I wasn't the least bit interested in this until I heard that they re-cast with Justin. Any Passions fan can tell you the guy has got style. Decent acting chops, probably too decent for this type of show on this network. (Not that Passions raises the bar on acting ) But, he's definitely got "it".

From what I have read he keeps his shirt off most of the time in that as well.
At least he has experience.

The trailer for this show may be attached to "Superman Returns".

Aquaman Trailer with Superman Returns?
Source: Variety March 12, 2006

In a Variety article talking about The CW (the combination of The WB and UPN launching this fall), it is mentioned that the "Aquaman" series, titled Mercy Reef, may be promoted on Superman Returns in theaters:

It's expected that much of the CW's promo resources will be aimed at letting people know there's a new network in town -- with shows they already know and love. Parent companies Time Warner and CBS Corp. will help with everything from saturation spots on CBS Radio stations to a potential "Aquaman" trailer attached to summer tentpole "Superman Returns."

We'll keep you updated on this.
I also hope that the show's name "Mercy Reef" is not final.

Is it soooo wrong to just call it "Aquaman"? We can't have superhero names in our TV show titles anymore or something?

Mercy Reef sounds like a place for oversexed mermaid hospital employees like doctors and nurses

Maybe they will go with The MC.

Exactly. "Smallville" is nothing of not an acorn that fell off the "Buffy" tree.

While The CW, the combo of The WB and UPN, won't officially release its 2006-07 primetime schedule until Thursday, Variety has learned that the network has passed on Aquaman:

Meanwhile, the CW's adaptation of "Aquaman," once considered a shoo-in for fall, wound up being sunk.

Developed by Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the show (aka "Mercy Reef") was to have starred Justin Hartley in the title role as well as Denise Quiñones and Ving Rhames.

I read a week or so it was having major problems from a development standpoint.

The whole "we're a famous superhero show that pretends *not* to be a famous superhero show" idea was lame and flawed to begin with... as Smallville has amply proved with season after season of bad ideas or no ideas at all.

Maybe they overestimated the amount of underwater crimes committed.

Also a show like this most be rather expensive to produce, and the CW wants to spend as little money as possible this next season. Their other pilot that didn't get produced, "split decision" would also have been expensive from its massive cast and make/costume charges...

There's a rumour that the pilot for this failed show will be available in iTunes and will be announced at Comic Con.

According to that article the show was going to be named "Mercy Reef" and Justin Hartley was to play the "title role".

So his character was named "Mercy Reef"? Stupid article.

Although it won't make it to series, I still would love to see the pilot.

No, it's called Aquaman. You can find it easily in the TV shows section.

I think everyone's afraid to waste $1.99 on this.

I'm holding back for a few reasons:

1. I suspect it to suck hard.
2. I don't really have time to watch it now.
3. I'm 99% sure they'll stick this as a bonus on some WB DVD set at some point... Smallville or something else. The chances rise to 100% if I spend $1.99 to download it.

Don't have itunes, so I can't download it, but I know I saw the trailer a while back, it's got to be on the net somewhere.

Edit: Found it - http://livedigital.com/content/282437/ Might give some an idea of if it's "worth it".

Well I'll save my $1.99 for something else. That trailer sucked.
