Wow. What a depressing episode. Kenny looks to be getting ripped off. Tommy lost his son and his family ended up not getting the inheritance they expected. And then the chief's wife. Wow. I still can't believe everything that happened.

I have to say also that Rescue Me always has such great music to accompany these powerful scenes. I wouldn't mind seeing a Rescue Me Official Soundtrack come out.

Wow, what a powerful episode. Even though I knew what was coming at the end (thanks, promo dept.!) it still didn't diminish the emotional impact. I, too, cringed when Sheila was beaten.

I too think Kenny's gonna get ripped off
I've gotten the feeling her clients call her directly, which would mean no pimp. plus aren't pimps more for the low class street walkers?

My dvr did the same thing, luckily I was watching the show when it aired but I was doing something else so I was going to rely on the DVR for when I could give the show my undivided attention. It seems like you can expect the last five minutes of this show to be completely depressing or emotional. Tommy is going to hit rock bottom hard.

Yeah, I think she just had to strike out at somebody with all the grief she was experiencing. It's not Tommy's fault, but some part of her probably was thinking that if he hadn't bought the bike. . .

Any lesbian groups protesting the show's portrayal of a lesbian as a domestic abuser? Like the people who protested Basic Instinct on the basis that they didn't personally know of any lesbian who was a serial killer.

Now that Tommy's son is dead maybe he'll finally get some screen time!

That's is what I am NOT looking forward to, yet another dead person Tommy sees and talks to. IMHO I think I would enjoy this show even more without that aspect of the show. I imagine I am in the minority and that most people feel it gives the show more depth and originality.

I am surprised at all the praise for this week's show. I love Rescue Me, but this episode shouldn't have been called Happy; it should have been called Cliche. Criminy, every storyline, I thought, surely this show is smart enough to not go in the obvious direction and then...zip...there it went, right toward the obvious end. Are the writers just getting lazy here or what? Now let's throw in some comedy and have this incredibly implausible scenario where Sean ends up with one hand in his pants and the other grabbing Probie's junk. Oh won't everyone just laugh?

Now let's have Sheila get the snot beat out of her. Powerful? I thought it was just dumb. I mean, what is the purpose of her character? What is the point?

And then whore has bruises from F-bomb and the guy gives her all his money to set her free. Didn't see that coming. Gee, wonder if she is going to stiff him.

The only thing that surprised me was that they actually
Spoiler:
killed the son. I admit I didn't see that coming. But then she slaps Tommy, and they bring it right back to cliche-ville again.

I sure hope next week is better. I know I sound really harsh. I guess it's because I like this show so much that I really expect much better than this. Just sloppy and tired, IMO.

I do agree that the storylines are a little cliche, but after I thought about it for a little while, I'm still enjoying the show, possibly because of this approach.

Take tonight's episode, for example. Sure, it was pretty easy to predict that Tommy's father's dead wife (I've only seen the last 6 or so episodes of the show, so I'm not up on all the names, yet) was going to leave the majority of the money to the cats, but it seems that a large part of Rescue Me involves putting these characters, the majority of which are either bordering on losing it (Tommy, the chief), have already lost it (Sheila, the chief's wife), or are just plain idiots (Shawn, Franco, Probie) into one stressful situation after another and seeing how they react. Sure, we may have seen similar situations in other shows, but I'm enjoying seeing how the different characters react to what looks to be one horrible event after another, and exactly how much pressure they can take before cracking completely.

I'm not thrilled about the fact that they completely ignored Tommy seriously injuring a cop at that hockey game, though...

I started watching with the second season premiere and I think I'm siding with Boot on this show. I'm all for mixing drama and comedy in a show, all of my favorite shows do it to some extent, but to start a show with homoerotic humor in the locker room then finish with the death of a child seems almost too out of wack for me. The cats in the will thing was obvious, we all think we know what's happening with the hooker. The only thing that really caught me by surprise was the abusive relationship- which could lead to somewhere interesting except for the fact that she's cut off relationshipwise to everyone else on the show. Also, the dead people/Jesus thing just gets in the way, and is becoming too cliche that it seems to used on every show now.

I'll stick around to see how the season ends. There's been some funny stuff, and some touching dramatic stuff, but I'm not as impressed overall as so many people seem to be with this show.

Wow, that episode was fucking horrible compared to the rest of the season. It reminded me of those 2 terrible episodes of Nip/Tuck last season. Everything was completely off. Near the beginning there was a couple good laughs, but besides that the comedy was missing. The acting on this episode reached an especially huge low this week. Who the fuck cast the sister? I can't remember the last time I saw acting as bad as that first scene between her and her dad. I felt like I was watching a soap opera.

What's worst, though, is I think every episode this season has had a dramatic scene that worked better than any of the dramatic scenes in this episode. I did like the final minutes, but they still weren't as powerful as the endings the rest of the season have been. Although I might have felt the end was comparable to previous episodes if FX hadn't spoiled it over and over again. I avoid commercials and previews, but I still couldn't help seeing that part of the commercial.

I don't even really care how cliche the storylines are. It does annoy me that I could see the inheritance thing right away and that the pimp storyline seems to be going the same way. But it doesn't matter how many times these stories have been told before, it's just that they were so poorly executed this time. Man, I can't remember the last time I was so angry at an hour of TV. I know I shouldn't be, but every other episode this season has been amazing and then they pull this shit on the second to last episode!

Powerful episode this week -- I liked it. Amidst all the drama with Tommy and Chief Reilly, there were still a couple of good laughs.

Great episode. Did anyone else get the feeling that Tommy's sister was channeling Drea De Mateo for her role?

Yeah, it was cliche. That didn't change it from being a pretty powerful end to the episode.

Man, I had to rewind my tivo to the moment where the kid is actually hit, before the end montage was even over and even though the first time through it was clear the guy was a drunk, the fact that when he got out, he looked at connor, then casually got back in the car after eyeballing Tommy was even more disturbing. plus I didn't catch the first time that as Tommy watches him get in his car, the pov camera shot lags down onto the liscense plate which we get a clear look at, before I even saw the previews, I'm thinking, "Oh shit, Tommy's gonna kill this guy."

And while I really dug the ep, I'm very dissapointed in the Lou storyline. I was so into it when he was hiring the hooker to get back to nailing the semi-widow, and then when he told her off and got with the hooker I was even more into it. It was a fresh take on a new story and I just bought it, it seemed like this chick was into him and I thought "good for Lou." Now they're taking the cliche route by having her scam him, it would seem, and I just feel like I've seen this. The backstabbing manipulitive whore.... she's a call girl right? Of course she'd con him, she's an unredeemable whore... no thanks, I've seen it. This prostitute who does what she does to make money but actually cares for this guy, and the difficulty in their relationship is him coping with her running off to have sex for money - that's the story I wanted to see and was intrigued by. I'm hoping Leary and Tolin are messing with us. I'm hoping they'll shock the shit out of us, have lou buy her out and they're tegether for a while next season, something other than the horribly cliched "Lou got played" routine, just so we can have every character in some horrible pit of dispair for next season.... so not cool. I'd even be fine with the hooker ending up dead by this supposed F-Bomb. she tries to pay him out, he won't let her go, kills her. even that's better than "Guess what, the prostitute pretended to love me and conned me out of 23 grand..." Here's to hoping, but I think we all know better. It's ashame... this season other than this storyline has been flawless, IMHO.

Yeah, sure there are some cliche things this season but honestly, I LOVE this show so much, a freaking UFO full of alien beavers could abduct one of the cast and I would still find that acceptable storywise.

I love this show.

I'm thinking there is no F-Bomb at all and she bruised her own arm.
