It's no early West Wing, but I enjoyed it.
It's certainly stretching the bounds of "political reality" in a lot of ways, and from what I've read: it'll only get worse in that regard.
But, this is the "level" of politics that interests me (meaning much more than the speech-writing level of West Wing), so I'm more inclined to keep going.

Trying to be West Wing with a female lead. Gave it half an hour. And that's all it will get from me. Not my cup of tea, I'll find something else to watch in its place.

but I think he brought it with so he could be sworn in on it.Anyway, I agree it's no West Wing but it wasn't awful like most of the new hour longs have been rhis season.

I had no intention of watching this show when I first heard about it but then I learned Rod Lurie was involved so I was interested and then I read in tvguide that the Pres asked her to resign ans she says NO WAY BROTHER so I decided to give it a chance. Wasnt as good as I thought it could be, but not atrocious. There is alot of possiblility for growth. TWW comparisons are impossible to avoid however.
Alot of people said the plot was improbable. I would have preferred they hire an actor that looks just like the Pres. and not tell anyone, not even the VP, and hijinks ensue.

Normally, political dramas aren't my thing, but I decided to give this a shot since Davis's character was the Chancellor of my alma mater (Univ. of Richmond) and some scenes were filmed on campus. Gotta support the Spiders. It was kind of neat to see the school's crest on the glassware. This was the biggest national non-sports TV exposure for my school since an episode of "Dawson's Creek" was filmed there. Anyway, the show was just okay and I don't need to elaborate on the criticisms others have already posted about. I may give it another shot. Or I may not. Is it wrong that I was rooting for Donald Sutherland's character?
Finally - someone else from UR on these boards. I've been waiting years for that to happen. I was back on campus last week for the career fair. Ah, nostalgia. And let me just say that I hope Dr. Cooper's tenure as President doesn't last too much longer.

I thought it was good. I'll keep watching for now. I noticed that Leslie Hope is back working with Rod Lurie again after the disappointment of "Line of Fire."

I agree, Line of Fire had so much potential and a great cast.. But, ABC had no patience with it and canned it way too soon. However, I am glad that they gave Rod Lurie another shot. I hope this show works out.
Anyone hear that Geena Davis was actually the 3rd choice to play the Prez? The part was actually written for Joan Allen, who turned it down. Later it was offered to Sigourney Weaver, who also turned it down.

From: Bartertown due to it having a better economy than where I really live.
I kept waiting for her to respond with this "then why the fuck did he pick me to be VP?" every time someone said the dead president never wanted her to become president

From Drudge:
I know a common criticism I've read about the first episode was that Sutherland's character seems one dimensional. If this is how he approaches his character, then I don't see that improving too much.
'COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF' SUTHERLAND: BUSH WILL DESTROY OUR LIVES
Choking back tears, COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF star Donald Sutherland warned this week: President Bush "will destroy our lives!"
The star of the new ABC drama, which follows the first woman President of the United States, lashed out at the real White House during a dramatic sit down interview with the BBC.
Sutherland ripped Bush and his administration for the war and Hurricane Katrina fallout.
"They were inept. The were inadequate to the task, and they lied," Sutherland charged.
"And they were insulting, and they were vindictive. And they were heartless. They did not care. They do not care. They do not care about Iraqi people. They do not care about the families of dead soldiers. They only care about profit."
At one point during the session, Sutherland started crying: "We stolen our children's future... We have children. We have children. How dare we take their legacy from them. How dare we. It's shameful. What we are doing to our world."
Sutherland went on rip Karl Rove's "methods and means" against people like Cindy Sheehan.
"We're back to burning books in Germany," Sutherland said of NBC's editing out of Kanye West's comment on Bush during a hurricane relief telethon.

Finally got around to this one. This is the definition of a paint-by-numbers drama. Putting aside that half the cast of Line of Fire was in this, it has the same cheap emotional gimmicks too. Ooooh ... will the daughter show up for the speech? How long before the closing musical montages start? Certainly not a terrible show, just completely and decidedly average.

I thought this was one of the better Dramas of the new season. Much better than all the medical CSI Duplicates and Lost retreads.
