The Aquaman pilot... but it won't be called Aquaman?

Aquaman pilot swims to WB Network By Cynthia Littleton Sun Nov 13, 8:59 PM ET LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Aquaman will soon join Superman on the WB Network, courtesy of the producers of "Smallville," the cult favorite about the early years of the Man of Steel. The new project is envisioned as a contemporary reinterpretation of the DC Comics character who lives in the deep sea and enlists sharks and other oceanic creatures to help him in his crime-fighting endeavors. The new-model Aquaman will be a man in his early twenties. As is the case on "Smallville," which tells the story of Clark Kent's teenage years and his coming-of-age as Superman, there won't be any presto-chango into costumes or other superhero accessories when his superpowers are invoked, a WB Network spokesman said. The October 20 episode of "Smallville," titled "Aqua," featured the Kent character encountering a mysterious young swimmer and do-gooder dubbed "A.C.," played by Alan Ritchson. The WB spokesman said that episode, which ranked as "Smallville's" most-watched of the season with nearly 6.5 million viewers, was not meant to be a template for the "Aquaman" project and that "Smallville" executive producers Miles Millar and Alfred Gough would search for a new actor for the lead role. The "Aquaman" pilot tentatively is set to shoot early next year in Florida. According to the Aquaman lore, the character is the exiled king of the lost underwater civilization of Atlantis. The former Prince Orin was abandoned as a child, raised by dolphins and later adopted by a lighthouse keeper named Arthur Curry. Aquaman made his first appearance in a DC Comics publication in 1941 and remains an active comic book franchise for the Warner Bros.-owned publishing outfit. Millar and Gough have joined the top ranks of drama showrunners after being at the helm of "Smallville" since its debut in 2001. On the feature side, the duo helped craft the screenplays for 2004's "Spider-Man 2," 2003's "Shanghai Knights" and this summer's "Herbie: Fully Loaded." |
Well, it's a good thing they're going for a new actor. I'd hate to say I wouldn't be watching a series because I couldn't stand being blinded by teeth.
Plus, he was a bad actor. :) |

By the way, you posted this twice. Might want to delete the second thread.

Actually, that was the first thread.. caught in a temporal nexus which is why the thread title was incomplete.

This is a retarded idea.

Not even with James Cameron attached? |
What good would a young Bruce Wayne show do? That's like a show about a young President and his brother in high school and how they grow into... oh wait...

The should definitely get

Just call it "Waterboy".
|
I'd rather see a series based on Flash then Aquaman. Never liked Aquaman. Looser on Superfriends who always had sea life do the fighting for him. The villian just had to get him away from the water and he is done for.
Batman would be the best choice with him traveling around training. |

It seems to me Hollywood is just working their way down the superhero list. I can't imagine ENTOURAGE holds that much power. |
The fact is it will be almost impossible for any "superhero in high school" show to come off as anything but a Smallville ripoff. Combine that with a somewhat lesser character like Aquaman, plus the inevitable confusion they're inviting with the "it's an Aquaman show, but his name is not Aquaman", plus the likelihood of them ripping off The O.C. at every turn, plus centering the stories on the environment (a subject no one really cares about) = ratings disaster.

Haven't these producers ever read Twisted Mego Theater? Aquaman is the lamest of the superheroes. Wheeee, I talk to fish! And I can swim fast! Blah. Stupid idea. A Flash show would be better. And I kinda liked the one from the 80's. :)
|
"You think I even chose that name, 'Black Vulcan'? No, I originally went by Supervolt. Black Vulcan was Aquaman's idea, but I just said "Why don't we just call you Whitefish?"
|
This just sounds stupid, there is no other way of saying it. I mean Aquaman?! Potential wise I just don't see it hell i'm struggling to remember who his enemies even are outside of pesky polluting humans.
|
Wasn't this show already already done and called "Man from Atlantis"? Granted, it was not about Aquaman, but might as well be. I hope they'll find another great "talent" a-la Patrick Duffy.
|
I think it was good as a one time only thing but I dont know what they can do for an ongoing plot.
I would much rather see the WB go ahead with the abandoned Lost in Space pilot from last year. |

If you get an actor who's popular with young Females who want to see him half naked every week then add some shots of chicks in bikinis the show will work.....
|
At least have a live SuperFriends... Aquaman can't carry a season! Bring in Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Black Canary, Superboy/Man on occasion and Batman...
I can see it now... another oil spill, we need to go save the whales....uh oh, an ice jam in the great lakes has trapped a school of salmon....another Soviet Nuclear sub is stranded, I better help!! |
