It's one thing to sleep with someone if you've been told your husband is dead. It's quite another to have an affair with a man married to your own sister.

Regarding Caesar and Octavius in the pantry, next week's episode preview
Spoiler:
showed, I think, Octavius' mother congratulating him on seducing Caesar. You're the best mom ever!

I assumed that that Niobe slept with the guy and he later married her sister in a deal made by all 3 parties. But if she just slept with her sister's husband, that'd be pretty despicable.

In our culture--not sure where it would rate if it were a totally political marriage in ancient Rome.

I didn't think that her sister and that guy were really married. I think it was just a deal they made to act like it. That is why the sister was freaking (roman style) that other dude at the party. I might be wrong though, I suppose the deal could have involved a real marraige, but that doesn't seem smart if she wants him to never come back and be out of her life.

Adultry was very frowned upon (especially among the Plebes), but like today, that did not stop it.

I don't know how communications worked in ancient Rome, but I find it strange that Niobi wouldn't know for years if her husband is alive or dead, yet some messages get to the city from halfway across the empire at DSL speed (Caesar in Italy, the missing gold not going to Caesar yet, etc).

I thought she told him the pay stopped coming and the quatermaster/whatever said there was no way it could be a mistake, so she assumed he was dead.

I'm really enjoying this show. I actually winced when Niobi's sister knocked over the statue of Janus, thinking "well, that's not good."

And Titus rules - funny, good-hearted and a cold-stone killer. I want to see more action, dammit!
