Reality TV is Getting Out of Hand

I hate reality TV, it's TV trash at it's most dreadful. Why the hell is it so undeservedly popular?

Do any of you think that reality TV should be buried and forgotten?

No. I mostly prefer scripted TV, but it's not all bad. I'm really enjoying Rockstar INXS right now.

Just to get these responses out of the way:

1) You don't have to watch it.

2) There are plenty of crappy scripted shows as well.

I love Survivor. As a matter of fact I'm watching the Survivor Australia marathon on OLN right now. God I love Elisabeth. Still no Survivor hottie can touch her IMO.

I could do without all other reality TV though.

I wanna know when Fear Factor will stop making those people eat brains. Aren't they afraid of Mad Cow?

I think it is way too simplistic to make a blanket statement about how awful reality TV is. There are some great reality shows that have just as much drama or comedy as scripted shows. It would be very easy for me to make a blanket statement at how awful every sitcom is, but despite the fact that it may be true for most of them, it would still be doing a disservice to the great ones that are on the air.

Pretty much what I was going to say, well put.

What's remarkable is that although the original poster hates reality television, he's taken the time to watch each and every episode of each and every reality television show.

I love Survivor, but other than that the only reality show i watch would be Hogan Knows Best. I don't bother with all the other reality tv.

What I'd really like to know is what the fuck do you want on the air instead? There's more scripted dramas on TV now than there have ever been before. Are you reality haters really missing reruns and sitcoms that much? IMO, there's more great scripted comedy on tv now than there ever has been before too, but I know I'm probably in the minority in that regard.

Harsh, but true. There's what now, about 5 or 600 channles of programming available on one cable/satellite package or another? What about the hundreds of home imporovement shows? Hundreds of news based shows?

To the OP: Proportionally, there really aren't that many reality shows. And many are quality, many are not. I would recommend not watching the latter...or neither if it is your preference. There are literally thousands of other programs to choose from.

reality tv covers so many different shows I definitely can't make that blanket statement. Techincally 30 Days (which was pretty good overall despite some less than stellar episodes) could be considered "reality". Plus, Rockstar INXS is one of my favorite shows of the summer.

My biggest problem with Reality tv is all the scripted and planned "reality" tv out there.

I don't like any of it, so I don't watch any of it. Other than the home improvement type shows, the rest have zero to do with reality anyway. That being said, the day a reality show takes the place of Arrested Development or Scrubs is the day I promote the blanket statement that they all are shit and need to go.

That is exactly what I hate about some of those "reality" tv shows. Its about as bad as those fakes on America's Funniest Home videos where a guy is being filmed cutting down a tree for some reason and it falls on an old car that just happened to be parked nearby. That sucks.

But I do love Survivor and a few others. So just like any genre, there are good shows and bad shows.

All reality TV doesn't have to suck. But as with everything else on network TV, something that worked once is beaten to death with every variation possible. I think the fact that there are only a couple of reality shows on the fall schedule means the reality trend is fizzling. Now it's on to the Lost/Desparate Housewives clones until everyone is sick to death of that.

On a side note, is that horrid, screaming brat, nanny show the only reality show in HD?

I watched Survivor Outback just to see what all the fuss was about and yes Elizabeth is about as hot as it gets, other than that I haven't seen a full season but i agree with the fact that the Scripted reality shows are ruining everything about reality TV, give me more quality shows like

Lost
the Sopranos
Deadwood
Battlestar Galactica
The O.C. (lol yeah I watch it you got a problem with that )
Desperate Housewives
Alias
...........and the list goes on

the thing I don't understand is how with all the thousands of show Ideas the networks get every year so much reality TV is still made and how in the hell out of the rest of the times slots left available so many really shitty shows get made?

All I know is that reality tv had better not come to an end before I get at least one full season of TINY HOUSE.
