Interestly, it doesn't affect his acting style all that much.

In rolls Ron Moore who just came off of Star Trek and they hand this newbie a job that Richard Hatch had lobbied for for a long time. It's not hard to put yourself into Hatch's shoes and understand why it was hard for him to get over that. And there are still some people who got involved in the campaign to bring the original back that are still bitter over what happened and refuse to support the new show.

That's their perogative, I suppose. But Ron Moore was passionate about the series as well, and I can unequivocably say that his verison is superior to what Rick Hatch would have created. The series needed a reimagining, not a continuation. They did a continuation in 1980. It sucked.

The problems in the original Galactica were evident from the movie. Here they had this incredible premise -- we are the descendents of a much larger humanity, their entire civilization has been wiped out in an instant by a surprise nuclear genocide, and now they're trying to survive to find us -- and then they go to a fucking casino planet. What?

they went there to get fuel
originally it was supposed to be a series of movies, but the studio decided to make it a tv series so they had to rush out episodes one after another which is why most of the originals are remakes of other tv shows and movies

I agree. Ron Moore's vision was revolutionary. I had no idea what Hatch was planning (the trailer he made for the convention to show what he had in mind will never be seen again), but I doubt it even rose to the level of what Moore was doing. And it's clear that Hatch was able to see that what Ron Moore brought to the table was better, but I am sure he had difficulty in understanding that before he saw what Ron Moore brought.

Uh...where do you have evidence to support this? If that happens, that would be one of the ultimate swerves in TV history.

(BTW, I don't think Dirk Benedict's outspoke criticism of the new show is an issue anymore, given that he appeared briefly with Katee Sackhoff in one of the short documentaries promoting the new BG show. He even made a pass at her, suggesting they have a little Starbuck on Starbuck action on the side, which is him behaving pretty much in line with the Old Starbuck rogue pilot character.)
I read even after their little documentary thingy at "Starbucks" he continues to bad mouth the show and she was quoted as saying she was very disappointed since they seemed to hit it off during the filming of it.
Imagine how he will react when the A-team movie is done.

Dirk was very supportive of the new series on the DVD documentary...they just haven't offered him a part on the show yet, which is probably why he seems a bit bitter. I keep hoping he'll show up as Starbuck's father - He'd be a great addition to the cast.

I think it's more likely Boomer will shoot Zarek's buddy...I don't think they want to get rid of Richard Hatch's character this early in the series run.

If there's one thing I wish they could've done it's: having the episode end with Adama not making up his mind. Then have much of the next episode take place on and around Kobol. Cylons (including a Base Star) show up eventually and start picking off ships. When all seems lost, the whole fleet shows up guns ablazing.

spoilerized because some people don't watch the previews for next week:
Spoiler:

I think this is likely. Although I'm not liking this recent trend of "next week, it looks like Boomer will really betray everyone, but when you watch the show, she actually saves everyone!". Hope next week's ep is the end of that.

True, Zarek is too good a character to kill now. (And all of the Old BG fans will be up in arms if they kill Old Apollo. It'll be symbolically killing off their beloved old show!)

I agree that there is no way Zarek will die but I do think he will start to believe in the president's prophecy and when it comes down to do or die he will try to stop his buddy from killing Lee Adama but he will be too late and Boomer will step in and take him out instead, thus solidifying Boomers trust and making a now believing Zarek look like a conspirator.

(also when galactica finds them the president and the commander will engage in a heavy petting old people make out session) just a theory

In Moore's podcast, he reveals:
Spoiler:
This will be the wrap-up to the continuing plots from Season 1. From here, it goes in different directions. Many more self-contained stories without the week-to-week stuff.
