I'm not sure whether commentary is welcome in this thread or not, so I'm going to venture into the waters somebody else tested with one stray comment with this response to the selection of Seinfeld season 5. I'm really rather surprised that the second Seinfeld season choice was 5 instead of one of the later seasons. In particular, I imagined that season 7 would be the second choice. In part, this is because the show's tone changed in a subtle but real way. I also think season 7, while not as strong as a unit as some of the earlier seasons, contains some of the showier episodes of the series.

It is darn hard to be critical of any season chosen other than perhaps season 1, of course.

Pretty much. Once we have 32 players, each round will start at 9am Pacific time, and go for 24 hours (excluding weekends).

Also, I have added a list of ineligible shows as requested.

Dammit, when this was announced and there was discussion of the rules, I wasn't interested, but now that it's started I'm all excited about it. I don't know if I should come up with future picks or not. I guess I'll be thinking about it regardless, but not knowing what other people will pick makes it kind of hard to think about the other picks. I'm glad Groucho decided to go with choosing seasons.

Okay, I'll throw in a pick (I didn't see anyone else choose this): Sunday will be Twin Peaks, Season 1 (including pilot).

No kidding. The top two on my board for the second round were just taken in the last two picks (Sopranos1 and Twin Peaks1). I've still got a few under my hat, but I feel like when we get to Saturday I may end up having to choose between Dharma & Greg and According to Jim.

Hell, I was surprised it wasn't already taken. But I've got some good tricks up my sleeve for the coming days.

We currently have only 19 players, so the likelyhood of starting round two at 9am this morning is slim.

Huh? We're not going to wait around for others are we? This will take forever if we do. We won't get 32 people, and the longer we wait, the more we'll have people not making their regular picks and screwing up the game.

Yep. Wait until we have an even number of players and then move on to round 2. We may never reach 32 players.

Or we could just have first come, first serve 1st round choice B for those of the existing players to round it out to 32.

Sorta like my first choice would be CBS and my second would be UPN.

Perhaps it's time for das Monkey to take the same advice he just gave in the DVD draft thread...

That said, I might just go ahead and start round 2. I just hope we don't end up with a bazillion byes in the first round like with the last game.

I misunderstood. I thought the first thread was the gathering of a "full field" and 32 was the cap, not waiting for 32 players to vote in the first round.

My thinking is that if we start with 19 people, there's still plenty of time to fill up to 32. Alternately, if people start dropping out we can play with 16 players.

Instead of having byes, consider them play-in games

I don't think any votes would be valid until Groucho announces that round 2 has begun.

If round 2 has begun, and those votes are valid, I'm not sure if I want to continue.

The rules need to be clear if this is going to work.
