Rome - "Stealing From Saturn" - 9/18

Spoiler:
As Pompey "maneuvers" outside the city, Caesar seeks to consolidate his hold on Rome. Atia throws a party to welcome Caesar home, while Vorenus throws one of his own to usher in his new life as a citizen businessman. Pullo's run of luck continues when he delivers Quintus Pompey to Caesar, who in turn returns Quintus to his father's camp--with an offer of truce he knows Pompey will never accept.

Did they have to show Antony's package? Also, the whole bit with Octavian being ordered to scarf testicles was Whoever writes this show has too much of an obsession with male sex organs.

Not sure, but I think we saw at least 1 penis per episode. I don't want to sound like Art, but it's refreshing to see the penises giving their female counterparts a run for their money! (At least for American TV )

Pullo is my new hero; every time he's on screen there's :

a) violent lovemaking
b) gambling and/or drinking
c) someone dying by his hands
d) Some wise advice on the meaning of life

The kind of guy you want on your side but have a hard time controlling

Did you guys notice the cook (or maid) kinda raising her eyebrows when she saw Octavian and Caesar leave the shack after Caesar's epilectic seizure?

I just found it sorta cheap that this incident would start a "Caesar is a pedophile/bisexual" thing

Did Caesar really suffer from epileptic seizures? Man, this show makes me want to research my history regarding Rome (And wishing I listened more during Latin class at private school; I only paid attention to the Gladiator parts...)

My initial thought was "Isn't Caeasar's slave (or advisor) with the notepad (the one who put the stick in Caesar's mouth) coming out at the same time??

Anyway, we'll see

Great episode this week. Quite a few controversial secrets brewing. I can see what critics meant when they said that in the fourth episode, things start to take shape.

Yes, Julius Caesar really did have epilepsy ("defectio epileptica" - is your Latin coming back now?)

(Interestingly, Alexander the Great and Napoleon Bonaparte also had it too, so having epilepsy and conquering large sections of the world seem to go together.)

I really dug last night's episode. So much so that I watched it again at 11:00 on HBO2.

I loved when Lucius was about to be roughed up by Pompei's men about the gold and Titus comes rolling down the street partying.

Didn't even think about the pedophilia angle; I didn't realize that Caesar was 'known' for that.

Pretty good episode.

Titus coming up on Lucious right while Pompey was there was pretty funny.

I liked the breakfast scene as well. It reminded me of parents trying to get kids to eat their vegetables, but instead this time it was pig testicles

I really liked the episode, except for the Niobe subplot. I think it's boring, she's a despicable character, and I think the actress playing her is untalented and not nearly as attractive as most everyone else seems to think. The scene with Gaius and Octavian was fantastic.

Octavian gives me the creeps. I bet he sees dead people.

Just watched this. Slower than some, but I still liked it. Had a bit of a Godfather-like vibe to it (Just when I thought I was out...).
I know I don't speak for everyone, but overall, I'm enjoying this series more than I thought I would. Still don't think HBO has a replacement for Sopranos or 6FU, but this show and Deadwood certainly provide some hope, anyway.

It's kinda funny because I didn't think of the pedafile thing at first but when they showed the door closed and the cook woman listening from outside it definitely sounded as if there was some sodomy taking place then when she did the eyebrow raise I knew that's what she was thinking.

Titus is easily the best character on this show, I wonder what he's got in mind for Niobe, I doubt his loyalty to Lucious will be clouded by her, but then again she's already shamed herself by bearing another man's child so maybe some happy endings are in store for our buddy Titus

I am loving this, all the intrigue, attia is amazing, I'm putting her down for golden globe or emmy, niobe is indeed hot.

Octavian is a great character, I am liking him, and attia would do well to realise her son is smart, so gaius is her brother in law yes? and she's all over him.,

I loved how the 2 parties were going on at the same time, and Titus is badass, he's tom sizemore in rome!

How is Niobe despicable?

And anyone who finds Niobe hot would be well advised to seek out "Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love," which costars Naveen Andrews (Sayid on "Lost"). Good movie, and she's naked a lot.

Are you talking about Caesar & Atia? If so he's her uncle.

If you go to http://www.hbo.com/rome/cast/ you can click on the characters name and towards the bottom it will you tell you what relationships there are between characters.

I started watching this show from the second episode on but my cable company started doing a promotion recently for the Movie Network (Canada's version of HBO) and they sent me a DVD with Rome's first episode.

I was confused then when they sent Octavian to his uncle, so its his great-uncle then but still yikes, thats worse than wanting to get with her brotherinlaw

Does she want to bang him, or just keep her (and therefore her son) in his favor?

I think she's this shows Livia (which would be funny because Octavian marries a woman just like his mom). If Caesar falls back in love with Brutus' mom, he would favor brutus as his sucessor...she wants her daughter available for a politically expediant marriage, and her son available for the throne.
