death's design" scenario.

Solid episode.

I like the theory above about
Spoiler:
Eko being saved by faith, and Locke being corrupted by it.

Good stuff.

What was Jack's sin? I don't remember him doing anything bad, although it has been a while since i saw season 1.

Pretty solid episode. I think my favorite moment was when Michael asked Locke how he knew so much about guns and the answer was 'My dad used to take me hunting.' O'Quinn just nails that part.

So I take it we're now supposed to believe that the cloud turns into whatever the person viewing it is afraid of? If so, I'd think it would've just turned into a bunch of Others for Mr. Eko, as they have been the one thing we've seen him kind of fear. Also, I'd say Mr. Eko is the closest they've come so far to making a character irredeemable. I'm very curious about what happened to him in the time between his brother getting shot and the plane crash.

I didn't see it that way - more like that cloud reveals things that linger inside ones self. Remember that the drug sellers said that Eko had "no soul" before he sliced them. Maybe this "being" is showing them what is in their soul. That would explain why Locke had no fear of it, either.

Yes, that's one of the bigger backstories that we have yet to see. It's probably going to reveal a lot, and will probably include some link to another backstory (given the way things have been going).

How about when Locke reminisced about hunting with his father? Good times!

Great episode. Eko is quickly becoming my favorite character. So this pretty much confirms that the black cloud/smoke is the "security system" right?

Thanks for sharing the pictures of what was seen in the black cloud. I've got to rewatch the episode.

I also like the theory of
Spoiler:
Eko being saved by faith, and Locke being corrupted by it.

"Tell them, Mr. Eko let you live." Great line.

Really glad Claire kicked Charlie loose. Seems like he could easily go off the straight and narrow.

Was Hurley just being helpful or could that be the start of a "friendship"? I gues only time will tell.

So glad this show has returned.

Today's NY Post has a Picture of Hurley and his gal pal going for a stroll on the beach (in next weeks episode).

I guess she's a chubby chaser.

LOVED this episode...one of the best yet IMO. This season has been a lot slower than the first, with not a whole hell of a lot happening, but the mythology that builds with each episode, as well as the depth they keep adding to the characters make it the most compelling hour on TV regardless. One of my favourite parts of the show is coming on to these posts afterwards and seeing what I missed (was glad to see the cloud pics were up...I saw Eko and his Bro and Jesus on the cross when watching on TV... )

As for the missing piece of the Jack backstory, I think that's season finale material IMO. Something is not right with that Libby girl (the one who Hurley helped out) but I'm not so sure what... also, next week looks intense (the canadian scenes were different than the US feed, watched them both...some interesting stuff is going to happen) Mr. Eko is the man.

I say they just all get high on heroin and they will have no problems. Find a few pot plants too. At least they will be happy.
So why isn't anyone looking for that dissapearing Woman from the tallies section?

The Others must be hibernating. You'd think a plane on fire might have caught their attention.

yep, now we know it definitely took off in Nigeria. He's the link for the Vile Vortices again...

Vile Vortices

great episode. but like someone said, i think it was great because there actually was a flashback we cared about. the last few backstories haven't revealed much, so the episodes have seemed off. Lost is back with this one!

Forget the Others, my first thought was that the people back on the beach would see a column of black smoke and start freaking out!

don't know if anyone touched on this, but i was thinking about it.

why did Eko react to Claire the way he did when she told him about the statue? I could understand reacting strangely if he SAW the statue (cause he'd recognize it). But lots of people have virgin mary statues, it's not like the ones used in the drug-running are the only ones out in the world. Was Eko EXPECTING to find the plane on this island?

We don't know everything about Jack yet. His wife's fate? His tatoos?
