Loved the show tonight, it was all a setup for the Lex/Clark sceen at the end.

That was some of the best acting Tom Welling has done in the 4+ years the show has been on. I forgot I was watching a TV show as I was cheering when Clark hit him with the left as Lex was trying to get up. Clark now knows that Lex will hurt anyone to get what he wants. I say Lex really has turned to the Dark Side.

Next week Clark will be raise back by something in the FoS, just like in the comics. Chole must be the one to somehow get him up there.

Amel 10-06-05 11:33 PM

Another good ep. I too was a little dissappointed at first, until we got the finale with Clark/Lex. That scene was perfect. I liked the Clark/Lana interaction. But that crappy music at the end was killing it. The scene when Chloe hears that Pete knew Clark's secret first and saw the spaceship was lol funny.

What's with all the Lana hate?

Where was Lois? Not that I'm complaining, but I thought there was some type of contractual thing that when a person is a part of the credits they have to be in at least one scene.

animalmystic 10-06-05 11:35 PM

Decent episode, not terrible but not overly great as well.

Some -/+'s

Chloe the super hacker is a little bit tired, but I can go along with it. All the stuff in her trunk was funny.

The FotW's were a little annoying, the Twins were ok, wasn't the Wonder Twins on the old Justice League cartoon in the 80's? A guy and girl, can't remember? Each of them transformed into something different, one of them an elemet and one an animal?

Lana looks oh sooooo beautiful

Chloe looks amazing, Mmmmmmmm -other-

I liked the Lex/Clark confrontation, him showing Lex that he is indeed "human".....for now.

This shit is getting incredibly annoying, I mean how much of a beating can pa kent take, I mean jesus, I know this show is far fetched, but its to the point of annoying and very tired.

Why didn't Lana nail the shit out of that twin guy? I would have filled him full of nails? Lame.

Overall I liked the episode, the "my first time" thing was a little Dawson's Creek, but warm and cute at the same time.

I hope Clark gets his powers back sometime soon though, I don't really like this normal guy storyline. But I guess you gotta do something with the story

Interesting between Chlex in the caves, he is really getting impatient with her.

Of course I can't freaking wait till next week :)

This was just painful... nothing worked for me. I hope they get better.

Losing patience. :(

Flay 10-07-05 12:28 AM

What a great episode. The FOTW was actually bearable and the ending was perfect. I just hope Lex doesn't try to rekindle the friendship. The show will be more fun if they stay enemies.

calhoun07 10-07-05 12:42 AM

although I call bullshit that Lana was still a virgin
Same here. She's the town slut.

Lana: "Clark, I'm a virgin too!"
Clark: "What are those warts on your vagina??"

Doesn't that happen once a year on this show? Where Lex tries to uncover Clark's superpowers at the exact same time he happens to lose them? How many times does he need to be disproven?

It's just nice that everything from the season premiere wasn't undone by the end of the second episode like most seasons.

Clark hadn't wiped the floor with these guys before. He actually states he doesn't know who these guys are. But I do agree the point of the episode was to beg the question of Clark's vulnerability.

I know pwoplw hate the FotW episodes, but if he was actually battling someone of great interest in this episode, what good would that do? He's powerless, atm.

I was of the opinion that the episode was :groan: going back to FotW, but it had to. At least for one episode.

 for Chloe's twins. In that last barn scene I was angry at the DoP for not getting all the cleavage in the shot. :brickwl2:

One other thing related to content, can people discussing content not show spoiler it. Even if it is a preview for the next episode, because really it still is a spoiler. It gets really annoying as I don't watch the previews.

Terrell 10-07-05 03:20 AM

I agree, this episode was lame and I'm afraid it's going to be this way for the next few episodes before they go back to the storyline that we saw in the beginning of this season. Gawd oh why do they do this?
Because if they advanced the story every episode, the show would have only lasted 2 seasons because Clark would already be in Metropolis as Superman. When are people going to realize this. I know it's a DVD talk right of passage for people to bitch about the show, yet keep on watching. But some episodes are going to be better than others. That's just the way it is with any TV show. There are always going to be filler episodes. My advice, if every episode pisses you off that much, maybe it's time to find another show. Then again, some of you liked Buffy, the worst, stupidest show on TV. I watched 7 episodes of that before I realized it was garbage. But I gave up on it and found something else.

It's also obvious many here don't even realize the entire show was a setup by Lex, so he could watch Clark.

I thought it was an okay episode. Not good, not bad.

Chloe has a lot of junk in her trunk, and her oversize headlights are impressive as well.

Man, thankfully there are others out there that appreciate this for what it was, a step in the right direction. My biggest fear after the fantastic season opener was that they'd hit the reset button, Clark would get his powers back and the house would be rebuilt with no mention of the destructive meteor shower, or Lex and Clark being on the outs.

Instead we skip a few weeks ahead, Clark andLana are full-on in love, Lex is worse than ever, the house is still a mess, and Clark is dealing with living life sans powers.

People see the supervillains and think "FOTW - this sucks". But they served a purpose here. This wasn't some douchebag smallville kid that has the hots for lana and thusly decides to kill her for no reason. These were superpowered baddies trained by Lex for purposes unknown. AND they are being used in this episode to test Clark, not just cause random mayhem. It shows Lex as the manipulitive, behind-the-scenes strategist villain that is his strength. It shows Clark as more than the sum of his super-powered parts. It showed Chloe has grown beyond her jealous hurt girlfriend routine, and truly accepted Clark for who he is and who he loves. And it all culminated in something Clark has been yearning for since the show began. Things are good for him right now (Lex aside) and it'll be all that much more heartwrenching when he's forced to take back his powers and accept his responsibility.

I only hope the producers don't pull the tired shit of "I have powers... I can't let Lana love me" and break them up again. In the comics, they did take a long time to get together, but when they did, they were a couple until he left Smallville. The will-they/won't-they bullshit is over, find a way to write the relationship in an interesting way - we can have a lasting couple without losing drama. Besides which, Lana LEARNS HIS SECRET in the comics, that's a gold mine of material... Clark being SuperClark while struggling with keeping something from Lana, the eventual breakdown and confession, Lana dealing with it. These are things the fans want to see, and I don't know why, now that we're heading there, everyone is bitching. Just because there were superpowered baddies? You guys must not be comic fans, because that's basically what it is... A tale of relationships, lonliness, an outsider finding acceptance in his adopted home with his chosen family, all the while fighting superpowered villains.

I don't mind the baddies, I mind them when they serve no purpose except to fill an episode. That's what a FOTW episode is. Splitting Boy who wants to go to college. Kid who steals people's warmth and is a womanizer. Those are stupid, filler, FOTW episodes. Baddies who are pawns in Lex Luthor's crusade to understand EVERYTHING, especially with regard to Clark - that's story progression. And so far, this season seems more serialized than in the past, and that's the best news of all. For right now, I'm standing by the Team and saying they're doing a good job. If they jump back into the filler nonsensical childish fotw crap midseason, I'll be right there with you to badmouth the decline in quality, but for right now, don't do it just because it's in vogue to do so. Give credit where credit is due.

Which "7 epsiodes" did you watch? Buffy, like all Joss Whedon stuff, is pure genius!

Admittedly I didn't start watching the show right away, myself, even though everyone told me I should, and that I would like it. I actually didn't start watching it until FX started airing it in re-runs (before the DVD sets started coming out) - and couldn't believe I had missed out on such a great show up until then. Granted part of that was because my area didn't have a WB affiliate at the time, so we would only get WB shows aired on our UPN affliate, whenever their regular programming wasn't airing - usually after 10 pm, or on weekends.

But, to each their own, I guess. I could probably make the same kind of comment about Seinfeld - a show I never thought desereved all the hype it got - but that's just me.

Back on the actual topic of this post though - overall, I liked the show. The end scenes were worth it alone. We may only be two eps in, but so far this season is looking better than last.

Ayre 10-07-05 07:37 AM

Meh. The entire episode was like a Saturday morning kids show. I did like the confrontation between Lex and Clark. Too much comic-book-over-the-top-secret-agent crap. But it was watchable.

My thought exactly. This wasn't a developement. We've seen the same thing in the past 2 seasons.

Agreed. SOME PEOPLE DON'T WATCH THE PREVIEWS FOR NEXT WEEK!

So please spoilerize any discussion that goes beyond this week's episode. Thanks. :)

I liked this ep. I'm glad the writers didn't immediately hit the reset switch and give Clark his powers back after one episode. I think this arc is giving some much needed character development. Clark is growing a little. He and Lana finally get to spend some time together (even though I'm sure Clark will push her away once he inevitably gets his powers back), and Lex gets to continue down his dark path, manipulating behind the scenes. I think they're really doing a good job of setting him and Clark up to be enemies. Good stuff.

Chloe is looking so hot these days. I like it that she's not a stick-figure and has a little junk in the trunk. I hate the TV trend of tiny girls these days. I've always thought Allison Mack was the hottest thing on this show.

RE Lana and Jason: don't you guys remember? That was a big point of contention between them last season. Lana thought that the reason Jason broke up with her was because she wasn't ready to have sex with him yet. And since that was her most serious relationship on the show other than Clark and Whitney (who I'm sure she didn't sleep with), I had no problem believing that she was still a virgin.

theedge 10-07-05 10:13 AM

Glad it is back and on Thursday's now!

The Lex/Clark scene at the end, as mentioned many times, was great!

I was hoping to see something about the ship and Braniac this week, but its a long season! :)

I thought the Wonder Twins were gonna say, "Wonder twin powers activate" when they first touched fists. ;)

Yeah, Jan and Zan. The girl, Jan, would transform into any animal she wanted and the guy would transform into anything ice related. Pretty lame power for the guy.

I totally missed the episode last night, anybody know if its going to be reaired?

Yeah, and then they talk about having a "new start".

Then again, that happens a lot with Lana too..

ATX 10-07-05 12:54 PM

The Lex/Clark scene at the end almost made this one worth sitting through...almost!
yeah, that was the only part i liked

i had no faith that these idiotic writers would be different this year

c'mon meteor rock retarded twins ?

do we even know Lex set that up? (the video on his laptop had nothing and that dude bumped into Lex and sucked power from his cell phone? i guess)

i wish Lana would dissapear and they would concentate more on Chloe and Lois

and will the damn writers come up with something else other than meteor rock freaks and throwing people around like ragdolls every week

Here, I thought I was the only one. Lana could fall off the show and it wouldn't even phase me.

Legolas 10-07-05 03:53 PM

Speaking of Chole, why does the actress keep getting disrespected in the opening credits? First Ackles leapfrogs ahead of her, and now Durance.

Puzznic 10-07-05 04:33 PM

Good post Doc. I agree with everything you said. I can even tolerate the occasional pointless FOTW episode as long as its entertaining. In fact, i prefer FOTW over padding out the show with stupid story arcs like the Lana/Jason relationship and the witch.

Buffy = Greatest TV Show of All Time (also, Voted #1 Greatest TV Series of all time on TVGuide's massive online poll for the "Top 50 Greatest TV Shows of all time). A TV Masterpiece by Joss Whedon.

Smallville = Pretty good, fun escapist entertainment with a lot of flaws.

Buffy dared to be great and was. Smallville had the chance, but the writers never took one.

Smallville has always been a Buffy ripoff anyway. It's just nowhere near the same level as Buffy was. It just can't compare.

Had Joss Whedon made Smallville it would be a far greater series.

Back on topic. This was a decent FOTW episode. The end with Clark & Lex was great.

Joss would have never made Smallville because he's all wrong for it. What in his past work makes you think otherwise? Joss is all about heroic women and male anti-heroes.
