With good writing, you could tell the prison break story over an entire season all the while developing the supporting characters/prisoners into more than the cardboard stereotypes they currently are. The lazy way out is to just write a bunch of "secret agenda" silliness as a story crutch. Perhaps if the outer story were even remotely interesting, I'd feel differently, but it's clearly just vague distraction. The conversation between SS guy and the VP solidified that. I had a hard time not laughing. "Once we call 'them', it's bad for all of us ... dun dun DUHN!"

It sucks, because I don't want to dislike this show. The prison break stuff has the potential to be really cool, but it looks like every week's just going to be another "Oh, they almost got caught! Whew, they narrowly escaped. Btw, look at the VP. Booga booga!"

If it makes you feel any better, I'm right there with you. Prison Break is a guilty pleasure for me as it is, but the last twenty minutes have been such a struggle the past few episodes that they're amping up the 'guilty' and pushing the 'pleasure' pretty far into the background.

I've been feeling this way for a while now. I want to like the show a lot, but it is getting harder and harder.

I am annoyed most by the Lincoln character ... we get it, you love your son!

j123vt_99 11-08-05 01:49 PM

Agree with all 5 of the posts above.. I don't really LOVE this show.. The prison stuff is ok, but compared to OZ, it has no edge.. It also starting to get predictable in its unpredictability... they lead you one way and you know it is going to end differently... i did like the twist of sending the mob guy to Canada when he should've been in KS

Gambit 11-08-05 02:20 PM

OK, but I haven't heard anyone say they are going to stop watching...

What is it that they're doing right, that even though it is difficult to get through the episodes, keeps you hooked?

I've parked believability at the door from the very first episode, so can still find it entertaining, faults and all.

I kept thinking Pulp Fiction at that point.

boogieman03 11-08-05 03:14 PM

I was thinking about that dog in Road Trip.

I don't think believability is the issue. Most of us put that aside in episode one. The problem now is that the writing for the prisoners' storylines has gotten worse and worse, and that we still don't care at all about the conspiracy storyline.

But only if they're out of Blueberries and he has to settle for buttermilk.

I still find it the most entertaining and involving show thats on right now. Guess I don't really share any of the complaints others are voicing. I might have a few nitpicks here and there but personally can't think of any major faults with the show.

Sure, I agree with you on both those points. If the show was only about the conspiracy storyline, I would probably turn it off and stop watching. And throughout, there are lots of things that stand out as being unbelievable or written for convenience to progress the storyline. But it's pretty much in line with what I'm expecting from the show, so it doesn't really bother me that much. In the end, it still provides me with some entertainment value.

I guess the question is, what is keeping you watching if it's such a struggle to make it through an episode? It seems like there must be some redeeming factor to the show.

can someone give me a semi detailed-short summary of this episode please? ..my replaytv decided that it didn't have a signal and didn't record the *@&$ing episode.

I enjoyed the show very much at the start of the season, so there is still hope that it will return to early-season level. Even if it doesn't, I want to see it all play out, even if we know how it will play out.

Also, if I can make it through 5 or 6 episodes of Invasion before stopping, I'll certainly stick around for the remaining episodes of this, since it is still miles above Invasion. :)

Lincoln used to make his son blueberry pancakes.

The vice-president has brought in a nasty new guy to take care of the lawyers and Lincoln's son.

Michael and Abruzzi manipulated Falcone into getting them back into 'the room' and got him busted for running guns and violating parole by giving him a fake address for Fibonacci.

C-Note found out about the hole and has muscled his way into the group.

That's pretty much it.

pilot 11-08-05 08:07 PM

thanks Adam :)

Jeraden

I still find it the most entertaining and involving show thats on right now.

It's one of the best dramas on the air right now and almost certainly the best new drama. That speaks less about the show than the current state of television, though.

It's bad enough they keep trying these lame fake-outs (like we really wouldn't figure out Abruzzi and Michael were working together or that the VP's helper guy wasn't the bumbling nice guy they introduced him as), but the stuff outside the prison is just stupid, and they're adding more? I wish they'd just tell a fun story of a prison break instead of all these 24-ish shenanigans. I see now, though, that's never going to happen.

Couldn't agree more. The Men-in-Black plot just keeps getting blacker.
