Of course, they could fix this by not giving out their awards in the middle of a season, but then they'd have to do two different award shows. Reason #24601 why the Golden Globes are silly.
Not really...

I mean, there is certainly enough content through most show's half season point (or even less) to establish the quality of the show. We have 13 episodes of Prison Break's semi-midseason (since it was only a half order), yet 12 of Rome and Rome no doubt deserves the nomination, IMO. Also compared to something like the U.K. version of The Office, which had twelve episodes it's entire two season run.

tcoursen makes a great point though that there is a difference between a show that sets out to have a short run, and a show that is 'developing' as it goes and as it is renewed. But I think I am going to stick with my "No" answer because I think of a show like Lost. This is a show where it is not clear they have an ultimate picture and the story they want to tell certainly hasn't been told yet. And even if they were writing it as they went, and even if it went to crap, six episodes in I think it was clear that those six episodes were of incredible quality.

In other words, a show that has Seasons 2,3,4,etc. turn out ridiculous, still doesn't invalidate a great Season 1. A single season can stand on it's own, even without a coherent ending storyline.

I certainly do have a problem with shows being nominated for an entire season without the people who nominated them seeing the entire season, if that what you meant! That's not what happened though, is it? Prison Break, although only a half order, was a "full" season.

Well, Scrubs has not aired a single ep this season yet it has one nomination for lead actor.

Boston Legal also with one nomination for supporting actor.

No nods for Arrested Development.

The Golden Globes have officially become irrelevant.

I think they should have nominated Chandra Wilson from Grey's Anatomy for Best Supporting Actress. She steals every scene she is in.

Their cut off period is the same as the Oscars, but for both television and film. So anything that aired from Jan 1st, 2005 - Dec. 31, 2005 on television is eligible. Both 24 and Scrubs aired epsiodes in 2005.

(I should say will air before Dec. 31st, but you know what I mean.)

I just think it's funny that with four out five nominations, a Desperate Housewife didn't win Best Actress.

It wasn't THAT funny. He said that he didn't have a speech ready because he didn't think he would win, but his wife wrote one for him, and when he read it, every second person he mentioned was his wife. There were some other things thrown in, but that is the gist of it.

Perhaps it is BECAUSE Desperate Housewives got four nods that MLP won for Weeds. They could have split the vote, allowing mlp to slide through.

I totally expected it, and I never saw MLP in Weeds.

I tuned in during the intermissions of the Penguins game and then watched after that. It made me realize how much tv I don't watch. Just 3 shows: Earl, Office, and Supernatural. I would've have picked Jason Lee over Carrel, but Carell's speech was hilarious. I wish he would bring more of that sincerity to the show.

Closing thread, as this was an older thread about the nominations and the winners have now been announced.
