The issue isn't whether Liz's character is "beloved," the issue is that making her into a serial rapist would be a complete 180 for the character, and ring false. Most of the other suspects I could buy a lot easier than Liz.

I would be less concerned about it ringing false than about them exploring why. As far as I know, Ryan Murphy has made no claims about whether the characters on the show and/or the police will know who it is when the audience knows who it is. If it is a character like Liz, I would expect them not to be apprehending her this season and for the story to dominate at least the early part of season 4.

Groucho 12-11-05 03:57 PM

I think that no matter who the Carver is, they will only be unmasked at the end of the finale. No arrest, etc. The aftermath will be part of season 4, as you say.

I could see it go either way depending on who it is.

I agree. However, I'm becoming convinced that although the Carver will be unmasked, the other characters won't see it. Only we will.

Spoiler:
One of the supposed "leaked" script pages has the Carver being shot in the shoulder. Later in the episode, we see Sean sitting down when he notices his shoulder hurting. He takes off his shirt and we see a fresh suture of what looks like a bullet wound on his shoulder. It then pans to Sean looking confused. Note however this is probably more fan fiction than anything else

Jimmy James 12-11-05 05:36 PM

Spoiler:
If it is Sean, I think it will mean that Nip/Tuck will spend the remainder of its run dealing with this story. I could see Sean getting caught at the end of season 4 with a final season that deals with the aftermath.

This actually kind of makes sense as an arc for this show, particularly if Sean drags Christian down with him. The show opened with Sean having to dispose of a body due to Christian. Could the mental break date back to that event?

Liz is a more substantial character than the kid is and would have an impact on at least Julia, Sean, and Christian. She can certainly be the carver, but I think it would be crazy to think that would mean we wouldn't see more of the story told in season 4. If it's somebody like Quentin or Bobolit, I think it's a lot less likely that we'd see the story continue into season 4 (depending on what happens with
Spoiler:
Julia's pregnancy or pregnancy scare in Quentin's case
).

ETA: Also, I think it's evident that Liz is far more beloved than Matt is.

Why are you comparing Matt to Liz in the first place? Obviously no one here likes Matt, but that still doesn't mean he isn't far more integral to the show than Liz is. That is all besides the point anyway.

For the people that voted for Quentin, what is his motive? From my point of view he has none. So he's off my Carver list. So is Christian. I'm leaning more towards the Carver being Cara Fitzgerald...but we'll soon find out. I can't wait to see the preview for the Dec. 20th season finale.

Cara? Seriously, you have to be kidding. That's just ridiculous. You couldn't rationally explain everything the Carver does and apply it to a borderline idiotic HIGH SCHOOL student. The Carver has an advanced intellect (while crazy) and alot of resources. Forget about Cara, that's nonsense.

As for Quentin, there's PLENTY. He came back from a region where they disfigured people for sport. He returns to a place where people butcher themselves for vanity. He also probably struggles with his sexuality and sense of self. He routinely subjects himself to emotional pain and rejection. There's probably more of a case for Quentin than anyone else.

Patman 12-11-05 09:39 PM

The motive for Quentin is that he was sick of being the bottom, so as the Carver, he got to flip things around.

We don't know what Quentin's motive is because we know nothing about him prior to when he showed up. That does not mean he has no motive.

Beyond that, it's not like killers of this nature have motives much of the time. Look at BTK -- what was his motive, aside from being pure evil? We have seen evil in Quentin.

BTW - I was thinking about the last episode and I remember the triage surgeon commenting on how good Julia was when removing the skin from that woman's mother. I thought it was interesting.

I took his words to be the sort somebody would give to a novice in the field they were hoping to encourage, not a sign of truly superior surgical skill. After all, he did the hard parts and left her to basically just cut down far enough to get it all.

I have to say, the producers and writers have done a VERY good job of setting up just about everybody to be the Carver. This is one of the best mysteries on TV in a long time.

BTW, here is a link that contains some pages from upcoming episodes. It looks to be a casting depot of some sort. Very little is revealed

Kimber lives and the Carver has fucked her up big time

I second the comment about the Carver being one of the scariest things on film. He/she creeps me out and even more so after heading over to myspace..

My current vote goes to Gina with Julia being a close second. I really don't buy into Chrisitan being the Carver. I just don't see how the show continues unless like someone stated earlier we see who the Carver is but the other people do not. Christian is the most focal character of the show and the reason why most people watch the show. I can't really answer why Sean didn't get it worse than he did if it were Gina, so with that and the compelling arguement made by a few others Julia is gaining a lot of ground.

Yes, Bobolit is a possibility, but I think that would be the cheap way out also. From a storytelling standpoint, Bobolit's story has already been told. It would be too easy to make him the Carver, and quite frankly I think it would be a let down. Let's face it, the Carver is all anyone is talking about during this pretty bland season for the most part (why the hell haven't they built off that great episode with Kit and Christian?!?!?) so the identity of the Carver has to impact the show in some way. Then again, not all writers are like Joss Whedon....

riley_dude 12-12-05 05:08 PM

I really hope that when they reveal the Carver that they end the story. The story has gone on way too long already.

It's the season finale. You can bet that it won't be the end of the story, and probably worse - a cliffhanger.

I've been predicting for weeks Liz is the Carver. Well I'm going to up the ante and predict that not only is Liz the Carver, but she has a penis. You heard it here first, folks.

Don't we know this to be false already? I thought we were able to establish that Liz had the equipment you'd expect when that Sofia whatshername and Liz hooked up.

Do you mean Aisha Tyler, or someone from a few seasons ago? Either way, if it's possible to make a dude look like Famke Janssen, Liz could be switched in an outpatient procedure.

If Liz has a penis, she sure as hell wasn't born with it.

This is nonsensical. Let's not forget that Christain ARTIFICILALLY INSEMINATED her. I'm pretty sure he would have noticed that. Plus she needed sperm to get pregnant, which she was until she lost the baby.

You need to rewatch my friend.

Besides what others have said, it would also be too close to last seasons shocker about Ava. What I think they should have done was have it that Ava still had her equiptment, Matt was having sex with her ANYWAY, and she was the carver.
