When I ordered mine they just asked if I had permission, the installer didn't ask to see a letter or anything.

Though I had permissoin and the signed satellite addendum to my lease. I just had to modify my renters insurance to cover it was the only requirement.

We had dish for almost a year, and liked them. Went out 3x, twice when we lost power, and once it was off and on for about an hour during a bad storm.
Cable now, because Dish said they couldn't get a signal without cutting down trees.

I think we get virtually every channel except for Cinemax and the other movie channel tier. Of course, there's still crap-all to watch on most of those channels.
We have a discounted 'special limited time rate', and it would actually cost us more to drop some channels and go a la carte with TWC's offerings.

I used to pay $71 per month (TWC in Manhattan) for digital cable for 2 sets. No additional channels, and they wanted an extra $10 a month for HD channels. I face west but have a 20+ story building just south of me, so a dish is not an option. So I dumped TWC in March and got a small indoor antenna and now get perfect HD reception for the 8 local channels and have saved several hundred dollars already. The only thing I really miss is ESPN and I just use my laptop to get my sports scores now.

Here is my question. If I switch to directTv where do i get my internet? Do I have to stick with Comcast internet? If I have do that then it would be to expensive to make it work. I live in portland.

I have extended-basic cable with Cebridge Connections (The absolute worst cable company on the face of the earth). My monthly statement is right around $58.00 per month. The only premium I subscribe to is HBO, which is an extra $10.95.

Looks like I'll be going with Direct TV. My fucking cable has been going out EVERY NIGHT for the past 2 months between 10pm - 10am. Im fed up and tired of this shit as they cant fix it.

Quick question, do you still need several boxes for a satellite? I recall that you could get one for the room and all the TVs will be hooked up, but all the TVs have to watch the same station. DOes that mean I have to buy extra boxes and pay extra monthly?

By any chance, are your broadcast stations on channele 13 or higher? If so, you can pick up a good, relateively small, UHF antenna for ~ $22 or so, will give you a much, much better signal than rabbit ears. Either mount it on your roof (mine is on my roof), or even if you put it behind the TV, it will still be better. Mine is ~ 2 feet high by 1 foot wide.

Anyway, as for what I spend, I pay ~ $35 / month for one of the DirecTV Para Todos packages. Has more than enough channels in both English and Spanish.

Yes, with direct TV you need the dual LNB satellite and or multi switches (depending on how many TVs) and each TV needs it's own box. $5 a month for each extra TV.
